Nepal Trekking from Taiwan: TWD Prices, Flights & Guide

Last updated 10 October 2026. The European Central Bank does not publish a Taiwan dollar rate, so figures use a market rate of NT$31.96 to the US dollar on 10 October 2026, which moves daily. The flight fares are from the Taipei search I ran on 7 October 2026 for a late-October trip.

Trekking in Nepal from Taiwan: the short answer

Everest Base Camp over 12 days is priced at USD 1,399 (Budget), USD 2,499 (Standard) and USD 4,999 (Luxury) per head for up to four people, about TWD 44,700, TWD 79,900 and TWD 159,800 at today's rate, and the same in 2027. Taiwan passport holders buy the visa on arrival. My search found no nonstop from Taipei, but Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong started at NT$32,511 return. Write to me on WhatsApp at +977 9810351300 and I will work out the cost for your group.

From Yushan to Gorak Shep

If you have climbed Yushan, you know the feel of thin air. It is 3,952 metres according to Yushan National Park. Gorak Shep, the highest night on the Everest route, is 5,164 metres, about 1,200 metres higher, and Kala Patthar is 5,545. The difference is not the climb but the days: five to seven hours of walking, 12 days in a row, with two rest days that cannot be skipped. A loaded pack on stairs and long hill days is the best preparation, and the altitude profile shows where people struggle.

Some prices depend on party size. on Poon Hill the figures are for a party of two to four; travelling solo costs USD 960 on Standard and USD 1,930 on Luxury; for the 4-day Poon Hill, one person pays USD 770 on Budget, USD 980 on Standard and USD 2,020 on Luxury; for Langtang the table gives the price for one, with two to four paying less (USD 320 on Budget, 570 on Standard, 800 on Luxury).

Everest Base Camp is the one most people write to me about, and it needs about 14 days with travel. Annapurna Base Camp takes nine days and reaches 4,130 metres without a mountain flight. Poon Hill, or the four-day version from Pokhara, fits a public holiday and a few days of leave. Langtang and Mardi Himal are quieter valleys and ridges.

The tiers are about support, not about the route. Budget: your pack, shared rooms, meals bought as you go. Standard: all meals, a private room and a porter shared with one other trekker. Luxury: your own porter, a deluxe private room, and on the Everest trek the Lukla flights by helicopter. If you are alone on Standard, the guide carries up to 10 kg because there is no one to share a porter with. Kathmandu hotel nights are quoted separately, and our homestay is USD 15 per person. Jacket, sleeping bag and duffel come free.

Flights from Taipei

Settings for the Taipei search: one adult, economy, a checked bag, leaving on Sunday 25 October 2026 and flying home on Wednesday 11 November, on one ticket with at most one stop each way. A nonstop-only search returned nothing from Taipei Taoyuan. With one change there were 15 itineraries from NT$32,511 to NT$46,731, and 14 of the 15 outbounds went through Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific, the other through Guangzhou on China Southern. The cheapest, NT$32,511, was Cathay Pacific out through Hong Kong (leaving at 08:20, in Kathmandu at 21:30 the same day) and China Southern home through Guangzhou. The quickest, about 20 hours 25 minutes in all, was NT$45,266. These are October fares; a spring 2027 trip will price differently, so search again with real dates. The full sums are in the Everest Base Camp cost guide for Taiwan.

Visa for a Taiwan passport

Taiwan passports are not on Nepal's list of visa-free or exempt holders, and Taiwan is not one of the twelve countries that must apply beforehand, so you take the visa on arrival. Fees: USD 30 (15 days), USD 50 (30 days, around TWD 1,600) and USD 125 (90 days). Dollars only. You can complete the form online first and show the receipt at the desk. See the visa on arrival guide.

Holidays and clocks for 2027

The 2027 government calendar gives Lunar New Year days off from Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February, Tomb Sweeping and Children's Day days off from Sunday 4 to Tuesday 6 April, and Labour Day on Saturday 1 May. February is cold at altitude, so for Lunar New Year I would send you to a lower trek, and keep the Everest trek for April or May. Private employers follow the Labor Standards Act and may differ, so ask yours. Nepal is 2 hours 15 minutes behind Taiwan all year. Two Nepali festivals matter for dates. The expected 2027 windows are 6 to 10 October for Dashain and 29 to 31 October for Tihar; offices close for both, which is when permits slow down (48 hours of working days). See the festival calendar.

Insurance

Taiwan's national health insurance is built around care at home, so buy a travel policy that suits a high trek. Check the wording for trekking to 6,000 metres, helicopter rescue and illness. A helicopter paid out of pocket is USD 3,000 to USD 5,000, about TWD 95,900 to TWD 159,800, and Kala Patthar at 5,545 metres is above the limit of many ordinary plans. Send me the policy and I will read it. See helicopter cover to 6,000 metres.

Language, food and who to call

Treks run in English. I cannot promise a Mandarin-speaking guide, so ask me and I will answer honestly for your dates. Teahouse food is dal bhat, noodles and soup, and vegetarian is easy. Before you travel, ask Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs which office serves Taiwanese travellers in Nepal and keep its emergency number with your documents. Every trek has a licensed guide, as most routes in Nepal require.

Paying us from Taiwan

We ask for 10 per cent when you book. The rest is due in Kathmandu, in US dollars or euros, and a card adds 3.5 per cent while cash adds nothing. Taiwan dollars or Nepali rupees are not an option. Rescheduling is free of charge to any date in the following year, as long as we know 72 hours before (a week for restricted areas). If you decide not to go and cancel instead, the deposit stays with us and there is no refund. If we cannot run your trek, you get your payments back less taxes, bank and card charges and any money already laid out for permits or flights.

Check us before you pay

Before you pay a deposit to anyone in Nepal, check the paperwork: registrar, TAAN, tourism licence, forex certificate. We hold all four, and TAAN lists us as member 1586. Paperwork is a floor, not a promise, and I say that because licensed operators have been involved in scams. Ask me for a video call. Reviews: more than 300, on TripAdvisor, Google and Trustpilot. A share of each booking goes to the Nagarjun Learning Center.

Frequently asked questions

Do Taiwanese citizens need a visa for Nepal?

Yes, and it is simple: pay on arrival, in US dollars, USD 30, USD 50 or USD 125 for 15, 30 or 90 days. One photo, and a passport valid for six months.

How much does Everest Base Camp cost from Taiwan?

The trek is USD 1,399, 2,499 or 4,999 per person by tier, about TWD 44,700, TWD 79,900 and TWD 159,800. In my October 2026 search a Taipei return was NT$32,511 to NT$46,731, and insurance, tips and Kathmandu hotels come on top.

Is there a direct flight from Taipei to Kathmandu?

Not in my search. A nonstop-only search returned nothing; the routes had one change, mostly through Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific.

Is Yushan good training for Everest Base Camp?

It tells you how you handle 3,900 metres. The Everest trek is lower than a summit day but far longer, so long walking days with a pack are the better test.

Can I do Everest Base Camp over Lunar New Year?

It is possible, but February is very cold above Namche. Poon Hill or Mardi Himal suit that break better.

When is the best time to go?

March to May and October to November. In 2027 Dashain is expected around 6 to 10 October and Tihar around 29 to 31 October.

Can I pay in Taiwan dollars?

We cannot accept Taiwan dollars or Nepali rupees. The balance is paid in dollars or euros, and cash saves you the 3.5 per cent card charge.

What insurance do I need?

Buy it at home: trekking to 6,000 metres, helicopter evacuation and sickness cover, confirmed in writing.

Is there an embassy for Taiwan in Kathmandu?

I do not have a source for that, so please ask Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs which office serves you in Nepal.

Can I trek alone?

You can. We run a private departure even for one trekker, and separate private bookings are never merged.
