Muktinath is one of the great pilgrimage sites of Nepal, sacred to Hindus and Buddhists. This five-day tour flies you to Jomsom, takes you up to the temple by jeep, and builds in a spare day because mountain flights do not always leave on time.

You fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, then from Pokhara to Jomsom, and see Kagbeni, Muktinath and Marpha. The temple is at about 3,800 m, so tell us before you book if you have a heart, lung or blood-pressure condition.

Road and flight status, checked on 2 October 2026: the road between Pokhara and Jomsom is damaged and closed for repairs, so this tour uses the flights. The flights run in the morning only and the weather decides. If the road reopens, we can quote a private 4WD drive from Pokhara instead of the flights. It is a different itinerary and price, so ask us.

Fixed departures are dates we have already committed to run. Your party still treks as its own private group with its own guide; we never merge bookings or add strangers, and solo trekkers are welcome on any date. Private departures on any other date you choose are also available. On both, the per-person price is set by the size of your own party.

Essential Information

Before you go

  • Altitude: Jomsom is 2,720 m and Muktinath about 3,800 m. You sleep at Jomsom, lower than the temple, but you fly straight to 2,720 m, so walk slowly and drink plenty.
  • Flights: Jomsom flights run in the morning only, and wind or cloud can cancel them. Small aircraft have tight baggage limits, so pack light.
  • Season: Mustang is in the rain shadow of the Annapurnas, so it is drier than the rest of Nepal in July and August, though flights still need clear weather. Nights are cold from November to March.
  • Food: tell us if you are vegetarian or eat no egg. Jomsom and Marpha kitchens handle it well.
  • Documents: bring your passport.

FAQs

At the time of writing (2 October 2026) it is damaged and closed for repairs, which is why this tour flies. If it reopens, we can quote a private 4WD drive from Pokhara to Muktinath instead. It is a different itinerary and price.
It happens, because the flights depend on wind and cloud. Day 3 is a spare day, so one delay does not cost you the temple. If the weather stops the flights for longer, we rebook the next available flight and tell you what it means for your onward travel.
The temple is at about 3,800 m. You sleep at Jomsom, at 2,720 m, which is lower, and our guide carries a pulse oximeter. Tell us about any heart, lung or blood-pressure condition before you book, and ask your doctor if you are over 65.
The route and flights are the same. Budget gives you simple twin-share rooms and breakfast. Standard gives you private rooms and all meals. Luxury gives you private rooms with ensuite bathrooms where the lodge has them, and all meals. Lodge standards in Jomsom are modest on all three.
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. If you cancel yourself, the deposit is not refundable, but you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice notice.
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers domestic flights, altitude up to 3,800 m and trip delays. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
