Annapurna Base Camp trek altitude chart and route, Nepal

Updated 4 November 2026.

Short answer: The Annapurna Base Camp route climbs from Pokhara by car to Nayapul, then on foot through Ghandruk (1,940 m), Chomrong (2,170 m) and Deurali (3,174 m) to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m. You come back down a different way, through Bamboo and Jhinu Danda. On our 9-day plan the trek runs from day 2 to day 8, with a drive at each end. It costs from USD 645 Budget, USD 1,345 Standard and USD 2,065 Luxury per person for two to four people.

I am Shreejan, and I run The Everest Holiday with my family, three generations of family guides. This is the plan we use on our own 9-day Annapurna Base Camp trek. It shows where you sleep every night, with the height of each stop taken straight from our itinerary. Our 9-day Annapurna Base Camp trek page has the full inclusions, or message me on WhatsApp at +977 9810351300.

Annapurna Base Camp 9-day trek altitude chart: height reached each day

I drew this chart myself from our current itinerary. A missing point means the itinerary gives no height there, and I do not guess. Triangles mark passes and viewpoints. The table below uses the same figures.

What a map does not show

The big thing a map hides is the shape of day 3 to day 6. You climb from Chomrong to Deurali on day 4, a long day of about seven hours, and the next morning the walk to Base Camp is only two to three hours. Day 6 is the hard one on your knees, because you drop from 4,130 m to Bamboo at 2,310 m in one go. The chart shows it as a cliff.

The way in and the way out are not the same. You go up through Chomrong and come down through Bamboo and Jhinu Danda, which is a good place to stop on day 7 and rest tired legs.

Our itinerary does not give a height for Machhapuchhre Base Camp, so I have left it off the chart rather than guess. Ask your guide on the day and he will tell you.

Annapurna Base Camp 9-day trek map questions

How far is it from Pokhara to Annapurna Base Camp?

The walking runs from day 2 to day 8 in our plan, about 7 to 19 km on the longer days. The longest day is day 6, from Base Camp down to Bamboo, at 15 to 19 km.

What is the height of Annapurna Base Camp?

4,130 m on our itinerary. It is the highest point of the trek, and you sleep there on day 5.

Where does the Annapurna Base Camp trek start?

Our trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, then a drive on day 2 to Nayapul, where the walking begins towards Ghandruk.

Is the route the same up and down?

No. You go up through Ghandruk, Chomrong and Deurali, and come down through Bamboo and Jhinu Danda to Nayapul.

How much altitude do I need to insure for?

The highest point is 4,130 m, so your insurance should cover helicopter rescue to at least 4,500 m. Please buy it in your home country.

Do I need a paper map or GPS app?

Not with us. A licensed guide walks with you on every tier. An offline map app is still nice to have.

Can I do the trek in fewer days?

Yes. We also run a shorter version from Pokhara. My piece on the 7-day version explains what you give up.
