Most visitors fly to Jomsom and reach Muktinath in a morning. This six-day tour goes by road, which lets you stop at the temples on the way, soak in the hot springs at Tatopani and climb gradually enough for most pilgrims to arrive comfortably.
You drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara with a stop at Manakamana, then travel by private 4WD up the Kali Gandaki valley to Tatopani, Jomsom and the Muktinath temple, with a licensed guide throughout. The road beyond Beni is rough, and we tell you that now, not on the morning of day 2.

Fixed departures are dates we have already committed to run. Your party still treks as its own private group with its own guide; we never merge bookings or add strangers, and solo trekkers are welcome on any date. Private departures on any other date you choose are also available. On both, the per-person price is set by the size of your own party.

The road: beyond Beni the road is rough and unsealed. We use high-clearance 4WD jeeps. Monsoon rain can close sections, and we check the road before every departure.
Season: Mustang is in the rain shadow of the Annapurnas, so it is drier than the rest of Nepal in July and August. Nights are cold from November to March.
Food: tell us if you are vegetarian or eat no egg. We tell every lodge.

The road beyond Beni is unsealed and monsoon rain can damage or close sections. We check its state before every departure. If it is not safe, we tell you before you pay and offer a date when it is open, or the flight version of the tour.
The temple is at about 3,800 m. You sleep at Jomsom, at 2,720 m, which is lower, and our guide carries a pulse oximeter. The road gives you two days to rise from Pokhara. Tell us about any heart, lung or blood-pressure condition before you book, and ask your doctor if you are over 65.
You see the temples and villages on the way, you rise gradually, and you are not dependent on Jomsom flights, which run in the morning only and are cancelled in strong wind. The road is longer and rougher.
No. Muktinath, Kagbeni and Jomsom are outside the restricted area. The permit is needed only north of Kagbeni, which this tour does not visit.
Yes. Tell us if you are vegetarian or eat no egg, and we tell every lodge. Marpha and Jomsom kitchens handle it well.
Yes. Your guide and vehicle are for your party only. We never add strangers to a private booking.
The route and jeeps are the same on all three. Budget gives you simple twin-share rooms and breakfast. Standard gives you private rooms and all meals. Luxury gives you private rooms with ensuite bathrooms where the lodge has them, and all meals with fruit and non-alcoholic drinks. Lodge standards in Tatopani and Jomsom are modest on all three.
No. A child pays the same as an adult, because permits, hotels, a seat in the vehicle and taxes cost us the same for a child. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can plan the days around them.
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. You can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice. The deposit itself is not refunded if you cancel.
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers domestic road travel, medical care, altitude up to 5,000 m with emergency helicopter rescue, and the dates of your trip. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
You pay a 10% deposit to book and the balance when you arrive in Kathmandu. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. Card payments carry a 3.5% bank charge.
