Overview

From US$1,500Updated Oct 17, 2026

See the Langtang valley in a single day instead of a week on foot. We collect you from your Kathmandu hotel, you fly by helicopter north up the Langtang valley to Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 m, with Langtang Lirung above you, and you are back in Kathmandu afterwards.

The Kyanjin Gompa landing with time on the ground runs in December and January with our regular helicopter operator, and the price shown is for those months. For other months, from October to May, we can ask another helicopter company, and we confirm the price and availability with you before you book. From June to September monsoon cloud makes the flight unreliable, so we do not sell it then; tell us your dates and we will suggest another tour, such as our Langtang trek.

The helicopter is chartered for your group alone, up to four guests, on every option, so you never share with strangers. The price per person falls with each extra guest, up to four. One helicopter takes four guests, so the price per person is lowest when four of you fly together. With five or more we send a second helicopter, so message us on WhatsApp for a two-helicopter quote. The tour includes a landing at Kyanjin Gompa, with time on the ground that depends on the weather and the season, usually up to about 30 minutes. The pilot makes the final call on the day, and if the weather stops a landing we tell you before you fly. Winter mornings in the valley are very cold.

Kyanjin Gompa is at 3,870 m, about 2,500 m higher than Kathmandu, and a day flight gives you no time to acclimatise. Tell us about any heart, lung or blood-pressure condition before you book.

The tour starts and ends in Kathmandu, with hotel pick-up and drop-off. Your Kathmandu hotel is not included, but we can arrange it.

Every booking supports the Nagarjun Learning Center, our school in Saldum. The Everest Holiday is a family company since 2016, built on three generations of family guides in the Himalayas.

Questions people ask

When does this tour run?
The landing at Kyanjin Gompa with time on the ground runs in December and January with our regular helicopter operator, and the price shown is for those months. For October, November and February to May we can ask another helicopter company, and we confirm the price with you before you book. We do not sell it from June to September, when monsoon cloud makes the flight unreliable. If your dates fall then, tell us and we will suggest another tour, such as our Langtang trek.
Will the helicopter land at Kyanjin Gompa?
Yes. A landing is part of the tour. Time on the ground depends on the weather and the season, usually up to about 30 minutes. The pilot makes the final call on the day, and if the weather stops a landing we tell you before you fly.
Is the helicopter shared with other travellers?
No. The helicopter is chartered for your group alone, up to four guests. We never merge separate private bookings. The price per person falls with each extra guest, up to four.
How many people can fly together?
Up to four guests in one helicopter. For a bigger party, ask us and we will check what can be arranged.
How high do we go, and is it safe?
Kyanjin Gompa is 3,870 m, about 2,500 m higher than Kathmandu. You get no time to acclimatise on a day flight, so time on the ground is limited to about 30 minutes. Tell us about any heart, lung or blood-pressure condition before you book.
How cold is it at Kyanjin Gompa?
Cold, especially in the morning, and from December to February there can be snow around Kyanjin. Autumn and spring mornings are usually the clearest. Bring a down jacket, gloves and a hat whatever the month.
How is this different from the Langtang trek?
The trek takes about a week on foot and you sleep in teahouses up the valley. The helicopter tour is one day, with no walking and no overnight, so you see the valley and the mountains but you do not gain the height slowly.
Do you carry oxygen?
There is emergency oxygen on board. If you have a medical condition that may need oxygen, please speak to your doctor before you fly.
What happens if the weather stops the flight?
If the weather stops the helicopter on your day, we move you to the next day it can fly, or to any other date, at no charge to you. If we cannot run your tour at all, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf. If you cancel yourself, the deposit is not refundable, but you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice.
What is the difference between the three options?
The helicopter is private to your group on all three. Budget gives you the flight, permits and Kathmandu hotel transfers by vehicle sized to your group. Standard adds a private vehicle and an escort guide who looks after you on the ground. Luxury adds SUV-class transfers and lunch.
Do children pay less?
No. A child pays the same as an adult, because the helicopter seat, permits and taxes cost us the same for a child. Tell us the age of each child when you book.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers helicopter flights and altitude up to 4,000 m (Kyanjin Gompa is 3,870 m). We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
How do I pay?
You pay a 10% deposit to book and the balance before the trip. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. We cover the card fee on the deposit. If you pay the balance by card it carries a 3.5% bank charge, and cash in Kathmandu has no fee.
