This route is for people who want two famous viewpoints, Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri, but do not want to take on the Cho La glacier pass. You walk the classic route to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar first. Then you drop to Pheriche, cross to Phortse and walk up the Gokyo valley to the lakes and Gokyo Ri. It is the gentlest of our three 15-day Everest treks.

If you do want the glacier crossing, read our EBC, Gokyo and Cho La guide and the Cho La package. If you cannot decide between the two viewpoints, see Gokyo Ri or Kala Patthar.

Getting there and what else you pay

You start in Kathmandu. Kathmandu hotels before and after are not in any trek price, so tell us your budget and the hotel standard and we will book it. You also pay for international flights, your Nepal visa (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, USD 125 for 90 days, in cash on arrival), tips, and meals on Budget. Allow about USD 20 a day for personal spending. Buy travel insurance at home that covers helicopter rescue to 6,000 m, because the highest point is Kala Patthar at 5,545 m.

Extra porter days, if you want one on Standard or Budget, are charged on top. Ask me for today's rate.

Deposit is 10% to lock your dates, and you pay the balance in Kathmandu. The deposit is non-refundable. If your plans change we reschedule free to any date within a year with at least 72 hours' notice. If we cannot run the trip, we refund what you paid less taxes, bank charges and money already spent on permits and flights.

Questions people ask

How much does the EBC and Gokyo Ri trek cost?

From USD 1,380 per person on Budget for 2 to 4 people. Standard is USD 3,040 and Luxury USD 5,995. A solo Budget trekker pays USD 2,050.

How many days does EBC with Gokyo Ri take?

15 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu, including a rest day in Namche. It is three days longer than the 12-day EBC trek.

Is this easier than the Three Passes or Cho La route?

Yes. There is no glacier pass crossing. The grade is still strenuous because you reach 5,545 m at Kala Patthar. See EBC or Three Passes if you are weighing the harder option.

Which is better, Gokyo Ri or Kala Patthar?

You get both on this trek. Kala Patthar puts you closest to Everest, and Gokyo Ri adds the lakes and the Ngozumpa glacier below you. We compare them here.

Are flights to Lukla included?

Yes. Budget and Standard use the fixed-wing flight, and Luxury uses a round-trip helicopter.

Do I need a guide for the Everest region?

The Nepal Tourism Board lists a licensed guide and TIMS card as required on most Himalayan routes, including Everest Base Camp and Gokyo. Our price includes both.

What is the best month for EBC with Gokyo Ri?

October and November for the clearest views, or March to May for warmer days and flowers.

How do I book?

Message me on WhatsApp with your dates and group size. You pay a 10% deposit and the rest in Kathmandu.

I started The Everest Holiday in 2016 and my family has guided in the Himalayas for three generations.
