Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Ireland: Euro Prices, Flights, Visa and Insurance

Last updated 7 October 2026. Fares were checked on 7 October 2026 for return trips out of Dublin (DUB). Converting dollars to euros, I used EUR 0.887 per US dollar, the European Central Bank's reference rate for 6 October 2026, and that moves every day. Payment to us can be in euros or in US dollars.

Irish travellers have a small advantage: euros are one of the two currencies we take, so you pay in your own money. No nonstop flight turned up from Dublin, and the fares in my search ran from EUR 1,661 to EUR 2,036, all with a change in the Gulf or Istanbul.

In euros, the 12-day Everest Base Camp trek is EUR 1,240 on Budget, EUR 2,470 on Standard and EUR 4,440 on Luxury per person for two to four trekkers (that is US$1,399, US$2,785 and US$4,999). A solo Budget trekker pays US$2,275, about EUR 2,020. Nothing changes for 2027. With a Dublin return, the visa, insurance and tips, one traveller should budget about EUR 4,190 to EUR 4,890 on Budget, EUR 4,490 to EUR 5,100 on Standard alone and EUR 6,570 to EUR 7,220 on Luxury.

What Dublin returned

Details of the search: one adult, economy, a bag in the hold, out 25 October 2026 (Sunday), back 11 November (Wednesday), one ticket, and a maximum of one connection per direction. There were 15 itineraries.

The cheapest, EUR 1,661, was Etihad out via Abu Dhabi (Dublin 08:05, Abu Dhabi 19:30, then the 03:10 flight, landing in Kathmandu at 09:10 on 26 October, about 19 hours 20 minutes) and Qatar Airways home through Doha. The return leaves Kathmandu at 11:05 and reaches Dublin at 06:00 the next morning, about 24 hours 55 minutes. A later Etihad departure at the same fare (19:45) arrives on 27 October. Those Etihad results list a cabin bag and a checked bag but no personal item.

Etihad out with Turkish Airlines home via Istanbul (arriving Dublin at 09:35 the next day) was EUR 1,795. Turkish out with Qatar home started at EUR 1,796: Dublin 06:10, Istanbul 13:45, then the 01:30 flight to Kathmandu at 11:20, about 23 hours 25 minutes. A 16:35 Turkish departure from Dublin cut that outbound to about 13 hours at EUR 1,903. The quickest way home was Emirates via Dubai (09:20 from Kathmandu, 18:55 in Dublin the same day, about 15 hours 20 minutes) at EUR 1,923. Qatar Airways out via Doha with Turkish home was EUR 1,992, and Etihad out with an evening Qatar flight home was EUR 2,036.

The all-in total in euros

The table is for one traveller. Fares are shown from the lowest to the highest in the results; extras are a 30-day visa, insurance, tips, and meals on Budget or spending money on the other tiers. The price of a Kathmandu hotel is not included in any tier. Our family homestay is US$15 a night per person, about EUR 13.

Budget travellers buy their own meals, which comes to roughly US$25 to US$40 a day (US$300 to US$480 for the 12 days). Standard and Luxury include them, so you only need cash for showers, charging and snacks: 20,000 to 30,000 rupees, about US$130 to US$195, taken out in Kathmandu. A guide's tip is US$15 to US$20 a day, and a porter's is US$10 to US$15.

An Irish passport at Kathmandu

Ireland is not among the twelve countries whose citizens must apply before arriving. A 15-day visa is US$30, a 30-day visa is US$50 (about EUR 45) and a 90-day visa is US$125. Dollars are the only currency, and entry is multiple. Bring a photo and a passport with six months of validity, and fill the online form in advance if you wish. More in the visa on arrival guide.

The European Health Insurance Card does not reach Nepal

An EHIC is for the European Economic Area and Switzerland, so a private travel policy is essential, bought in Ireland before you go. Check that it covers walking to 6,000 m (Kala Patthar is 5,545 m), helicopter evacuation, which costs US$3,000 to US$5,000 (about EUR 2,650 to EUR 4,450) if you pay yourself, and illness as well as injury. If you need Irish help in Nepal

Ireland has no embassy in Kathmandu. The Department of Foreign Affairs lists an honorary consul there, and the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi handles consular matters for Nepal. Its Nepal travel advice at dfa.ie is worth reading before you book.

The three tiers

If you start at Budget, you carry your own bag, share rooms, pay for meals, and fly to Lukla on a fixed-wing plane. Move to Standard and every meal is paid, the room is private and a porter carries for two trekkers. Choose Luxury and you have your own porter, a deluxe private room with a bathroom, fruit, nuts, unlimited soft drinks and the helicopter to Lukla and back. All three have a licensed guide, the three permits (NPR 3,000, 3,000 and 2,000), airport pick-ups and a borrowed down jacket and minus 15 sleeping bag. On Standard alone, no porter, and the guide carries up to 10 kg. On Budget, a solo Everest Base Camp trekker pays US$2,275 instead of US$1,399. Kathmandu hotels are charged on their own. Carrauntoohil to Gorak Shep

Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest peak, is 1,038 m, and Croagh Patrick is 764 m. Lukla, where the trek begins, is 2,860 m, and the highest night, at Gorak Shep, is 5,164 m, about five times Carrauntoohil. The days are five to seven hours of walking, with two acclimatisation days within the 12. Hill days in all weather with a loaded pack, several in a row, are the best practice you can get at home. Group prices in euros

2 to 4 travellers: Budget EUR 1,240, Standard EUR 2,470, Luxury EUR 4,440 each. 5 to 8 travellers: Budget EUR 1,150, Standard EUR 2,235, Luxury EUR 4,390 each. 9 to 12 travellers: Budget EUR 1,060, Standard EUR 2,190, Luxury EUR 4,350 each. 13 to 20 travellers: Budget EUR 890, Standard EUR 2,175, Luxury EUR 4,300 each.

Whether the trip is private or a group, the price per person is the same. The number in your party is what moves the band.

Leave, clocks and bank holidays

Irish clocks go back on Sunday 25 October 2026, so Nepal is 4 hours 45 minutes ahead before that and 5 hours 45 minutes after it, until Irish clocks go forward on 28 March 2027. The Organisation of Working Time Act gives four working weeks of annual leave. The October bank holiday is Monday 26 October 2026. For spring, St Patrick's Day is Wednesday 17 March 2027, Easter Monday is 29 March and the May bank holiday is Monday 3 May. Look at Nepal's calendar too. Dashain falls on 17 to 23 October 2026 and Tihar on 8 to 12 November, when offices are closed; a permit needs 48 hours of government working days. In the busy months the flights to Lukla in fixed-wing planes start from Manthali, four to five hours by road from Kathmandu, with a pick-up between midnight and 2 am. Luxury guests use the helicopter from Kathmandu.

Paying from Ireland

What you pay and when: 10 per cent now, the rest in Kathmandu. Dollars or euros only; cash is free of any surcharge and a card costs 3.5 per cent more. We cannot accept rupees. What happens if plans change: if you would rather move, any date within a year is free with 72 hours' notice (seven days for Tibet, Kailash and restricted areas); if you cancel instead, no refund is due and the deposit stays. If we cancel, we return what you paid after taking out taxes, bank and card charges and the cost of permits and flights already spent. Your Irish bank may add a foreign-currency fee for a card.
