Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Mexico: Prices in Pesos, Flights and Visa

Last updated 7 October 2026. The fare is for Mexico City (MEX) return, checked on 7 October 2026. Peso amounts use the European Central Bank reference rate of 6 October 2026, US$1 = MXN 17.94, which moves daily. We are paid in US dollars or euros.

Fares from Mexico City are scarce. With the settings used for every city in this series, economy, one adult, one checked bag, out on Sunday 25 October 2026, back on Wednesday 11 November, a single change each way and no self-transfer, there were no itineraries at all. With two changes allowed there was one: MXN 53,883 return on Turkish Airlines, going Mexico City, Cancún, Istanbul and Kathmandu. That ticket leaves at 09:30 on 25 October and reaches Kathmandu at 11:20 on 27 October, about 38 hours later. Home, it leaves Kathmandu at 12:45 on 11 November, changes at Istanbul and lands in Mexico City at 07:35 on 12 November, about 30 hours 35 minutes in all. Treat it as the single data point it is, and check airlines directly for more.

The trek is easier to pin down. What you pay for the 12-day Everest Base Camp trek, two to four people, per person: US$1,399 for Budget (about MXN 25,100), US$2,785 for Standard (about MXN 50,000), US$4,999 for Luxury (about MXN 89,700). A solo traveller pays US$2,275 on Budget (about MXN 40,800). Those figures hold for 2027. Using that one fare, a solo traveller would pay about MXN 105,100 to MXN 111,700 on Budget, MXN 111,200 to MXN 115,700 on Standard and MXN 153,100 to MXN 158,800 on Luxury, including the visa, insurance and tips.

The pesos, line by line

This table prices one traveller. It uses the cheapest and most expensive tickets from the search, then adds a 30-day visa, insurance and tips, with Budget guests adding meals and the others spending money. A Kathmandu hotel is a separate cost, but our own family homestay is US$15 per person a night, about MXN 270.

Only Budget leaves meals to you, at about US$25 to US$40 a day, so US$300 to US$480 in all. Standard and Luxury cover them. Bring in spending money too, for showers, charging and snacks: 20,000 to 30,000 rupees, or US$130 to US$195, withdrawn in Kathmandu. When the trek ends, tip a guide US$15 to US$20 for each day and a porter US$10 to US$15.

A Mexican passport and the visa

Mexico is not one of the twelve countries that must apply before travelling. Choose 15 days at US$30, 30 days at US$50 (about MXN 900) or 90 days at US$125, always paid in US dollars, with multiple entry. Insurance has to come from Mexico

Cover from IMSS or ISSSTE is built for treatment in Mexico, so a private travel policy is needed, bought before you fly. A useful policy has three features: cover to 6,000 m (Kala Patthar is 5,545 m, and plenty of standard plans end at 3,000 or 4,000 m), helicopter evacuation, which would otherwise cost US$3,000 to US$5,000 (about MXN 54,000 to MXN 90,000), and illness cover alongside injury cover. Picking a tier

The Budget tier means carrying your own pack, sharing rooms, paying for meals and flying to Lukla on a fixed-wing plane. On Standard the meals are included, the room is private and a porter is shared by two trekkers. Luxury gives you a personal porter, a deluxe private room with a bathroom, fruit, nuts, unlimited soft drinks and the helicopter to Lukla and back. Every tier comes with a licensed guide, the permits (NPR 3,000, 3,000 and 2,000), airport transfers and a borrowed down jacket and sleeping bag for minus 15. You already live at altitude

Mexico City sits at about 2,240 m, a little under Lukla at 2,860 m. Pico de Orizaba, at 5,636 m, is higher than Kala Patthar at 5,545 m, and Iztaccihuatl at 5,230 m is a classic acclimatisation climb. If you have been up either, you know how altitude feels, and the walk to Base Camp (5,364 m) is a long one rather than a steep one: five to seven hours a day, with two rest days among the 12. Gorak Shep, the highest night, is at 5,164 m. Being used to altitude does not exempt you from the slow pace; read how fit you need to be.

Private trip or group trip, the price per person is identical. The size of your party sets the band.

Leave, time and the calendar

Nepal is 11 hours 45 minutes ahead of Mexico City all year, since Mexico dropped daylight saving in 2022. The federal labour law gives 12 days of vacation in the first year of work and 14, 16, 18 and 20 in the next four. You will need about 14 days in total for a 12-day trek with travel and a spare day. For Mexico, March is useful: Holy Thursday and Good Friday in 2027 are 25 and 26 March. Nepal's own holidays affect timing: Dashain (17 to 23 October 2026) and Tihar (8 to 12 November) shut the government offices, so allow 48 hours of working days for a permit. Between those, autumn is the busiest season, and the Lukla flights leave from Manthali. That is a road journey of four to five hours, collected sometime from midnight to 2 am. Luxury guests go by helicopter from Kathmandu and miss it.

Paying from Mexico

You will not have to send the whole amount up front. A tenth of the price secures a place, and you give us the rest in Kathmandu in dollars or euros, in cash (no surcharge) or on a card (3.5 per cent more). Pesos and rupees are out. If you pull out, the deposit stays with us and nothing is paid back; the alternative is moving the dates for nothing, up to a year ahead, on 72 hours' notice (seven days where Tibet, Kailash or a restricted area is involved). If we pull out, you receive your payments back less taxes, bank and card fees, and permit or flight money that has already gone.

Verify who you are booking
