Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Italy: Euro Prices, Flights, Visa and Insurance

Last updated 7 October 2026. The fares come from a search for Rome Fiumicino return trips run on 7 October 2026. Euro figures use US$1 = EUR 0.887, the European Central Bank reference rate of 6 October 2026, which moves from day to day. Dollars or euros are what you pay us.

Rome has no nonstop flight to Kathmandu. What the search gave me instead was fifteen itineraries that change planes once, and the cheapest of them, EUR 873, hides a journey home through Chengdu that takes almost 24 hours. Fares, visa, insurance and the Italian holiday calendar are all below, with the trek itself priced to the dollar.

The Everest Holiday was registered in Kathmandu in 2016, and three generations of my family have guided before and since. For one to four trekkers the 12-day Base Camp trek is charged per person at US$1,399 (about EUR 1,240) on Budget, US$2,499 (about EUR 2,220) on Standard and US$4,999 (about EUR 4,440) on Luxury. Nothing changes for 2027. Add the Fiumicino fare, the visa, insurance and tips, and a lone traveller spends about EUR 2,630 to EUR 3,480 on Budget, EUR 3,450 to EUR 4,200 on Standard and EUR 5,780 to EUR 6,580 on Luxury.

The Italian all-in table, in euros

The table covers one traveller. Fares span the cheapest and dearest Fiumicino ticket in the search, and the column before the total holds the 30-day visa, insurance, tips and, for Budget only, meals on the trail. Kathmandu hotels are quoted separately in every tier; our family homestay is US$15 per person per night, about EUR 10.

Food on the trail is your own bill only on Budget: allow US$25 to US$40 per day, which is US$300 to US$480 across 12 days. Standard and Luxury have meals inside the price, so what remains is pocket money for hot showers, device charging, wifi and snacks; somewhere between NPR 20,000 and 30,000 (US$130 and US$195) does it. Withdraw rupees in Kathmandu, as the cash machines on the trail are unreliable. Lead guides are tipped US$15 to US$20 a day, and porters US$10 to US$15 a day, when the trek ends.

Fiumicino to Kathmandu, fare by fare

Search settings: economy class, one adult, a checked bag, outbound on Sunday 25 October 2026, return on Wednesday 11 November, a maximum of one change per direction, everything on a single ticket. None of the fifteen itineraries was nonstop, and none relied on a self-made connection.

The cheapest, EUR 873, was Air Arabia out of Rome at 22:00 via Sharjah, landing in Kathmandu at 21:40 the next evening (about 18 hours 55 minutes), with Sichuan Airlines home via Chengdu. That return leaves Kathmandu at 11:45 and reaches Rome at 06:40 the following day, about 23 hours 40 minutes. Taking an earlier onward flight from Sharjah on the same outbound ticket, landing at 13:50, cost EUR 878 and saved nearly eight hours.

Air Arabia both ways ran EUR 905 to EUR 910, and the flight home, leaving at 23:45, lands in Rome at 19:55 the next evening. If you want a faster journey back, Air India through Delhi was EUR 948 to EUR 998: the 07:35 departure arrives in Rome at 18:55 the same day, about 16 hours, and the 10:05 takes about 13 hours 35 minutes.

The big carriers cost more. Emirates via Dubai (14:55 out of Rome, in Kathmandu at 08:20, 12 hours 40 minutes) was EUR 1,244 to EUR 1,360, and Etihad via Abu Dhabi was EUR 1,275 to EUR 1,391. The Emirates and Etihad results listed a cabin bag and a checked bag but no personal item, while the Air Arabia ones listed all three. That gives a range for the day of EUR 873 to EUR 1,391. Visa for an Italian passport

Italians need arrange nothing in advance. At Kathmandu airport you pay the Department of Immigration for a multiple-entry tourist visa: US$30 covers 15 days, US$50 covers 30 days (about EUR 40) and US$125 covers 90 days, always in US dollars. Completing the online form before departure saves time at the desk, and you keep the receipt. Take a photo and a passport valid for about six months. What the Tessera Sanitaria does not cover

The health card from Italy's national health service, with its European (TEAM) side, is valid in the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, and it is worth nothing in Nepal. You need a private travel policy from Italy, bought before you leave; we do not recommend buying one in Nepal.

Check the wording for walking up to 6,000 metres (Kala Patthar is 5,545 m), for helicopter rescue, for illness and not only injury, and for repatriation. Policies written for ordinary European holidays often stop at 3,000 or 4,000 metres. Members of the Club Alpino Italiano should ask the club, in writing, what its member cover pays outside Europe and up to which altitude. If you have to pay yourself, budget US$3,000 to US$5,000, which is about EUR 2,650 to EUR 4,450, for the helicopter lift from Base Camp to Kathmandu. What each tier actually gives you

Budget means you carry your own pack, share rooms and pay for your meals, and you fly to Lukla on a fixed-wing plane. Standard includes every meal, a private room and one porter for each pair of trekkers. Luxury adds a porter just for you, deluxe ensuite rooms, fruit, nuts and unlimited soft drinks, and a helicopter to Lukla and back. All three include a licensed guide, the three park and trekking permits (NPR 3,000, 3,000 and 2,000), airport transfers and a borrowed down jacket and sleeping bag rated to minus 15. Standard for a solo traveller has no porter, so the guide carries up to 10 kg of your things. There is no single supplement on Standard or Luxury because the guide meets you in Lukla. Are you fit enough?

Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Apennines at 2,912 m, is only a little above Lukla (2,860 m), where your walk begins. Gran Paradiso is 4,061 m, and the Capanna Regina Margherita on Monte Rosa, the highest hut in Europe, is 4,554 m. Gorak Shep, where you sleep at 5,164 m, is above all of them. The route is strenuous, with five to seven walking hours on most days and two acclimatisation days inside the 12. Private and group trips cost the same per person; the one thing that moves the price is how many of you there are.

Fitting Nepal into the Italian calendar

Easter Monday (Pasquetta) is 29 March 2027, with Easter on 28 March, so the second half of March opens the spring window, and the rhododendrons arrive in April. The 25 April holiday is a Sunday and 1 May a Saturday in 2027, so neither gives a bridge, and 2 June is a Wednesday, close to the monsoon. For autumn, 8 December is a Tuesday and Monday 7 December is the bridge, but the Khumbu is cold by then. On the Nepali side, Dashain (17 to 23 October 2026) and Tihar (8 to 12 November) shut the offices; a permit needs 48 hours of government working days.

Italian clocks go back on Sunday 25 October; after that Nepal is 4 hours 45 minutes ahead, and before it 3 hours 45 minutes. In the autumn peak the fixed-wing flights to Lukla leave from Manthali rather than Kathmandu: the road takes four to five hours and the pick-up is set for sometime between midnight and 2 am. Luxury guests skip the drive on the helicopter from Kathmandu. Keep one spare day at the end in case weather holds the Lukla flight.

Paying from Italy

Here is how paying works. A 10 per cent deposit goes on your booking, and in Kathmandu you settle the rest in US dollars or euros, by cash (no surcharge) or by card (3.5 per cent extra); an Italian bank may add its own foreign fee. We take no Nepali rupees from foreign clients. You can move free to any date within a year, provided you give three days' warning (Tibet, Kailash and restricted-area trips need a full week). If you cancel yourself instead, the deposit is not refunded and nothing comes back. Should we be the ones unable to run the trek, we repay what you paid after deducting taxes, bank and card charges and anything already spent on permits and flights.

Who helps an Italian in Nepal

Italy has no embassy in Nepal. According to the Farnesina country sheet, the Consulate General in Kolkata is the competent office for Nepal, and there is an honorary consulate in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, for emergencies. Check us before you pay

The company was registered in 2016 and holds Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal number 1586. Over 300 travellers have reviewed us on TripAdvisor, Google and Trustpilot. The company registrar, TAAN, the tourism licence and the forex certificate are public, so look all four up. No licence settles the question, since licensed operators have been caught up in scams too, and for that reason I would ask for a video call before sending any deposit.
