Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Vietnam: Prices in VND, Flights and Visa

Last updated 7 October 2026. Fares are for Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), checked on 7 October 2026 and priced in US dollars. Dong figures use a market rate of about VND 25,900 to the US dollar on 7 October and move daily. You pay us in dollars or euros.

From Vietnam there is no nonstop to Kathmandu, and the cheapest tickets are the slowest. The page below shows what each saves and what each costs you in hours.

Budget US$1,399, Standard US$2,785, Luxury US$4,999: that is the per-person price of the 12-day trek for parties of two to four, or about VND 36,000,000, VND 72,000,000 and VND 130,000,000, and it holds for 2027. A solo Budget trekker pays US$2,275, about VND 58,900,000. Fold in the Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City flight, the visa, insurance and tips and the totals become VND 98,900,000 to VND 116,400,000, VND 107,700,000 to VND 122,200,000 (Standard, alone) and VND 168,400,000 to VND 184,400,000.

Flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

Search settings were economy, a single adult, a cabin bag plus a checked bag, outbound Sunday 25 October 2026, return Wednesday 11 November, no self-transfer, one change at most each way.

The fares here are priced in US dollars. I searched Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) separately, with one change each way. Hanoi returned 15 itineraries from US$999 to US$1,193. Ho Chi Minh City returned 15 from US$965 to US$1,267. None of the 30 was nonstop, and a nonstop-only search for each city returned nothing.

From Hanoi the lowest fare, US$999, is IndiGo out through Mumbai (Hanoi 19:05, Kathmandu 13:45 on 26 October, about 19 hours 55 minutes) and Sichuan Airlines home through Chengdu (Kathmandu 11:45, Hanoi 22:00, about 9 hours). For US$1,020 China Eastern flies out through Kunming and reaches Kathmandu at 15:05 the same day, about 7 hours 20 minutes after leaving Hanoi at 09:00. With the same Sichuan Airlines return, that is the shortest of the Hanoi results at about 16 hours 20 minutes in total.

From Ho Chi Minh City the cheapest, US$965, goes out with Sichuan Airlines through Chengdu and waits overnight there (Saigon 09:00, landing in Kathmandu at 10:30 on 26 October, about 26 hours 45 minutes), then comes home on China Eastern with a night in Kunming, about 49 hours 25 minutes in total. The same outbound with the 23:40 Kunming connection was US$966, about 35 hours in total. The quicker ones: Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong out (Saigon 11:45, Kathmandu 21:30, about 11 hours) with Sichuan Airlines home was US$1,100, about 21 hours in total, and Air India through Delhi out was US$1,106.

The full bill in dong

Everything here is per person. The ticket column goes from the cheapest of my results to the dearest. Add a 30-day visa, travel insurance and tips, plus meals on Budget or pocket money on Standard and Luxury, and you have the extras column. Hotels in Kathmandu are charged on top, and our family homestay is US$15 a night per person, about VND 390,000. The ticket column converts the cheapest of the 30 itineraries (US$965) and the dearest (US$1,267) at the rate above.

Meals cost extra only on Budget, at US$25 to US$40 daily, which means US$300 to US$480 across the trek. Standard and Luxury include them, and you carry 20,000 to 30,000 rupees (US$130 to US$195) for showers, charging and snacks, drawn in Kathmandu. The guide's tip is US$15 to US$20 a day and a porter's is US$10 to US$15.

Entering Nepal with a Vietnamese passport

Nepal exempts only diplomatic and official Vietnamese passports from the visa, so an ordinary one gets the visa on arrival: US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days (about VND 1,300,000) or US$125 for 90 days. There is also an online route. The twelve nationalities that must apply beforehand do not include Vietnam. Details are in the visa on arrival guide and e-visa guide. The Vietnamese embassy in New Delhi is accredited to Nepal.

Insurance

Your insurance should say three things clearly. It covers trekking up to 6,000 m, since Kala Patthar is 5,545 m. It pays for a rescue helicopter, which is US$3,000 to US$5,000 (about VND 78,000,000 to VND 130,000,000) out of your own pocket. And it covers sickness, not only injury. Buy it at home. What you get in each tier

In one breath: Budget is own bag, own meals, shared rooms, fixed-wing flight; Standard is all meals, a private room and a porter for each pair (not for a solo traveller, whose bag the guide carries, up to 10 kg); Luxury is a porter each, deluxe rooms with a bathroom, fruit, nuts, unlimited soft drinks and helicopters to Lukla and back. The licensed guide, the permits (NPR 3,000, 3,000 and 2,000), airport transfers and a borrowed down jacket and minus 15 sleeping bag belong to all three. 2 to 4 travellers: Budget VND 36,000,000, Standard VND 72,000,000, Luxury VND 130,000,000 each. 5 to 8 travellers: Budget VND 34,000,000, Standard VND 65,000,000, Luxury VND 128,000,000 each. 9 to 12 travellers: Budget VND 31,000,000, Standard VND 64,000,000, Luxury VND 127,000,000 each. 13 to 20 travellers: Budget VND 26,000,000, Standard VND 63,000,000, Luxury VND 126,000,000 each.

From Fansipan to Gorak Shep

Fansipan, Vietnam's highest peak, stands at just over 3,100 m, a good deal lower than the Everest trek's highest night at Gorak Shep, 5,164 m. Lukla, where the walking starts, is at 2,860 m. Plan on five to seven hours of walking on most days, with two rest days among the 12, and train with stairs and loaded walks. The fitness guide is how fit you need to be.

Calendar and clocks

Nepal is 1 hour 15 minutes behind Vietnam all year. Lunar New Year (Tet) 2027 begins on 6 February, so a trek in spring 2027 is easier to plan for the weeks after it. Plan around Nepal's two big festivals, Dashain (17 to 23 October 2026) and Tihar (8 to 12 November), when government offices are closed and permits take 48 hours of government working days. If the Lukla flights are full they go from Manthali instead, a road journey of four to five hours from the capital, with a pick-up between midnight and 2 am. Luxury avoids this with a helicopter from Kathmandu.

How to pay

Pay 10 per cent to book and the balance in Kathmandu in US dollars or euros, in cash, which carries no surcharge, or by card, which adds 3.5 per cent. Dong are not accepted. A free change to another date within 12 months is possible with 72 hours' notice (seven days for Tibet, Kailash and restricted areas). If you cancel instead, the deposit is not refunded and neither is anything else you paid. If we cancel, we return your payments minus taxes, bank and card charges and permit and flight money already spent.
