Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Taiwan: Prices in TWD, Flights and Visa

Taiwan dollar figures use a market rate of about NT$31.8 to the US dollar on 7 October (the European Central Bank does not publish one) and move every day. We bill in US dollars or euros, never in Taiwan dollars.

Three prices cover the trek: US$1,399, US$2,499 and US$4,999 a head for one to four people (Budget, Standard, Luxury), which converts to about NT$44,500, NT$79,500 and NT$159,000. They do not rise in 2027. A Taipei return, the visa, insurance and tips lift the bill to NT$95,400 to NT$121,400 on Budget, NT$125,000 to NT$147,300 for a solo Standard trekker and NT$208,300 to NT$232,600 on Luxury.

We are a licensed Nepali company, every guest walks with a licensed guide, and we arrange the permits. You come in on a tourist visa. Before you pay a deposit, check in writing that your policy covers trekking in Nepal up to the altitude you plan, including helicopter rescue.

Taipei to Kathmandu, fare by fare

The search: one adult in economy with a cabin bag and a checked bag, leaving Sunday 25 October 2026 and flying home on Wednesday 11 November, a single ticket with no self-transfer, and at most one change of plane in each direction.

A search for nonstop flights only returned nothing from Taipei Taoyuan (TPE). With one change each way there were 15 itineraries from NT$32,511 to NT$46,731, and 14 of the 15 outbounds go through Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific, and one goes through Guangzhou on China Southern.

Two itineraries tie at NT$32,511. Both fly Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong out and China Southern through Guangzhou home. The first leaves Taipei at 08:20 and reaches Kathmandu at 21:30 the same day, about 15 hours 25 minutes. The second leaves at 19:40 and waits in Hong Kong until the next evening, arriving at 21:30 on 26 October. The way home is the slow part: Kathmandu 23:30, Guangzhou 05:55, Taipei 14:15 on 12 November, about 12 hours 30 minutes. Cathay out and Thai Airways home through Bangkok, leaving Kathmandu at 00:25 and landing in Taipei at 12:40 the same day, started at NT$35,277.

The shortest journey in the batch, about 20 hours 25 minutes in all, is NT$45,266: CX495 at 13:20, in at 21:30, then Thai Airways home through Bangkok. The dearest, NT$46,731, is Cathay Pacific both ways through Hong Kong. All 15 included a cabin bag, a personal item and a checked bag.

The all-in table in Taiwan dollars

Read each row as one person's trip. Flights span the lowest to the highest fare in my searches. Extras bundle a 30-day visa, insurance and tips with, depending on the tier, meals on the trail or pocket money. No tier includes Kathmandu hotels; our family homestay is US$15 per person for a night, about NT$480.

On Budget you buy food on the trail, US$25 to US$40 a day, roughly US$300 to US$480 in total. Standard and Luxury have it covered. For showers, charging and snacks, those two tiers need 20,000 to 30,000 rupees (US$130 to US$195), which you take from a machine in Kathmandu. Tips, per day of the trek: US$15 to US$20 for your guide and US$10 to US$15 for a porter.

Visa for a Taiwan passport

Taiwan passports are not on Nepal's free list or its exempt list, so you take the visa on arrival: US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days (about NT$1,590) or US$125 for 90 days. You can complete the form online first and show the receipt at the desk. Taiwan is not among the twelve countries that must apply before they travel. Insurance

Taiwan's national health insurance is built around care at home. Take a travel policy that fits a high trek. Trekking up to 6,000 m must be written into the wording, and it should pay for helicopter evacuation, which costs US$3,000 to US$5,000 (about NT$95,400 to NT$159,000) if you pay, and cover illness as well as accidents. The tiers

Pick the tier by asking how much of the trek you want to organise yourself. Budget leaves the bag, the meals and the room-sharing to you and flies you to Lukla by fixed-wing plane. Standard handles the meals and gives you a private room and a shared porter; if you are alone the guide carries up to 10 kg because there is no porter to share. Luxury hands the whole thing over: a dedicated porter, a deluxe private room with a bathroom, fruit, nuts, unlimited soft drinks, and a helicopter to and from Lukla. The guide, the three permits (NPR 3,000, 3,000 and 2,000), transfers to and from the airport, and a borrowed down jacket and minus 15 sleeping bag are the same in each. Private or group, the price per person is the same. Headcount picks the band.

From Yushan to Gorak Shep

Yushan, Taiwan's highest mountain, is 3,952 m according to Yushan National Park. If you have climbed it, you know what thin air at that height feels like, and Gorak Shep, the highest night on this trek, is about 1,200 m higher, at 5,164 m. Kala Patthar is 5,545 m. Holidays and clocks

Taiwan's Retrocession Day on 25 October is now a public holiday, and in 2026 it falls on a Sunday, so the government calendar gives Monday 26 October off. There is no other government holiday from 27 October to 11 November. The 2027 calendar has Lunar New Year days off from Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February, Tomb Sweeping and Children's Day days off from Sunday 4 to Tuesday 6 April, and Labour Day on Saturday 1 May. Private employers follow the Labor Standards Act and may differ, so check with yours. Nepal is 2 hours 15 minutes behind Taiwan all year.

In Nepal, Dashain (17 to 23 October 2026) and Tihar (8 to 12 November) close government offices, and permits take 48 hours of government working days. When the planes are crowded, Lukla flights leave from Manthali, four to five hours from Kathmandu by road, with a pick-up between midnight and 2 am. Luxury guests fly from Kathmandu by helicopter.

Paying

You pay 10 per cent to book and the rest in Kathmandu, in US dollars or euros, in cash at face value or by card with a 3.5 per cent surcharge. Taiwan dollars are not accepted. If your plans change, you can reschedule without a fee to any date inside the next year, provided you tell us 72 hours ahead (seven days for Tibet, Kailash and restricted areas). If you cancel instead, the deposit and anything else you have paid are not refunded. If we cancel, you get back what you paid, less taxes, bank and card charges and permit and flight money already spent.
