The Chandragiri cable car carries you from about 1,550 m to the top station at about 2,550 m in roughly ten minutes, over pine forest on the western rim of the valley. At the top there are viewpoints, a temple and short walks, and on clear days a long line of Himalayan peaks.

It is an easy day with no trekking, good for families, older guests and anyone who wants a high viewpoint without a long walk. Clouds and rain are common in the monsoon, and the views are best in the dry months.

Before you go

  • Weather: the top station is above 2,500 m and is cooler than Kathmandu. Bring a light jacket.
  • Best months: October to April for clear views. Clouds and rain are common in the monsoon.
  • Children: young children must be accompanied by an adult, and the operator sets its own age rules. Tell us your children's ages when you book.
  • Documents: bring your passport.

Yes. Your price includes two-way tickets for foreign visitors. On Luxury they are express tickets.
Yes, for most. There is no trekking, but there are some steps and short walks at the top. Tell us the ages and any mobility needs before you book.
Yes. Your guide and vehicle are for your party only. We never add strangers to a private booking.
The day is the same on all three. Budget gives you a private vehicle, an English-speaking guide and the cable car tickets, with no meals. Standard adds lunch with tea or coffee. Luxury gives you a more spacious air-conditioned vehicle, a senior guide, express cable car tickets and lunch with all non-alcoholic drinks.
If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf, or move you to another date. If your plans change, you can reschedule free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours' notice. The deposit itself is not refunded if you cancel.
Yes. Buy travel insurance at home, before you travel, and check that it covers medical care and the dates of your trip. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.

October to April for clear views gives the clearest weather and views. We check conditions before every departure and tell you if anything changes.

Yes. We run it privately for groups of 1 to 20, so you never wait for other people to sign up. On your own the price is USD 155 on Budget, 185 on Standard and 240 on Luxury.
