Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Norway: Prices in NOK and EUR, Flights, Visa and Insurance

What does Everest Base Camp cost from Oslo? The trek is easy to state: the 12-day itinerary is US$1,399 per person on Budget, US$2,499 on Standard and US$4,999 on Luxury for groups of one to four, about NOK 13,400, NOK 23,900 and NOK 47,800, and that does not change in 2027. The Everest Holiday became a registered company in Kathmandu in 2016, and the guiding behind it spans three generations of one family.

The rest depends on the flight. A traveller leaving Oslo should expect about NOK 35,700 to NOK 45,500 in total on Budget, NOK 44,600 to NOK 53,300 on Standard travelling alone and NOK 69,700 to NOK 79,000 on Luxury, with the visa, insurance and tips included.

Oslo to Kathmandu: what a ticket costs

Search settings: economy, one adult, a checked bag, leaving Sunday 25 October 2026, back Wednesday 11 November, one change at most each way, one ticket. Ten itineraries came back and none was nonstop.

The cheapest, NOK 16,793, put you on Emirates via Dubai (Oslo 14:00, Kathmandu 14:00 the next day, about 19 hours 15 minutes, because of a long wait in Dubai) and brought you home on Qatar Airways through Doha: leaving Kathmandu at 11:05, landing in Oslo at 13:30 the next day, about 31 hours 10 minutes. Choosing the Emirates flight that reaches Kathmandu at 08:20 (about 13 hours 35 minutes) with the same return was NOK 17,353.

Qatar Airways out via Doha (Oslo 09:00, Kathmandu 14:35 the next day, about 24 hours 50 minutes) was NOK 17,706 with Thai Airways home via Bangkok, which leaves Kathmandu at 00:25 on 11 November and reaches Oslo at 07:05 on 12 November, about 35 hours 25 minutes. That fare listed a personal item as well as a cabin and a checked bag. The same Qatar outbound with Turkish Airlines home via Istanbul, about 26 hours 30 minutes, was NOK 20,101. Turkish out via Istanbul (Oslo 18:20, Kathmandu 11:20, about 12 hours 15 minutes) with a Qatar return was NOK 21,443, and with Thai home NOK 23,080. The day's range was therefore NOK 16,793 to NOK 23,080. I priced Oslo only, so travellers in Bergen or Trondheim should search their own airport.

The Norwegian all-in table

One person per row. Under flights you see the lowest and highest Oslo fare; the column after it totals the 30-day visa, insurance, tips and either trail meals (Budget) or spending money (Standard and Luxury). Kathmandu hotels are not included in any tier; our own homestay is US$15 per person a night, about NOK 100.

Budget trekkers cover their own meals at US$25 to US$40 a day, US$300 to US$480 in all. Standard and Luxury include them, so between NPR 20,000 and 30,000 (US$130 to US$195) will cover showers, charging, wifi and snacks. The machines in Namche are often empty, so withdraw rupees in Kathmandu. Tip a guide US$15 to US$20 a day and a porter US$10 to US$15.

Visa for Norwegian passports

The tourist visa is bought after landing at Kathmandu airport. Immigration prices a multiple-entry visa at US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days (about NOK 500) and US$125 for 90 days, always in US dollars. Complete the online form first if you like, and print the receipt. The passport needs six months left, and a photo is required. Why the European health card is no use here

The European health insurance card from HELFO works in the EU and EEA, which is not where you are going. Norwegian travel cover often arrives with a home contents policy or a bank card, and those rarely stretch to 6,000 metres or to a helicopter. Buy a proper travel policy in Norway before you fly; we do not recommend buying insurance in Nepal.

Ask for four things in writing: trekking up to 6,000 metres (Kala Patthar is 5,545 m), helicopter rescue, illness cover (not only accident cover), and repatriation. An uninsured helicopter ride from Base Camp to Kathmandu comes to US$3,000 to US$5,000, or about NOK 28,500 to NOK 48,000. The three tiers

Budget: carry your own pack, share rooms, pay for meals, fixed-wing flight to Lukla. Standard: all meals, private rooms, one porter for two trekkers. Luxury: a porter of your own, deluxe ensuite rooms, fruit, nuts, soft drinks and a helicopter to Lukla and back. Every tier brings a licensed guide, the three permits (NPR 3,000 + 3,000 + 2,000), airport transfers, and a loaned down jacket and sleeping bag rated to minus 15. Does Jotunheimen count as training?

Galdhøpiggen, Norway's highest mountain at 2,469 m, is below Lukla (2,860 m), so Norwegian hills build legs but not lungs. Heavy day-pack walks on consecutive days are the best preparation, and the itinerary adds two acclimatisation days for the altitude. Expect five to seven hours on foot most days. Norwegian holidays and timing

Maundy Thursday is 25 March 2027, Good Friday 26 March and Easter Monday 29 March, a block that suits spring. In 2027 Monday 17 May is both Constitution Day and Whit Monday, and Ascension Day is Thursday 6 May, so May is full of long weekends. Nepal shuts its offices for Dashain (17 to 23 October 2026) and Tihar (8 to 12 November), and a permit needs 48 hours of government working days.

On Sunday 25 October 2026 Norwegian clocks go back. Until then Nepal is 3 hours 45 minutes ahead of Oslo, and 4 hours 45 minutes afterwards. In the autumn season, fixed-wing flights to Lukla go from Manthali, not Kathmandu: four to five hours by road, collected between midnight and 2 am. On Luxury you fly by helicopter from Kathmandu and avoid the drive. Plan for a spare day at the end.

Payment from Norway

Ten per cent of the price confirms your dates. The rest is payable in Kathmandu in US dollars or euros, by cash with no extra charge or by card with 3.5 per cent added. Norwegian kroner and Nepali rupees cannot be accepted. We move you free to any date within a year provided you tell us 72 hours before; Tibet, Kailash and restricted-area trips need seven full days. The deposit itself is not refunded if you cancel. If we cannot run the trek ourselves, you are refunded what you paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and money already spent.
