How much does the Mohare Danda trek cost in 2027?
Mohare Danda is a quiet ridge walk above the Kali Gandaki, with sunrise and sunset views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Here is the price first, because that is what you searched for.
| Group size | Budget | Standard | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 person (solo) | USD 1,075 | USD 1,585 | USD 3,215 |
| 2 to 4 people | USD 645 | USD 1,290 | USD 2,015 |
| 5 to 8 people | USD 450 | USD 1,100 | USD 1,775 |
| 9 to 12 people | USD 435 | USD 1,065 | USD 1,570 |
| 13 to 20 people | USD 390 | USD 1,050 | USD 1,510 |
All prices are per person, in US dollars, and include VAT and our service charge. We take USD or EUR, cash or card. A 10% deposit holds the booking and you pay the balance in Kathmandu. Cash in Kathmandu has no fee. A card payment for the balance carries a 3.5% bank charge. If you pay the deposit by card, we absorb the card fee.
The solo price is higher because the guide and the vehicles cost the same for one person as for four. It is the real cost, not a penalty.
What the three tiers actually give you
| Budget | Standard | Luxury | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Porter | None, you carry your own bag | 1 porter for every 2 trekkers, 20 kg between them. Solo: the guide carries up to 10 kg | One dedicated porter each, bag up to 20 kg |
| Meals on the trek | Not included, about USD 20 a day at the lodges | Three meals a day, tea or coffee | Three meals, fruit, nuts, soft drinks and boiled water whenever you want |
| Rooms | Shared in the community lodges | Twin rooms | Best private rooms, attached bathroom where one exists |
| Kathmandu to Pokhara and back | Local shared vehicle | Shared tourist vehicle | Private luxury vehicle |
| Pokhara hotel (2 nights, breakfast) | Tourist hotel | Tourist hotel | Good hotel |
The Budget price is low partly because meals are your own spending. Plan on about USD 20 a day for food at the lodges. Pick Standard if you want to turn up and walk.
What is included and what is not (Standard)
Included: airport pick-up and drop-off, Kathmandu to Pokhara and back by shared tourist vehicle, Pokhara to Beni and Galeshwor and Tiplyang to Tatopani to Pokhara by shared jeep, two nights in a Pokhara tourist hotel with breakfast, four nights in the community lodges, one night in a good lodge at Tatopani, three meals a day on the trek, the Annapurna Conservation Area permit and TIMS card, a licensed English-speaking guide (an assistant guide from 9 trekkers), a sleeping bag, down jacket and duffel bag on loan, a first-aid kit with oximeter, and a trek map.
Not included: Kathmandu hotels and meals, lunch and dinner in Pokhara, international flights, your Nepal visa, travel insurance, hot showers, charging and wifi, drinks other than tea or coffee with meals, and tips. On every tier the hot spring entry at Tatopani is an extra you pay at the gate.
Permits are included, so you pay nothing at the checkpoint. For your information, the Annapurna Conservation Area permit is NPR 3,000 for foreigners and the TIMS card is NPR 2,000. Mohare Danda is an ordinary Annapurna route, so there is no restricted-area permit.
The 8-day itinerary with altitudes
| Day | Route | Sleep | Time and distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kathmandu to Pokhara by road | Pokhara, 820 m | 7 to 8 hours, 210 km |
| 2 | Drive to Beni and Galeshwor, trek to Bans Kharka | Bans Kharka, 1,525 m | 3.5 hours drive, 3 hours walk |
| 3 | Trek to Nangi village | Nangi, 2,300 m | 5 hours, 13 km |
| 4 | Trek to Mohare Danda | Mohare Danda, 3,300 m | 6 hours, 6 km |
| 5 | Sunrise on the ridge, trek to Tikot | Tikot, 2,200 m | 6 hours, 10 km |
| 6 | Walk to Tiplyang, drive to Tatopani hot spring | Tatopani, 1,190 m | 3 hours walk, 1 hour drive |
| 7 | Tatopani to Pokhara | Pokhara, 820 m | 4 to 5 hours, 100 km |
| 8 | Pokhara to Kathmandu | Home | 7 to 8 hours, 210 km |
Day 4 is the long one: about 1,000 m of climbing through rhododendron and bamboo forest to a lodge right on the crest. The descent on day 5 is steep on the knees, so bring poles. On day 3 you walk round Nangi, the village of Mahabir Pun, with its school, organic farm and paper workshop. The money you spend on beds and meals in the community lodges stays in the villages.
Read the full day-by-day in my Mohare Danda trek guide. If you prefer a flight to the second road day, we can book the 25-minute Pokhara to Kathmandu flight for an extra fee.
Getting there and real costs on top
There is no flight on this trek, only long road days at each end. Beyond our price, budget for your Kathmandu hotel (not included), lunch and dinner in Pokhara, your visa and flights, and a tip for your guide and porters. The hot spring gate fee is an extra, and we recommend about USD 20 a day for personal spending on the trail. Mobile signal is patchy, and on the ridge you should not count on any. We give you a Nepali SIM card in Kathmandu.
Is Mohare Danda hard? Altitude and fitness
It is a moderate trek. The high point is 3,300 m, and most walking days are three to six hours. The one demanding day is the climb from Nangi to the ridge, and the steep descent to Tikot the next morning. You need to be comfortable walking uphill for several hours. No technical skill is needed. Tell your guide at once if you get a headache or feel unwell.
Please buy travel insurance at home that covers trekking to 3,500 m and helicopter evacuation. Send us a copy and we will check it fits.
