What does the Everest Base Camp trek cost from Turkey? Trek prices in US dollars and lira, a snapshot of flights from Istanbul, the visa, insurance and the full cost for one person.

Last updated 10 October 2026. Trek prices come from our own booking system. Lira amounts are converted at the European Central Bank reference rate of 9 October 2026 (1 euro = 1.1206 US dollars = 55.10 Turkish lira), which makes 1 US dollar about 49.17 lira. Flight fares are one day's snapshot, so check before you buy.

Short answer: the 12-day Everest Base Camp trek costs US$1,399 on Budget, US$2,499 on Standard and US$4,999 on Luxury per person, which is about TRY 68,800, TRY 122,900 and TRY 245,800. A return flight from Istanbul for 18 April to 5 May 2027 cost between TRY 38,249 and TRY 39,814 in my search, and the visa is US$50. For one person on Budget, with the visa and trail meals, the total comes to about TRY 124,300 to TRY 134,700, before insurance and tips.

The question from Istanbul, Ankara or Izmir is the same as anywhere else: what does Everest Base Camp cost in lira, door to door? The trek price I can give you to the dollar. The flight I can only show as a snapshot. And you pay us in US dollars or euros, so every lira figure below will move with the exchange rate between now and the day you pay.

The route is on our Everest Base Camp Trek, 12 Days page. If you would rather talk, my WhatsApp is +977 9810351300 and I answer it myself.

Is there a nonstop flight from Turkey to Kathmandu?

Turkish Airlines flies Istanbul to Kathmandu: flight TK726 is scheduled to leave Istanbul at 20:25 on 18 April 2027 and land in Kathmandu at 06:05 the next morning, about 6 hours 55 minutes. My fare search did not return a Turkish Airlines price from Istanbul, and a nonstop-only search came back empty, so price that flight on the airline's own site. What the search did return, from both Istanbul airports, was one change of plane through Sharjah on Air Arabia. Nepal is 2 hours 45 minutes ahead of Turkey all year, because neither side changes its clocks.

What did the flights cost on one day?

These are fares searched on 10 October 2026, in lira, return, one adult in economy, leaving on Sunday 18 April 2027 and coming back on Wednesday 5 May, as one ticket with at most one change each way. There were 15 itineraries from TRY 38,249 to TRY 39,814 (about EUR 694 to EUR 723), and every one was Air Arabia through Sharjah. The hours are the total of both directions, waiting time included.

Every fare in the search included a cabin bag, a personal item and one checked bag, which matters for a trekker with boots and a duffel. Sharjah is a different emirate from Dubai, so these planes use Sharjah airport. Istanbul has two airports, and the outbound and the return often use different ones, so work out the transfer before you choose a fare. Do not skip the buffer either: land in Kathmandu a full day before any Lukla flight, and keep a spare day at the end.

What does the trek cost in lira?

Our booking system gives these figures. They apply to 2026 and 2027 departures alike, and one to four people pay the same per person whether the trek is private or a group.

Everest Base Camp, 12 daysUSD per personLira, approximate
BudgetUS$1,399about TRY 68,800
StandardUS$2,499about TRY 122,900
LuxuryUS$4,999about TRY 245,800

The tiers are concrete, so here is what each one means. Budget leaves the bag, the room-sharing and the trail meals to you. Standard pays for every meal, gives you a private room and puts one porter between two trekkers (travelling alone, you have no porter, and the guide takes up to 10 kg). Luxury adds a personal porter, a deluxe room with a bathroom of its own, fruit, nuts and soft drinks without limit, and helicopter flights to Lukla and back in place of the small plane.

A licensed guide, the permits, airport transfers in Kathmandu, teahouse nights and a first aid kit with a pulse oximeter are in the price of every tier. You pay separately for the flight to Nepal, the visa, insurance, tips and Kathmandu hotels, which we quote on their own (the family homestay is US$15 a night per person). Three permits make up roughly NPR 8,000: NPR 3,000 for Sagarmatha National Park, NPR 3,000 for the Khumbu local fee and NPR 2,000 for the TIMS card. We buy them for you and nothing extra appears on your bill. Every line of the price is in our Everest Base Camp cost guide.

What is the whole bill for one person?

One person, twelve days on the trail, flying from Istanbul at the lowest and highest fares above. The extras column adds the 30-day visa and the trail spending: on Budget about US$300 to US$480 for meals (US$25 to US$40 a day), and on Standard and Luxury 20,000 to 30,000 rupees (US$130 to US$195) for showers, charging and snacks, drawn from a cash machine in Kathmandu.

Insurance, tips and Kathmandu hotels are outside these totals on purpose. Tipping is customary and is in no price: plan on US$15 to US$20 a day for your guide and US$10 to US$15 a day for a porter, shared by the group. A hotel in Kathmandu for the nights either side is extra in every tier.

Do Turkish citizens need a visa for Nepal?

Yes, and the process is short. Turkey is not on the list of twelve countries that must apply in advance, so the visa is issued at Kathmandu airport when you land, and your passport needs six months of validity. The fees are US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days (about TRY 2,500) and US$125 for 90 days, paid in US dollars. Almost every Everest trekker needs 30 days, so carry US$50 in cash. The online arrival form saves queue time, and since 17 August 2026 an e-Visa with card payment is also possible; our e-Visa guide explains who can use it.

What insurance do you need?

Arrange it at home before you fly; cover bought in Nepal is not the answer. The wording needs trekking to at least 6,000 metres (Kala Patthar stands at 5,545) and a helicopter evacuation benefit that applies to sickness, not just accidents, since altitude sickness is a sickness. Without it, a helicopter bill is US$3,000 to US$5,000, about TRY 147,500 to TRY 245,900. Ask the insurer to confirm in writing. Our insurance guide lists what to check.

As for an embassy, the published list of foreign missions in Nepal shows Turkey with no resident embassy in Kathmandu and its embassy in New Delhi accredited to Nepal. Ask the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs which mission covers you before you travel, and keep its emergency number with your passport.

How much leave, and when to go in 2027?

The trek is 12 days. From Istanbul you add about two days each way for travel, plus a night or two in Kathmandu at each end, so plan on roughly 17 or 18 days door to door, with a spare day in case the Lukla flight is delayed by weather. Ask your employer how many days you can take in one block. Turkey's 2027 public holidays help: Ramazan Bayrami runs from 9 to 12 March, Kurban Bayrami from 16 to 19 May, 23 April is a Friday and 1 May a Saturday. Check the official announcement for bridge days around the Bayram holidays. Spring in Nepal, from March to May, brings rhododendrons on the lower slopes, and October and November give the clearest air. In 2027 Dashain is expected around 6 to 10 October and Tihar around 29 to 31 October, so a trek starting in November avoids both; our festival calendar has the dates.

A word on altitude. Ararat (Agri Dagi), at 5,137 metres, is the highest peak in Turkey, and Gorak Shep, the highest night on the Everest route, is 5,164 metres. If you have been high on Ararat, you know the feeling, and I would still ask you to keep to the two rest days and the slow pace.

Questions people ask

Can I pay in lira? No, only US dollars or euros. Cash in Kathmandu costs nothing extra and a card adds 3.5 per cent. Lira and rupees cannot be used.

How do I book? A 10 per cent deposit holds your dates and the balance falls due in Kathmandu. Cancel, and the deposit is not returned and nothing is refunded; the free alternative is to move the trek to any date inside a year, with 72 hours of notice.

Is it cheaper in a group? Yes. The discount depends only on how many people are in the party, and the trek page lists the bands.

Can I go alone? Yes. A solo trekker can take a private departure with a licensed guide or join a fixed group departure.
