Bardia is the largest and wildest national park in the Nepal lowlands, and it is much quieter than Chitwan. This four-day programme flies you to Nepalgunj and spends three nights at a jungle lodge, so you do not lose two days on the road.

You go out in an open jeep with a naturalist guide, walk the jungle on foot, paddle a dugout canoe on the Karnali river and spend an evening in a Tharu village. Tigers and one-horned rhinos live in the park. They are rarely seen, and we do not promise a sighting.

We run the jeep, the walks and the canoe only. There are no animal rides and no captive-animal visits on this trip.

Fixed departures are dates we have already committed to run. Your party still treks as its own private group with its own guide; we never merge bookings or add strangers, and solo trekkers are welcome on any date. Private departures on any other date you choose are also available. On both, the per-person price is set by the size of your own party.

FAQs

Maybe, but probably not. Bardia has tigers and one-horned rhinos, and it is one of the better places in Nepal to look, but they are shy and the park is large. Deer, monkeys, crocodiles and many birds are far more likely. No guide can promise a sighting, and the price does not depend on one.
Bardia is further west and much quieter. You share the park with few other vehicles. Chitwan is easier to reach by road. We fly you to Nepalgunj, so you spend three nights in the jungle instead of two days on the road.
The programme is the same. Budget gives you a simple fan-cooled lodge room and all meals. Standard gives you an air-conditioned room. Luxury gives you the best available lodge and a safari jeep used only by your party. The park fees, the naturalist guide and the transfers are included on all three.
We do jeep, walk and canoe only. We do not offer animal rides or visits to captive-animal centres.
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. If you cancel yourself, the deposit is not refundable, but you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice notice.
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers medical care, cancellation and the dates of your trip. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
