Why I built this trek the way I did

I am Shreejan, the founder of The Everest Holiday. Pokhara paragliding is one of the bucket-list activities every Nepal visitor considers and most do without proper vetting. The cost difference between a certified pilot with a maintained wing and a cheaper operator is real, and the safety record difference is real too. We work with pilots who hold APPI Tandem certification and rotate their wings on a fixed schedule.

The flight matters more than the price difference. The thermals over Pokhara produce stable conditions for most of the year, but November and December occasionally bring crosswinds that push less-experienced pilots into uncomfortable landings. Our pilots know the local conditions and pull the schedule if the wind is wrong. Some cheaper operators fly anyway.

Every booking helps fund the teacher's salary at our Nagarjun Learning Center in Saldum, where 70 children get free education out of my own pocket.

Overview

Paragliding in Nepal is an exciting adventure activity enjoyed by both beginners and experienced thrill seekers. It involves flying a paraglider, which is a light, free-flying aircraft launched on foot and designed without a rigid frame. The pilot sits comfortably in a harness, suspended beneath a durable fabric wing, and glides smoothly through the open sky.

For anyone who wants to experience the feeling of soaring like a bird, paragliding in Pokhara is one of the most popular and rewarding adventures in the country. The sport is relatively new in Nepal, gaining momentum after its introduction around 2007 in the Lakeside area. Since then, it has become a must-try activity for travellers visiting the region.

A paragliding flight offers an unforgettable perspective of the landscape below. As you glide through the air, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Himalayan peaks, lush green hills, peaceful forests, and the shimmering waters of Phewa Lake. The calm and freedom you feel while floating above such wide scenery often leaves visitors with a deep sense of joy and satisfaction, making it one of the best-value adventure experiences in Nepal.

FAQs

Pricing for our Pokhara paragliding flight is on request, as the rate depends on the season, current operator fees and any photo or video add-ons — so ask us for today’s price. It is a one-day tandem flight from Sarangkot, and we confirm the all-in cost in writing before you book.

You spend about 20–30 minutes in the air over Phewa Lake, depending on the wind and thermals on the day. The activity itself is a one-day outing, so allow time for the short drive up to the Sarangkot take-off point, the safety briefing and the landing near the lakeside.

No experience is needed — you fly tandem with a licensed pilot who handles take-off, steering and landing while you simply sit back and enjoy the view. The grade is Easy, so first-timers and nervous flyers are very welcome.

Yes — you fly strapped into a tandem harness with a licensed, experienced pilot who controls the whole flight. Paragliding always depends on the weather, so flights only go ahead in safe, clear conditions and may be rescheduled if winds are unsuitable. Ask us about the operator’s current safety standards and equipment when you book.

Spring and autumn are the best times to fly in Pokhara, when skies are clearest and the mountain views are at their sharpest. Mornings usually give the calmest air and the best Annapurna and Machhapuchhre views, so we aim for an early clear-weather slot.

Yes — on a clear spring or autumn morning you can see Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and the Annapurna range as you fly, with Phewa Lake and Pokhara city spread out below. Sarangkot is one of the few places where you launch with an 8,000m massif on the horizon, which is what makes this flight special.

Weight and age limits do apply for tandem paragliding, and they can change with the operator and conditions, so please ask us for the current limits before you book. Tell us the passenger’s age and approximate weight when you enquire and we’ll confirm straight away whether the flight can go ahead.

The flight reaches a maximum altitude of around 1,600m / 5,249ft, launching from the Sarangkot ridge above Pokhara and gliding down towards Phewa Lake. This is a low-altitude activity, so there is no risk of altitude sickness.

Your package covers the tandem flight with a licensed pilot, the safety briefing and all the flying equipment, and we arrange everything needed for you to fly. Transfers, photo or video options and pickup details vary, so ask us exactly what is included when we send your quote.

Very little fitness is required — the grade is Easy and you spend the flight seated in a harness rather than walking or climbing. You only need to take a few quick steps at take-off and landing as the pilot guides you; if you have a medical condition, please let us know in advance.

Wear comfortable clothes, closed trainers or walking shoes and a light layer, as it is cooler on the Sarangkot ridge and in the air. Bring sunglasses and a motion-sickness remedy if you are prone to it — we’ll confirm the morning meeting time and anything else to bring when you book.

Yes — most pilots can film your flight on a camera pole, capturing you with the Annapurna backdrop and Phewa Lake below. Photos and video are usually an optional add-on rather than automatically included, so tell us if you’d like them and we’ll add them to your quote.
