A verified 2026 cost breakdown for the 10-day Gokyo Lakes trek: tiers from US$1,285 to US$4,332, plus permits, Lukla flights, food, insurance and tips.

The short answer: our 10-day Gokyo Valley Lakes trek costs US$1,285 to US$4,332 per person in 2026, depending on the tier you choose. That makes Gokyo one of the better-value routes in the Khumbu: you get the same permits, the same Lukla flight and the same big-mountain views as the Everest Base Camp crowd, on a trail with a fraction of the traffic.

We are The Everest Holiday, a family-run Kathmandu company operating since 2016. This post covers costs only; if you want the full case for the route, its turquoise lakes and the view from Gokyo Ri, we made it in our Gokyo Lakes trek guide.

What does the Gokyo Lakes trek cost in 2026?

We run the trek in three tiers on the same 10-day itinerary. What changes is food, rooms, staffing and how you reach Lukla.

Tier2026 price (per person)What defines it
BudgetUS$1,285Round-trip Lukla flight, licensed guide, all permits, shared teahouse rooms. Meals on the trail are your own expense. No porter.
StandardUS$2,325Everything above, plus three meals a day with seasonal fruit, better rooms with attached bathroom where possible, and one porter between two trekkers.
LuxuryUS$4,332Helicopter transfers between Kathmandu and Lukla, the best rooms available, all meals plus tea, coffee and soft drinks, hot showers and charging covered, one guide per two trekkers and a personal porter each.

Prices fall for groups: on the Budget tier, two trekkers pay US$1,225 each and a group of five or more pays US$1,199. Every departure is private to your group.

What do the permits cost?

Gokyo sits inside the same permit zone as Everest Base Camp, and both permits are included in every tier of our package:

  • Sagarmatha National Park permit: NPR 3,000 plus VAT, roughly US$25 for foreign nationals.
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee: the local permit that replaced TIMS for most Khumbu itineraries, currently around US$15 to 25.

Under US$50 in total. Permits are not where Khumbu treks get expensive; flights and staffing are.

How much is the Lukla flight?

Around US$250 each way for foreigners at 2026 fares, roughly US$500 return, included in all three tiers. In the busiest autumn and spring weeks, flights often operate from Manthali (Ramechhap), a four-to-five-hour drive from Kathmandu, and our packages include that ground transfer when it applies. Luxury-tier trekkers fly by helicopter both ways and skip the shuffle entirely.

What should I budget for food and lodging on the Gokyo route?

Relevant mainly on the Budget tier, where meals are your own expense. Teahouse prices on the Gokyo side track the main EBC trail closely: the goods arrive on the same yaks.

  • Dal bhat runs NPR 700 to 1,100 depending on altitude; a full day of meals and hot drinks is US$30 to 40 above Namche.
  • Rooms are NPR 500 to 1,000 a night. At Gokyo itself (4,790 m) expect the upper end, and hot showers, charging and Wi-Fi are paid extras everywhere.
  • A realistic on-trail budget is US$35 per day, so about US$300 to 350 for the full trek.

One quiet advantage: with fewer trekkers than the EBC corridor, Gokyo's teahouses rarely hit the bed-scramble that Lobuche and Gorak Shep see in mid-October.

What about gear, insurance and tips?

  • Gear: we provide a duffel bag, down jacket and sleeping bag free of charge. Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) is a pre-dawn climb in any season, so bring proper gloves, a warm hat and good sunglasses; budget US$100 to 300 for anything you still need.
  • Insurance: you need cover for trekking to 6,000 metres including helicopter evacuation, roughly US$120 to 180 for the trip. The upper valley has no road; rescue is by air only.
  • Tips: customary, not compulsory. A common benchmark for a 10-day trek is US$70 to 100 for the guide and US$50 to 70 per porter, pooled by the group.

How does the cost compare with Everest Base Camp?

Like for like, Gokyo is the cheaper trek, mostly because it is two days shorter. Our 12-day EBC package starts at US$1,399 against Gokyo's US$1,285, and the gap holds across tiers. Permits are identical, the flight is identical, and daily food costs are near enough the same. What you give up is standing at base camp itself; what you gain is the lake basin, the Gokyo Ri panorama that many guides quietly prefer to Kala Patthar, and emptier trails. The full arithmetic for the other route is in our EBC cost guide for 2026.

So what does the whole trip total?

StandardUS$2,325~US$70 (drinks, showers)~US$310~US$2,700

International flights, Kathmandu hotel nights and Nepal's US$50 tourist visa are extra on every tier.

How do booking and payment work?

You book with a 10% deposit and pay the balance when you arrive in Kathmandu; that is our standard payment policy on every trek. For autumn 2026, confirm two to three months ahead: Gokyo's trails stay quiet, but the Lukla flights that get you there sell out in October like everything else in the Khumbu. We are family-run with 300+ verified reviews, and we will quote your exact dates and group size with nothing added afterwards.
