Why I built it this way

Families ask me about Pokhara a lot, and they ask the same question: can we do it without a trek and without rushing the children? This is the answer. Four days by the lake, with the sunrise from Sarangkot by car, a boat to the island temple, the museum, the waterfall and the cave, and a short walk to the World Peace Pagoda. Nothing is long, nothing is high, and every afternoon has time to rest.

The adventure is optional. On day 3 a parent can fly tandem from Sarangkot, and anyone 10 and over can do the bungee. We add them as extras so the base price stays fair for families who just want the lake and the views. If you want both included, our Pokhara Adventure Tour, 3 Days, is the one. Read Things to Do in Pokhara: Nepal's Adventure Capital on the Lake and Pokhara Culture and Temples: Bindhyabasini, Tal Barahi and the Peace Pagoda for ideas.

A child pays the same as an adult, because the hotel rooms, the vehicle and the guide cost us the same. It starts and ends in Pokhara, and it fits before or after our Poon Hill family trek. Every booking helps pay the teacher's salary at our Nagarjun Learning Center in Saldum. The Everest Holiday is a family company founded in 2016, from three generations of guiding in the Himalayas.

Best time to go, month by month

These notes come from our guides and our Pokhara blogs. They are not forecasts, and the activities run on the day only when the weather is safe.

Not included: international flights, your Nepal visa (USD 30 for 15 days or USD 50 for 30 days, paid in cash on arrival), Kathmandu hotel nights, travel insurance, tips and personal spending. You pay a 10% deposit to book and the balance in Kathmandu or online. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. We cover the card fee on the deposit. If you pay the balance by card it carries a 3.5% bank charge, and cash has no fee.

Getting there and getting back

The holiday starts at Pokhara airport, the tourist bus park or your hotel. Pokhara is a 25-minute flight or about seven hours by tourist bus from Kathmandu, and we can book either for you. Every drive on the holiday is short. We check road conditions 48 hours before departure. If a road is not open, we move your dates free of charge.

Visa on arrival is USD 30 for 15 days or USD 50 for 30 days, and your passport must be valid for at least six months. Children need their own passport and visa.

Safety and altitude

There is no altitude on this holiday. The risks are the sun, the lake and traffic. We ask everyone to wear a life jacket on the boats, and your guide keeps the family together in the busy bazaar. Bring sun cream and hats for the children and keep them drinking water.

The optional bungee is for ages 10 and over, between 35 and 125 kg, with closed shoes. Paragliding operators set a weight limit of about 100 kg. Tell us everyone's age when you book.

What to pack

  • Comfortable walking shoes for everyone
  • A warm layer for the early Sarangkot sunrise
  • Sun hats, SPF 50 sun cream and sunglasses
  • A light rain jacket
  • Swimwear if your hotel has a pool
  • Snacks and a water bottle for each child

Questions people ask

Is Pokhara good for a family holiday?
Yes. It is flat and green by a lake, with no altitude, short drives and plenty for children: boats, a waterfall that vanishes into the ground, a cave, a mountain museum and the sunrise from Sarangkot. This holiday keeps every day short.
How much does it cost?
For a couple, the price per person is USD 380 Budget, USD 645 Standard and USD 960 Luxury. A solo traveller pays USD 665, USD 1,065 and USD 1,705. The price falls for larger groups, down to USD 190, USD 390 and USD 665 for 13 to 20 guests. These are our 2027 prices. If we have already quoted you a price in writing, we hold it.
What age is it suitable for?
Any age. Babies and toddlers are fine on the sightseeing. The optional bungee is for ages 10 and over, and paragliding operators set a weight limit of about 100 kg.
Do children pay less?
No. A child pays the same as an adult, because the rooms, the vehicle and the guide cost us the same for a child.
How much walking is there?
Very little. The longest walk is the steady climb up to the World Peace Pagoda after the boat crossing, and your guide sets the pace for the youngest walker. The sunrise at Sarangkot is by car.
Can we add paragliding or the bungee?
Yes, as optional extras on day 3. Paragliding is a tandem flight with a certified pilot, with photos and video. The bungee is an 80 m jump for ages 10 and over.
Is the boat safe for children?
We ask everyone, children first, to wear a life jacket on the boats, and your guide stays with the family. The lake is usually calm in the mornings.
When is the best time to go in 2027?
October to April. The Christmas holidays are a popular time for families. June to mid September is monsoon: wet, but green, with the waterfall at its fullest.
Are meals included?
Breakfast on Budget, and all meals on Standard and Luxury. Lakeside has plenty of family-friendly restaurants for the meals that are not included.
Can we combine it with a trek?
Yes. It fits well before or after our Poon Hill Family Trek with Kids, 4 days, or the two-day Australian Camp trek.
Can we start in Kathmandu?
Yes. We can book your flight or tourist bus to Pokhara and add Kathmandu nights before or after.
How do I pay?
You pay a 10% deposit to book and the balance in Kathmandu or online. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. We cover the card fee on the deposit. If you pay the balance by card it carries a 3.5% bank charge. Cash carries none. We cannot take Nepali rupees from foreign guests.
What happens if I need to cancel, or you cannot run the trip?
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. If you cancel yourself, the deposit is not refundable, but you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers the holiday, for every member of the family. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
