Everest Base Camp trek cost from Slovakia: trek prices in dollars and euros, Vienna and Bratislava to Kathmandu fares and journey times, the visa, paying in euros and the best month.

Last updated 14 October 2026.

Short answer: A Slovak traveller pays USD 1,399 (Budget), USD 2,499 (Standard) or USD 4,999 (Luxury) for the 12 days on our Everest Base Camp Trek, 12 days page. In euros that is about EUR 1,250, EUR 2,232 or EUR 4,465, using the ECB reference rate of 14 October 2026 (1 USD = 0.89326 EUR). The flight costs almost as much as the Budget trek. The cheapest return with a checked bag that I found was EUR 911 from Vienna, flying out on 10 April and back on 28 April 2027. One person on Budget should set aside roughly EUR 2,350 to 2,450, without Kathmandu hotels, insurance or tips. Standard comes to about EUR 3,190 and Luxury to about EUR 5,420.

I am Shreejan. Slovak travellers who write to me usually ask four things: which airport to fly from, how long the journey really is, whether euros are fine for the balance, and which month to choose. Here are the answers, with the figures I checked today and a note where I do not know.

How much is the Everest Base Camp trek from Slovakia in euros?

The trip page has the full inclusion list: guide, permits, flights to Lukla and lodge nights. Kathmandu hotels are in no tier at all, so tell me your budget and I will book them. A group of five to eight gets a lower price per head, while one traveller simply pays the 1 to 4 rate with no extra surcharge. Standard porters are shared, one between two trekkers, which means someone alone on Standard has no porter and the guide takes up to 10 kg of the bag. If you want a porter for yourself, he costs USD 25 a day, and the 13 per cent VAT and 3.5 per cent bank charge come on top of that. The euro figures use the ECB reference rate from Frankfurter, dated 14 October 2026. Treat the dollar figures as the real price and the euro figures as a guide, because you settle in either currency. Starting from Bratislava instead of Vienna adds about EUR 60 on the cheapest return I found.

How long is the journey from Bratislava or Vienna to Kathmandu?

Nothing flies direct. I ran the search on 14 October 2026 for one adult in economy, leaving from Bratislava and from Vienna, with 10 to 28 April 2027 as the window. Vienna gave me far shorter journeys than Bratislava, which is the main thing to know.

Airport and fareRouteTime and bags
Vienna, return EUR 911Vienna, Sharjah, Kathmandu out (Air Arabia); Kathmandu, Dubai, Vienna back (Emirates)20 h 30 out with a ten-hour wait in Sharjah, 14 h 35 back. Cabin bag and one checked bag
Vienna, return EUR 915Same airlines, but the Sharjah to Kathmandu flight leaves at 08:10 instead of 16:4011 h 40 out, 14 h 35 back. Cabin bag and one checked bag. The best balance I found
Bratislava, return EUR 971Bratislava, Warsaw, Delhi, Kathmandu out (Wizz Air, LOT, Air India); Kathmandu, Delhi, Rome, Bratislava back (Air India, Wizz Air)34 h 50 out, with a night in Delhi, 20 h 25 back. Personal item and one checked bag
Bratislava, return EUR 989Same route, but with the early Delhi to Kathmandu flight21 h out, 20 h 25 back. Personal item and one checked bag

If you carry only a small bag, the picture changes. With no checked bag the cheapest returns were EUR 740 from Bratislava (four flights through Barcelona, Istanbul and Kuwait, 42 h 20 out, no bag of any kind) and EUR 768 from Vienna (33 h 15 out, no bag). Trekkers need a duffel, so I would price the checked bag from the start. One way is cheaper on the right day. With a checked bag, the lowest in the window was EUR 462 from Bratislava on 24 April (22 h 30) and EUR 480 from Vienna on 13 April (16 h 20). Without a bag it was EUR 328 from Bratislava on 11 April and EUR 363 from Vienna on 12 April. Those are the lowest fares for one day each, so your own dates may cost more.

The search does not state which of these are single tickets. On the way out the Vienna fares stay with one airline, but where airlines are joined, as on the Bratislava ones, treat them as separate tickets until the booking page says otherwise. A delay on the first leg could leave you with nothing from the second airline, so keep a spare day. Prices move daily and this is one day's picture. I do not know whether a Slovak passport needs a transit visa at each stop, because it turns on how the ticket is built. Put that question to the airline first.

From Slovakia, Nepal is ahead by 3 hours 45 minutes while your clocks are on summer time, which covers all of April 2027. Your clocks go back on 31 October 2027, and from then the gap is 4 hours 45 minutes.

Do Slovak citizens need a visa for Nepal?

You buy it at Kathmandu airport when you land. Slovak passports are not among the twelve nationalities that have to apply beforehand, and my visa on arrival guide lists them. Three lengths are sold, USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 and USD 125 for 90. The 30-day one fits this trek. There is also an online route, open since 17 August 2026, where you apply and pay by card before leaving home. My e-visa guide walks through it. At the airport counter you can pay in US dollar cash, euros, pounds or by card. The passport must be valid for six months after you arrive. I cannot tell you which Nepali embassy looks after Slovak passports, and you do not need one for this trip.

Can I pay in euros, and what should I carry in cash?

Yes. Slovakia is on the euro, and we accept euros or US dollars, in cash or by card. Ten per cent holds your dates and the rest is settled in Kathmandu. Paying cash there is free, and paying by card adds 3.5 per cent, so euro notes in your money belt are the cheaper way. Keep them clean and unmarked. Nepali rupees are not accepted from foreign guests. What your own bank charges for card use abroad, and what it lets you withdraw, is its decision, so call them before you leave. On the trail, set aside some rupees for snacks, charging and hot showers, roughly USD 20 a day on our page. Two other posts of mine help here, money for trekkers and foreign cards at ATMs.

Which month is best for a Slovak trekker?

MonthDingboche night low (C)What to expect
March-10.5Cold early, warming up, trails starting to fill
April-7.0Warm days, rhododendrons below Namche, second busiest month
May-3.5Warmest month, haze in the afternoon, wetter near Lukla
June to September0.3 to 2.9Monsoon, so skip Everest
October-5.3Dry spell begins, high season, crowded
November-11.0Almost no rain, colder, quieter as the month goes on
December-13.4Dry and cold; early December is the quiet sweet spot
January and February-15.3 and -14.2Coldest, with some high lodges shut

For a traveller from central Europe I would pick April or October. Both fit a fortnight of leave with room to spare, and the flight fares I quote above are for April. Easter falls on 28 March in 2027, so check fares for the first days of April before you fix your dates. Our April 2027 guide goes through weather and departures, and the full Everest Base Camp cost guide breaks down the price line by line. If you go in late October or November, remember that your clocks change on 31 October, which matters for calls home.

How do the Lukla flight and altitude work?

Lukla flights in the busy seasons often depart from Manthali rather than Kathmandu, a 4 to 5 hour drive away, which is why a car comes for you at some point between midnight and 2 am. I give you the exact time at booking, and the reason is in my Ramechhap and Lukla guide. Budget and Standard use a fixed-wing plane. Luxury flies by helicopter both ways. After a day of travel from Europe, land in Kathmandu a day ahead of the trek. Read the altitude guide on the flight out. Take out your insurance in Slovakia, covering trekking to 5,500 m and a helicopter rescue from that height. Policies bought in Nepal are not something I recommend.

Which permits does the trek need?

The route needs the Sagarmatha National Park permit (NPR 3,000), the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee (NPR 3,000) and a TIMS card (NPR 2,000). All three are arranged by us and paid within the trek price. It is not a restricted-area route.

Questions people ask

How much does Everest Base Camp cost from Slovakia? Between EUR 1,250 and EUR 4,465 for the trek, depending on tier. Add a Vienna flight and the visa and Budget lands near EUR 2,350 to 2,450.

Is there a direct flight from Bratislava or Vienna to Kathmandu? No. Every result I saw had one to three changes, taking from 11 hours 40 minutes to over 40 hours one way.

Is it cheaper to fly from Vienna or Bratislava? On my search Vienna was cheaper and faster with a checked bag, EUR 911 against EUR 971. The Bratislava route with no checked bag was lower, at EUR 740, but it took over 42 hours.

Do Slovaks need a visa for Nepal? Yes, but it is easy. Pay for it on landing (USD 50 for 30 days) or apply online first.

Can I pay in euros? Yes. Euros and dollars are both fine, and cash avoids the card charge.

Will the guide speak Slovak? No promise. The guides work in English, and if Slovak matters to you, ask and I will answer straight.

Can I go on my own? You can. The 1 to 4 price covers it, and the solo Everest Base Camp and single supplement post shows how.

What are the terms for this trek?

Groups run from 2 to 20 and a solo traveller is welcome. The 10 per cent deposit is non-refundable, with no refund if you cancel, but you can move your dates free of charge within one year if you give at least 72 hours notice. The balance is due on arrival in Kathmandu in USD or EUR, cash or card. A card adds 3.5 per cent, cash adds nothing, and we cannot take Nepali rupees from foreign clients.
