ActivitiesTwo short treks in one booking
Best TimeMar to May and Oct to Nov

This joins two of the best short treks near Pokhara in one booking. You walk the Poon Hill route first: Ulleri, Ghorepani, sunrise from Poon Hill at 3,210 m and the Gurung village of Ghandruk. After a rest night in Pokhara you walk the Mardi Himal ridge, which climbs through forest to High Camp at 3,580 m and on to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 m, with Machhapuchhre almost overhead.

The two legs are the same as our four-day Poon Hill trek and five-day Mardi Himal trek from Pokhara, joined in one booking with one guide. The days are long and steady, and the base camp day reaches 4,500 m, so you need to be fit and to walk slowly. The Pokhara night is not included, so you can choose your hotel.

Fixed departures are dates we have already committed to run. Your party still treks as its own private group with its own guide; we never merge bookings or add strangers, and solo trekkers are welcome on any date. Private departures on any other date you choose are also available. On both, the per-person price is set by the size of your own party.

Essential Information

Before you go

  • Altitude: you sleep at 2,860 m in Ghorepani and at 3,580 m at High Camp, and walk to 4,500 m on day 7. Walk slowly, drink plenty of water and tell your guide at once if you get a headache or feel unwell.
  • Rest night: day 4 ends in a Pokhara hotel that is not in the price. We can reserve a 3-star (USD 100 per room per night) or a 5-star (USD 150) as a booking add-on.
  • Insurance: your policy should cover trekking to 5,000 m, including helicopter rescue.
  • Fitness: you need to be able to walk for several hours a day on steps and uneven ground. No technical skill is needed.
  • Packing: a day pack, warm layers for the evenings, good walking shoes, a rain jacket and a head torch. We send a full packing list when you book.
  • Hotel nights before and after the trek are not included, so we can fit them to your own dates. We can book them for you.
  • Documents: bring your passport.

FAQs

The Poon Hill route ends at Ghandruk and the Mardi Himal route starts from Kande, so they use different road-heads. Joining them in Pokhara also gives you a night of rest between two hard walking blocks.
No. The hotel night is a booking add-on, USD 100 per room for a 3-star or USD 150 for a 5-star, so you can choose your own hotel or ask us to reserve one.
Yes. We sell the Poon Hill trek (4 days) and the Mardi Himal trek (5 days) separately, both from Pokhara. This booking puts them together with one guide and one set of arrangements.
It is a moderate trek made of two blocks. The Poon Hill days are three to six hours of steady walking. The Mardi Himal days are longer, and the climb from Forest Camp to High Camp gains about 1,060 m. The base camp day reaches 4,500 m, so you need to be fit and walk slowly.
An Annapurna Conservation Area permit and a TIMS card for each route. We arrange them and the cost is in your price.
March to May and October to November. The rhododendrons flower in spring, and autumn has the clearest views.
Yes. Your guide, and your porters on Standard and Luxury, are for your party only. We never add strangers to a private booking.
The route is the same on all three. Budget gives you a guide, simple lodges with shared rooms, the permits and the vehicle, with no porter and no meals. Standard adds one porter for every two trekkers (a solo guest has no porter and the guide carries up to 10 kg of the bag), a private room where the lodge has one and all meals. Luxury gives each trekker a dedicated porter, the best available lodge room, all meals, fruit and nuts and unlimited soft drinks.
No. A child pays the same as an adult, because permits, hotels, a seat in the vehicle and taxes cost us the same for a child. Tell us the age of each child when you book so we can plan the days around them.
A licensed guide leads every day. We tell you your guide's name once your booking is confirmed.
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. If you cancel yourself, the deposit is not refundable, but you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice.
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers trekking to 5,000 m, medical care, emergency helicopter rescue and the dates of your trip. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
You pay a 10% deposit to book and the balance before the trip. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. Card payments carry a 3.5% bank charge.
