Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Denmark: Prices in DKK and EUR, Flights, Visa and Insurance

From Copenhagen the fares for this trip sat in a narrow band, DKK 13,623 to DKK 15,401, and none was nonstop. That makes the budgeting easier. The Everest Holiday has been a registered company in Kathmandu since 2016, and the guides in my family go back three generations. Per person, for two to four trekkers, the 12-day trek is US$1,399 (about DKK 9,300) on Budget, US$2,785 (about DKK 18,500) on Standard and US$4,999 (about DKK 33,150) on Luxury. Those prices hold for 2027. A solo Budget trekker pays US$2,275, about DKK 15,100.

Door to door, with the Copenhagen flight, visa, insurance and tips, one traveller pays about DKK 32,600 to DKK 36,800 on Budget, DKK 34,800 to DKK 38,300 on Standard going solo and DKK 50,300 to DKK 54,150 on Luxury.

Kroner and dollars in one table

One row per person. The flight column gives the lowest and highest Copenhagen fare I found; beside it sit the 30-day visa, insurance, tips and either meals on the trail (Budget) or spending money (Standard, Luxury). Kathmandu hotels cost extra in every tier, and our family homestay is US$15 per person a night, about DKK 100.

On Budget you buy meals as you walk, US$25 to US$40 a day, which makes US$300 to US$480 over 12 days. The two upper tiers include meals, so about NPR 20,000 to 30,000 (US$130 to US$195) goes on showers, charging and snacks. Rupees come from Kathmandu. Your guide receives US$15 to US$20 a day and a porter US$10 to US$15 a day at the end.

Which flights from Copenhagen?

Search settings: economy, one adult, a checked bag, outbound Sunday 25 October 2026, home Wednesday 11 November, one change at most in each direction, one ticket. Fifteen itineraries came back, with Etihad, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines.

The cheapest, DKK 13,623, was Etihad via Abu Dhabi out (Copenhagen 10:15, Kathmandu 09:10 next morning, about 18 hours 10 minutes) and Qatar Airways home via Doha, leaving at 11:05 and landing at 13:30 the next day, about 31 hours 10 minutes. Next at DKK 13,680 came Qatar Airways out via Doha at 15:05, in Kathmandu at 14:35 the next day (about 18 hours 45 minutes), then home on Emirates via Dubai, leaving at 19:40 and landing at 12:30 the next day, about 21 hours 35 minutes.

Qatar out with Thai Airways home via Bangkok was DKK 14,282, and that fare listed a personal item as well as a cabin bag and a checked bag. Emirates out via Dubai (14:45, Kathmandu 14:00 the next day) with a Qatar return was DKK 14,356. If you want a shorter day on the way back, an Emirates flight leaving Kathmandu at 00:30 reaches Copenhagen at 12:30 the same day, about 16 hours 45 minutes, at DKK 14,416 with the Qatar outbound. Turkish Airlines home via Istanbul, leaving at 12:45 and landing at 22:30 the same evening, was DKK 15,028 to DKK 15,215. The dearest was DKK 15,401. I priced Copenhagen only; travellers in Aarhus or Billund should check their own airport.

Visa for a Danish passport

With a Danish passport you pay for the tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport. Immigration lists US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days (about DKK 350) and US$125 for 90 days, each multiple entry and each in US dollars. The online form can be completed before the flight. The blue EU card stops at Europe

The blue European health insurance card is accepted in the EU, EEA and Switzerland. In Nepal it is a piece of plastic. Danish travel insurance usually comes through a separate policy, and some arrive with a home or bank package, but a standard one often stops at a modest altitude. Buy a travel policy at home before you fly; we do not recommend buying one in Nepal.

The policy should state plainly that it covers trekking up to 6,000 metres (Kala Patthar is 5,545 m), helicopter rescue, cover for sickness as well as accidents, and repatriation. Paying for a helicopter yourself, Base Camp to Kathmandu, means US$3,000 to US$5,000, about DKK 20,000 to DKK 33,000. What is in each tier

• Budget: your own bag, shared rooms, meals bought by you, fixed-wing flight to Lukla.
• Standard: every meal, a private room, a porter between two, fixed-wing flight.
• Luxury: a porter of your own, private deluxe ensuite rooms, fruit, nuts and soft drinks, helicopter both ways.

The price covers a licensed guide, every permit (NPR 8,000 in total, roughly US$52), airport transfers and a loaned down jacket and minus 15 sleeping bag. On Standard, going solo, the guide carries up to 10 kg of your gear. On Budget, a solo Everest Base Camp trekker pays US$2,275 instead of US$1,399. Gorak Shep, 5,164 m, is the highest night. Training in a flat country

Denmark's highest natural point is under 175 m, and Himmelbjerget, the famous Sky Mountain, is 147 m, so the only real training is time on your feet. Stair climbing with a loaded pack, long coastal walks on back-to-back days, and cycling for stamina all help. They do not simulate altitude. Lukla is at 2,860 m and the highest night is at 5,164 m, so the two acclimatisation days matter more than any plan. Plan for five to seven hours of walking on most days. Read how fit you need to be.

2 to 4 travellers: Budget DKK 9,300, Standard DKK 18,500, Luxury DKK 33,150 each. 5 to 8 travellers: Budget DKK 8,600, Standard DKK 16,700, Luxury DKK 32,800 each. 9 to 12 travellers: Budget DKK 7,950, Standard DKK 16,400, Luxury DKK 32,500 each. 13 to 20 travellers: Budget DKK 6,600, Standard DKK 16,250, Luxury DKK 32,150 each.

Price per person does not depend on whether you go privately or in a group; the size band is the only factor.

Danish holidays and the Nepali calendar

Maundy Thursday is 25 March 2027, Good Friday 26 March, Easter Monday 29 March, with Ascension Day on Thursday 6 May and Whit Monday on 17 May. Great Prayer Day, which for years gave a spring long weekend, was abolished from 2024, so a trek in late March or April uses ordinary leave. In Nepal, Dashain (17 to 23 October 2026) and Tihar (8 to 12 November) close the offices, and a permit needs 48 hours of government working days.

Danish clocks go back on Sunday 25 October 2026; Nepal is 3 hours 45 minutes ahead of Copenhagen before that and 4 hours 45 minutes after. Autumn fixed-wing flights to Lukla start at Manthali, which means a four to five hour road journey from Kathmandu after a collection time set between midnight and 2 am. Luxury uses a helicopter from Kathmandu, with no drive. A spare day at the end covers weather.

How to pay

A 10 per cent deposit secures the trek, and the balance is paid in Kathmandu in US dollars or euros, cash being free and cards carrying 3.5 per cent. Danish kroner and Nepali rupees are not accepted. You may move the trek free to any date within a year if we hear 72 hours ahead (a week for anything in Tibet, Kailash or a restricted area). If you cancel instead, the deposit is lost and nothing else is refunded. If we cannot run it, you get back what you paid minus taxes, bank or card charges and sums already spent.
