Jeep road and red cliffs in Upper Mustang

Short answer: our 9-day Upper Mustang jeep tour from Pokhara costs from USD 1,750 per person on Budget for 2 to 4 people. Standard is USD 2,310 and Luxury USD 2,900. The restricted-area permit (USD 250 for 5 days), ACAP, TIMS, jeep and licensed guide are in the price. Pokhara hotels are not. See the jeep tour and dates or message me on WhatsApp.

Updated 4 November 2026. Prices and road notes read from the live package page on 3 November 2026.

Upper Mustang still feels like the Tibetan plateau. This is the short way to see it. You drive from Pokhara up the Kali Gandaki gorge with a night in Tatopani, ride a 4WD jeep on to Lo Manthang, spend three nights in the walled city with a day for the Chhoser caves, and ride back to Pokhara. There is no trekking. It suits you if you have a week, if you do not want to walk for days at altitude, or if you travel with someone who cannot.

If you do want to walk it, read jeep tour or trek and look at our Upper Mustang trek. If you would rather ride yourself, we also run an Upper Mustang motorbike tour.

What the price covers

On Budget you get local shared vehicle seats from Pokhara to Tatopani and from Tatopani to Jomsom, then a 4WD jeep for Jomsom to Lo Manthang, the days around Lo Manthang, and Lo Manthang back to Pokhara. You sleep in shared rooms in simple guesthouses, with one night in Tatopani on the way in. Meals are not included on Budget, so you order and pay at the guesthouses.

Also included: a licensed English-speaking guide experienced in Upper Mustang (one guide for up to 6 guests, a second guide above that), the restricted-area permit, the Annapurna Conservation Area permit, the TIMS card, government taxes, a first aid kit and a pulse oximeter checked daily. Please see the package page for the exact Standard and Luxury lists.

Not included: international flights, your Nepal visa (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, cash on arrival), meals and drinks on Budget outside the farewell dinner, travel insurance, tips, hot showers and charging, and Tatopani hot-spring entry. The two Pokhara hotel nights (before day 1 and on day 8) are also not included. We can book a 3-star Pokhara room at USD 100 per room-night as an add-on. A solo traveller pays for the whole room.

The road and flights right now

Scheduled Pokhara to Jomsom flights stopped on 19 to 21 October 2026 for about five months. So for now we drive the whole way from Pokhara and sleep in Tatopani on the way in. When scheduled flights restart, expected around spring 2027, we go back to flying in and the trip is one day shorter. The Beni to Jomsom road was damaged in the September 2026 floods and is open again after repairs (open to vehicles as of 14 October 2026). The Myagdi section takes three to four hours instead of about one (checked 26 October 2026). We check the road 48 hours before departure. If we cannot go, we move your dates free of charge.
