This is the shortest way we run to Annapurna Base Camp, for fit trekkers who are already in Pokhara. A 4WD jeep takes you to Jhinu Danda, you walk up to Chomrong, climb the Chomrong staircase into the Modi Khola gorge, reach base camp at 4,130 m inside a ring of snow peaks, and come down by Bamboo to the jeep at Jhinu Danda.
This five-day version is for fit trekkers who have already been above 3,500 to 4,000 m, for example on an earlier trek in the Himalaya, the Alps or the Andes. It has no rest day: you sleep at 2,170 m on the first night and 3,174 m on the second, and reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m on the third. If you have not trekked at that height before, please choose our 7-day trek from Pokhara or our 9-day trek from Kathmandu, which give your body more time.
The 5-day trek does not run from June to September, when the jeep road is unreliable in the monsoon. We check the road before every departure.

Who this trek is for: fit trekkers who have been above 3,500 to 4,000 m before. It has no rest day and the climb from Deurali to base camp gains about 950 m in one day. If you have not been that high, choose the 7-day or 9-day trek. We ask about your altitude history when you book, and your guide decides whether to go on at each stage.
Altitude: you sleep at 3,174 m at Deurali and 4,130 m at Annapurna Base Camp. Walk slowly, drink plenty of water and tell your guide at once if you get a headache or feel unwell. Your guide checks your oxygen level each evening.
Season and road: this trek does not run from June to September. We check the jeep road before every departure.
Long days: day 1 and day 5 include a drive of 3.5 to 5 hours each. Day 5 also has four hours of walking, so you reach Pokhara in the evening.
Insurance: your policy should cover trekking to 5,000 m, including helicopter rescue.
Fitness: you need to be able to walk for several hours a day on steps and uneven ground. No technical skill is needed.
Packing: a day pack, warm layers for the evenings, good walking shoes, a rain jacket and a head torch. We send a full packing list when you book.
Hotel nights before and after the trek are not included, so we can fit them to your own dates. We can book them for you.
Documents: bring your passport.
FAQs
The drive from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda takes between 3.5 and 5 hours each way. We use 4WD jeeps, with up to seven people in each, so a larger group travels in several jeeps. The jeeps are included in your price.
It is strenuous. Day 2 is about seven hours including the Chomrong staircase of about 2,500 steps, and day 3 climbs about 950 m to base camp. You need to be able to walk for several hours a day, and to walk slowly at altitude. No technical skill is needed.
An Annapurna Conservation Area permit and a TIMS card. We arrange both and the cost is in your price.
Yes. Your guide, and your porters on Standard and Luxury, are for your party only. We never add strangers to a private booking.
The route is the same. Budget gives you a guide, simple lodges with shared rooms and the permits and transport, with no porter and no meals. Standard adds one porter for every two trekkers, a private room where the lodge has one and all meals. Luxury gives each trekker a dedicated porter, the best rooms available and all meals with fruit, nuts and unlimited soft drinks.
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. If you cancel yourself, the deposit is not refundable, but you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice.
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers trekking, medical care, emergency helicopter rescue and the dates of your trip. Your cover should include trekking to 5,000 m. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
You pay a 10% deposit to book and the balance before the trek. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. Card payments carry a 3.5% bank charge.
The trail from Chomrong to base camp is the same. This version uses a 4WD jeep to Jhinu Danda at the start and the end, so it skips the Ghandruk and Jhinu nights and has no rest day. The 7-day trek starts in Pokhara and walks from Nayapul. The 9-day trek starts and ends in Kathmandu.
Only if you are fit and have been above 3,500 to 4,000 m before. You sleep at 3,174 m on night 2 and reach 4,130 m on night 3, with no rest day, and the last climb gains about 950 m in one day. If you have not been that high, please choose the 7-day trek from Pokhara or the 9-day trek from Kathmandu. We ask about your altitude history when you book.
Not from June to September, because the jeep road is unreliable in the monsoon. We check the road before every departure. If the road is not safe, we tell you before you travel, and the cancellation answer below applies.
