Everest Base Camp trek cost from Colombia: trek prices in dollars, Bogotá to Kathmandu fares and journey times for April 2027, the visa and how to pay.

Updated 22 October 2026.

Short answer: From Colombia, the 12-day Everest Base Camp trek costs USD 1,399 per person on Budget, USD 2,785 on Standard and USD 4,999 on Luxury for two to four people. The cheapest return from Bogotá to Kathmandu that I found for April 2027, with one checked bag, was USD 2,407. The flights cost more than the trek on Budget, and the journey takes about 30 to 40 hours each way. So one person on Budget should plan on about USD 3,860 for trek, flights and visa, before meals on the trail, Kathmandu hotels, insurance and tips.

I am Shreejan, and I run The Everest Holiday in Kathmandu. Most of the Colombians who write to me ask the same two things: how long the journey really is, and whether the trek is worth the airfare. I searched flights this week and put the real numbers below, with the dates I used.

How much does the Everest Base Camp trek cost from Colombia?

The prices below are from our Everest Base Camp Trek, 12 days page, read on 22 October 2026. They are per person for two to four people. The flight is the cheapest one I found for April 2027 (details in the next section). The visa is USD 50 for 30 days.

The dollar price is the real price. If you travel alone, Budget is USD 2,275 for one person, because nobody shares your guide. Standard and Luxury cost the same alone as in a small group.

The tiers differ in what you get on the trail. Budget has no porter, so you carry your own bag, and you share rooms. Standard has a private room, all meals, and one porter for every two trekkers, so each of you gives the porter 10 kg. Luxury gives you your own porter for a bag of up to 20 kg, deluxe rooms and a helicopter between Kathmandu and Lukla both ways. Kathmandu hotels are not in any tier. I book them separately.

How long is the flight from Bogotá to Kathmandu?

Long. There is no direct flight, and every route I found has at least two changes. I used the Kiwi.com flight search on 22 October 2026 for one adult in economy with one checked bag, leaving Bogotá around 4 April 2027 (two days either side) and coming back around 24 April.

The second fare costs USD 244 more and takes about ten hours less on the way out and eight on the way back. If you only have three weeks off, I would pay the difference, because a day lost to a connection is a day you do not spend walking. Check how the airlines are joined. Some of these fares are separate tickets, and if the first flight is late, the second airline owes you nothing. Keep a spare day at each end.

Nepal is 10 hours 45 minutes ahead of Colombia. After a trip like this, give yourself one rest day in Kathmandu before the Lukla flight. This was one day's search, and fares move every day. Treat the figures as a guide for planning, and compare other routes through Istanbul, Doha or Dubai on your own dates.

Do Colombians need a visa for Nepal?

Most nationalities buy the visa when they land in Kathmandu: USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, USD 125 for 90 days. Twelve nationalities must apply before they travel, according to the lists on World Travel Guide and VisaIndex. Colombia is not on them. I could not read the Department of Immigration list itself, because its website would not load for me, so confirm this before you buy tickets. Our visa on arrival guide shows the forms and the queue. Take the 30-day visa for this trek.

There is one more thing to check: yellow fever. Nepal asks for a vaccination certificate from travellers arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission, and from some who transit through them. The UK government advice for Nepal and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health both say so. I could not confirm how it applies to a Colombian passport flying out of Bogotá. Ask a travel clinic at home, and carry your certificate if you have one.

How do you pay from Colombia?

You pay a 10 per cent deposit online to book, and the rest when you arrive in Kathmandu. We take US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. Card payment of the balance carries 3.5 per cent, which is the bank's charge, and cash carries none. If you pay the deposit by card, we cover that fee. We do not take Nepali rupees from foreign guests. On Budget, carry rupees from a Kathmandu cash machine for your meals, because there are few machines after Lukla and Namche. A teahouse meal with tea or coffee costs about NPR 2,000 at current prices, and not less as you climb higher. My guide to cash machines has the limits.

When is the best month to trek from Colombia?

MonthsOn the Everest trail
March to MaySpring. Warmer days, rhododendrons in the lower forest, clear mornings and more haze by late May
June to AugustMonsoon. Wet lower trail, cloud and frequent Lukla flight delays. I do not suggest it for a first trek
SeptemberThe rains ending. Green and quiet, with some cloud early in the month
October and NovemberThe clearest skies of the year and the busiest trail. Book flights early
December to FebruaryCold nights at Gorak Shep, clear days, few trekkers

With a flight this long, I would pick April or the second half of October, when the weather is steady and a one-day delay at Lukla will not ruin the plan. I wrote the month-by-month detail in Everest weather by month. In the busy seasons, the Lukla flights often leave from Manthali (Ramechhap) instead of Kathmandu, which means a very early drive. My Ramechhap guide explains it.

What else should you budget for?

Insurance comes first. Buy it at home, and make sure it covers trekking and helicopter evacuation up to 6,000 m, because the trek reaches 5,545 m at Kala Patthar. I do not recommend policies bought in Nepal. My insurance guide lists what to check. After that, allow for tips for your guide and porter, hot showers and phone charging in the teahouses, and one or two Kathmandu hotel nights at each end. For the day-by-day plan, read the Everest Base Camp itinerary. Travellers from your side of the world often ask about the same trek from Argentina and Chile, where the trek price is identical and only the flights change.

Group size is 1 to 20, and solo travellers are welcome. The deposit is 10 per cent and it is non-refundable, with no refund if you cancel yourself.
