Trekking in Nepal from Mexico: the short answer
The 12-day Everest Base Camp trek is USD 1,399 on Budget, USD 2,499 on Standard and USD 4,999 on Luxury per person for one to four trekkers, about MXN 25,200, MXN 45,000 and MXN 90,000. Mexican passport holders buy the visa on arrival. Flights are the hard part: with one change each way no fare came up on 7 October 2026, and with two changes there was a single ticket at MXN 53,883 return. You will know altitude better than most, but sleeping height is what counts. Message me on WhatsApp, +977 9810351300, and I will help you plan around your leave.
You already live high, and it helps less than you think
Mexico City sits at about 2,240 metres, a little under Lukla at 2,860. If you have been up Iztaccíhuatl (5,230 metres) or Pico de Orizaba (5,636 metres, higher than Kala Patthar at 5,545), you know what thin air does to a headache and an appetite. That is a real advantage on day one. The part to respect is that the Base Camp walk is long rather than steep: five to seven hours a day, with two rest days among the 12, and a night at Gorak Shep, 5,164 metres. Being used to altitude does not exempt anyone from the slow pace, and I tell Mexican climbers the same thing I tell everyone else: keep the schedule.

Price notes, per person: Langtang Valley, 8 days: one trekker; two to four pay less (USD 320, 570 and 800); Ghorepani Poon Hill, 6 days: two to four trekkers; solo Standard is USD 960 and solo Luxury USD 1,930.
If you want Everest Base Camp and have 14 or 15 days, it is the one to do. Annapurna Base Camp reaches 4,130 metres without a mountain flight. Manaslu is for people who have crossed high passes and want few other trekkers; it is a restricted-area circuit, so a licensed guide and an agency permit are compulsory. Langtang and Mardi Himal are quieter. Poon Hill peaks at 3,210 metres and suits a first Himalayan week, or a family. With a flight this long, I would not travel for fewer than a week on the ground.
Short version of the tiers: Budget has you carrying your own pack in shared rooms and paying for meals. Standard gives you meals, private rooms and a porter shared by two. Luxury gives you a personal porter, deluxe private rooms and, on Everest, helicopter flights to and from Lukla. If you are a solo Standard trekker, the guide carries up to 10 kg. Hotel nights in Kathmandu are not included in any tier; the family homestay is USD 15 per person per night.
Leave, festivals and the Mexican calendar
The federal labour law gives 12 days of vacation in the first year of work, then 14, 16, 18 and 20 in the next four. A 12-day trek with travel and a spare day needs about 14 days, so most people use Semana Santa or save up. Holy Thursday and Good Friday in 2027 are 25 and 26 March, a good start to the spring season. Día de Muertos on 1 and 2 November falls in the middle of the autumn season, and Nepal's own holidays, Dashain (17 to 23 October) and Tihar (8 to 12 November) 2026, close the offices that issue permits, which need 48 hours of working days. Nepal is 11 hours 45 minutes ahead of Mexico City all year, since Mexico dropped daylight saving in 2022. In autumn the fixed-wing flights to Lukla leave from Manthali, a road journey of four to five hours, so expect a pick-up between midnight and 2 am; Luxury guests go by helicopter from Kathmandu. See when to trek in Nepal. The 2027 dates are set by the lunar calendar, so ask me before you fix flights for an autumn 2027 trip.
Visa for a Mexican passport
Mexico is not one of the twelve nationalities that must apply before travelling. The tourist visa is priced at USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days (about MXN 900) and USD 125 for 90 days. Do the online form first if you like, bring one photo, and keep six months of passport validity. See the visa on arrival guide.
Flights from Mexico City
The fare is for economy, one adult, one checked bag, out on Sunday 25 October 2026 and back on Wednesday 11 November, with one change each way and no self-transfer. There were no itineraries. With two changes allowed there was one: Turkish Airlines via Cancún and Istanbul at MXN 53,883 return, reaching Kathmandu about 38 hours after leaving, and about 30 hours 35 minutes coming home. Treat it as a single data point and check airlines directly. Fares and routes from Mexico change often. The sums with that fare in them are in the Everest Base Camp cost guide for Mexico.
Insurance from Mexico
Cover from IMSS or ISSSTE is built for treatment in Mexico, so buy a private travel policy before you fly. A useful policy covers trekking to 6,000 metres (many standard plans stop at 3,000 or 4,000), helicopter evacuation, which costs USD 3,000 to USD 5,000 if you pay yourself, and illness as well as injury. Send me the wording and I will read it. See helicopter cover to 6,000 metres.
Language, food and the guide
Treks run in English. I cannot promise a Spanish-speaking guide, so ask and I will answer plainly for your dates. Teahouse food is mostly dal bhat, noodles, rice and soup; vegetarian is easy. Nepal requires a licensed guide on most routes, and we send one on every trek.
Paying us from Mexico
The deposit is 10 per cent, and the rest is paid in Kathmandu, in dollars or euros. Cash has no fee and a card adds 3.5 per cent. We cannot take pesos or Nepali rupees. You can rebook free for any date within a year with 72 hours notice (seven days for restricted areas). The deposit itself is not refunded if you cancel. If we cancel, you get back what you paid except taxes, bank and card charges and money already spent.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry's travel guide for Nepal says the Embassy of Mexico in New Delhi serves Mexicans in Nepal. Keep that contact with your documents.
Check us before you pay
Anyone can check our standing with the company registrar, TAAN (member 1586), the tourism licence office and the forex certification. A licence is no proof of honesty, since licensed operators have been involved in scams, and I would rather you spoke to me first. Reviews number more than 300 across TripAdvisor, Google and Trustpilot. Part of every booking supports the Nagarjun Learning Center.
Frequently asked questions
Do Mexicans need a visa for Nepal?
Yes, bought on arrival at Kathmandu airport: USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days or USD 125 for 90 days. Pay in dollars and bring one photo.
How much does Everest Base Camp cost from Mexico?
The trek is USD 1,399, 2,499 or 4,999 per person by tier, about MXN 25,200, MXN 45,000 and MXN 90,000. Flights, insurance, tips and hotels come on top.
Is there a direct flight from Mexico City to Kathmandu?
No. On 7 October 2026 nothing was available with one change each way. The one result had two changes, via Cancún and Istanbul, and took about 38 hours outbound.
Does living in Mexico City help with altitude?
It helps you recognise the symptoms and sleep better in the first few nights. It does not replace the acclimatisation days, and the highest nights on Everest are much higher than 2,240 metres.
When is the best time to go from Mexico?
Semana Santa in March and the autumn season from mid-October to mid-November. Día de Muertos falls inside the autumn window.
Does IMSS or ISSSTE cover me in Nepal?
No. Buy a private travel policy with trekking cover to 6,000 metres and helicopter evacuation.
Is Pico de Orizaba good training?
It tells you how you handle 5,000 metres. A Nepal trek asks for 12 days of steady walking, so back-to-back long hikes with a pack are good extra preparation.
Can I pay in pesos?
No. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. Card payments carry a 3.5 per cent charge.
Is there a Mexican embassy in Kathmandu?
The Embassy of Mexico in New Delhi serves Mexicans in Nepal, according to the Mexican Foreign Ministry's travel guide.
Can I trek alone?
Yes. A solo traveller can book a private departure or join a fixed group departure, with a licensed guide either way.
