Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Thailand: Prices in Baht, Nonstop Flights and Visa

Bangkok to Kathmandu is about three and a half hours nonstop on Thai Airways, but the nonstop is not the cheap ticket. The plain connecting fares started near THB 21,000 and the nonstop, in the same search, near THB 34,000. This page works out which is worth it.

The trek itself is a fixed number: US$1,399 on Budget, US$2,499 on Standard and US$4,999 on Luxury, charged to each person in a group of one to four on the 12-day route (about THB 47,000, THB 83,900 and THB 167,800), and 2027 is the same. Once Bangkok flights, a visa, insurance and tips are added, a solo traveller ends up at about THB 87,600 to THB 116,000 on Budget, THB 118,800 to THB 143,400 on Standard and THB 206,800 to THB 233,400 on Luxury.

Bangkok to Kathmandu, nonstop or not

The fares are economy for one adult with a cabin bag and a checked bag, leaving on Sunday 25 October 2026 and returning on Wednesday 11 November, on one ticket with no self-transfer.

The first search allowed one change of plane each way and returned 15 itineraries, from THB 21,127 to THB 24,781. Nine leave Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Six leave Don Mueang (DMK) on Batik Air Malaysia through Kuala Lumpur, from THB 23,097. None of the 15 was nonstop.

The cheapest, THB 21,127, has China Eastern out through Kunming (Bangkok 07:20, Kathmandu 15:05 the same day, about 9 hours) and Air India home through Delhi (Kathmandu 17:10, Bangkok 14:10 the next day, about 19 hours 45 minutes). For THB 21,679 you keep the Kunming outbound and take the 06:30 Air India home instead, which is back in Bangkok at 18:10 the same day. The shortest of the 15 is the Batik Air route from Don Mueang at THB 24,781: out at 13:40, in at 20:35, home on Air India through Delhi at 10:05, landing at 21:15, about 18 hours in total.

I then ran a second search for nonstop flights only. It returned four itineraries, all Thai Airways, at THB 34,172 or THB 37,155. Going out is TG309 (Bangkok 21:15, Kathmandu 23:25) or TG319 (10:15 to 12:25), about 3 hours 25 minutes. Coming home is TG310 (Kathmandu 00:25, Bangkok 05:10, so you leave in the small hours of 11 November) or TG320 (13:30 to 18:15), about 3 hours 30 minutes. The dearer pair is the daytime return, THB 37,155. So the cheapest nonstop costs THB 12,493 more than the THB 21,679 itinerary above, and cuts the journey from about 19 hours 25 minutes to about 7 hours in the air. All 19 results included a cabin bag and a checked bag. I priced Bangkok only, so Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai travellers should check their own airport.

What it adds up to in baht

One person, one trek. The flight column runs from the cheapest connecting fare to the dearest nonstop. The next column holds a 30-day visa, travel insurance, tips and, on Budget, trail meals; on the other two tiers it holds spending money instead. Kathmandu hotels are not in any tier, and our family homestay is US$15 per person a night, about THB 500.

Budget walkers buy their own food on the trail, US$25 to US$40 a day, so US$300 to US$480 over the trek. On Standard and Luxury the food is paid, and you carry 20,000 to 30,000 rupees (US$130 to US$195) for showers, phone charging and snacks, which you can draw in Kathmandu. On the last day, give your guide US$15 to US$20 per day walked and your porter US$10 to US$15 per day.

Entering Nepal on a Thai passport

Nepal's immigration department lists only diplomatic and official Thai passports as exempt from the visa, so an ordinary Thai passport takes the visa on arrival at Tribhuvan airport: US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days or US$125 for 90 days, which is about THB 1,680 for the middle one. Fill in the online form first if you want a shorter queue. The twelve nationalities that must apply before they travel do not include Thailand. Insurance, and the three lines to check

Whatever health cover you hold at home, buy a separate travel policy before you fly, and check three lines in it. It must name trekking to 6,000 metres, because Kala Patthar is 5,545 m and many plans stop at 3,000 or 4,000. It must pay for helicopter evacuation, which costs US$3,000 to US$5,000 (THB 100,700 to THB 167,900) if you pay yourself. And it must cover illness as well as accidents. What each tier gives you

Think of the tiers as three answers to the same two questions: who carries your bag, and who feeds you? On Budget you carry it and you pay for your own meals, in shared rooms, flying to Lukla on the small fixed-wing plane. Standard puts one porter between two trekkers, pays every meal and gives you a private room, though if you travel alone there is no porter and the guide takes up to 10 kg for you. Luxury gives you a porter of your own, a deluxe room with a bathroom, fruit, nuts and as many soft drinks as you like, and swaps the Lukla flight for a helicopter each way. Whatever you choose, the guide, the permits (NPR 3,000, 3,000 and 2,000), the airport transfers and a borrowed down jacket and minus 15 sleeping bag are included. Prices by group size

Private and group trips cost the same per person. Only the headcount moves you between bands.

Clocks and the Nepali calendar

Nepal is 1 hour 15 minutes behind Thailand all year, and neither country changes its clocks. Dashain runs from 17 to 23 October 2026 and Tihar from 8 to 12 November, and Nepali offices close for both; permits take 48 hours counted in government working days. In the busy weeks the small Lukla planes leave from Manthali, a drive of four to five hours with a pick-up between midnight and 2 am, and Luxury trekkers go by helicopter from Kathmandu instead.

How you pay, and what happens if plans change

Ten per cent holds your dates. The rest is paid when you arrive in Kathmandu, in US dollars or euros, and baht are not accepted. Cash adds nothing; a card adds 3.5 per cent. Plans change? You can move the trek to another date within the next year at no charge, with 72 hours' warning (seven days if the route is Tibet, Kailash or a restricted area). If you cancel instead, the deposit and anything else you have paid are not refunded. If we are the ones who cannot run it, you get back everything you paid except taxes, bank and card charges and anything already paid out for permits and flights.
