Everest Base Camp Trek Cost from Argentina: Peso Prices, Flights, Visa and Payment
Last updated 13 October 2026.
Short answer: From Argentina, the Everest Base Camp trek costs USD 1,399 (Budget), USD 2,499 (Standard) or USD 4,999 (Luxury) per person for the 12 days on our Everest Base Camp Trek, 12 days page. At the Central Bank of Argentina rate of 9 October 2026 (1 USD = 1,517 ARS) that is about ARS 2.1 million, 3.8 million or 7.6 million. The flight is the part that surprises people. I found no through-ticket from Buenos Aires, and the cheapest return I could build with a checked bag was USD 2,316 for 10 to 28 April 2027, which is more than the Budget trek itself. A single Budget traveller should plan about USD 3,930 to 4,040 before Kathmandu hotels, insurance and tips, which is about ARS 6.0 to 6.1 million.
I am Shreejan. Argentines who write to me ask about three things: how many hours the journey takes, how to pay when the peso cannot easily be turned into dollars, and whether Spanish is spoken on the trail. I will answer all three, and I will tell you where I am guessing.
What does the Everest Base Camp trek cost from Argentina?
| Item | Budget | Standard | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trek, 12 days, 1 to 4 people (USD) | 1,399 | 2,499 | 4,999 |
| Trek in pesos (approx.) | ARS 2,122,000 | ARS 3,791,000 | ARS 7,583,000 |
| Return flight, Buenos Aires to Kathmandu, April 2027 snapshot | From USD 2,316 (ARS 3,513,000) with a checked bag | ||
| Visa on arrival, 30 days | USD 50 (ARS 75,900) | ||
| Trail meals | About USD 15 to 25 a day, paid by you | Included | Included, with drinks |
| Total before hotels, insurance and tips (USD) | About 3,930 to 4,040 | About 4,865 | About 7,365 |
| Total in pesos (approx.) | ARS 5.96 to 6.13 million | ARS 7.38 million | ARS 11.17 million |
In the Budget total I added eleven days of trail meals at the range shown on our page. Hotel nights in Kathmandu sit outside every tier, and I quote them on request. What the trek price buys is a licensed guide, the permits, the Lukla flights and the lodges, with the full list on the trip page. Five to eight people pay less each; one person pays the 1 to 4 price. Porters on Standard are shared, one for two trekkers, so a lone Standard trekker has none and the guide takes up to 10 kg. If you want a porter of your own, it is USD 25 a day, with 13 per cent VAT and the 3.5 per cent bank charge on top. The peso figures use 1,517 ARS to the dollar, the Central Bank of Argentina figure for 9 October 2026. Your bank or card will use its own rate, so treat the peso numbers as a guide and the dollar numbers as the price.
How long is the journey from Buenos Aires to Kathmandu?
Long. On 13 October 2026 I searched one adult, economy, one way, leaving any day from 10 to 28 April 2027. A fare that keeps everything on one ticket did not appear at all. Every result was built from separate tickets, which means that if the first flight is late, the next airline may owe you nothing. So leave a day of margin and keep your bags with you where you can.
| Fare (one way) | Route | Time and bag |
|---|---|---|
| USD 889 | Buenos Aires, Punta Cana, Toronto, Delhi, Kathmandu (Arajet and Air India) | About 51 hours. Personal item only, no checked bag |
| USD 1,106 | Buenos Aires, Punta Cana, New York, Delhi, Kathmandu (Arajet and Air India) | About 47 to 49 hours, with a checked bag. The New York change moves between two airports on some dates |
| USD 1,196 | Buenos Aires, Madrid, Chengdu, Kathmandu (Plus Ultra and Sichuan Airlines) | About 36 hours, with a checked bag. The fastest I found |
For the return ticket, 10 to 28 April 2027 with a checked bag, the cheapest I could find was USD 2,316: 54 hours out through Punta Cana, New York and Delhi, and 49 hours home through Delhi, San Francisco and Atlanta. The Madrid and Chengdu outbound was USD 2,370 and took 37 hours. Fares change every day, and this is one snapshot. If your dates are flexible, search the whole window, because the same journey a week apart can differ by hundreds of dollars. Chengdu and Delhi are both transit stops in other countries. I cannot tell you whether an Argentine passport needs a transit visa there, and it depends on how the ticket is issued, so ask the airline before you pay. Nepal is 8 hours 45 minutes ahead of Buenos Aires.
Do Argentine citizens need a visa for Nepal?
You buy it at the airport when you land, so there is no embassy visit. Argentina is missing from the short list of twelve nationalities that must apply in advance, which I explain in my visa on arrival guide. Prices are USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 and USD 125 for 90; choose 30 days for this trek. Since 17 August 2026 you can also apply online and pay by card before you fly, and my e-visa guide shows how. Your passport needs six months of validity. I could not confirm whether Nepal keeps a consulate in Argentina, and you do not need one for this.
How do you pay us from Argentina?
Payment is in US dollars or euros, by cash or card, and never in Nepali rupees or Argentine pesos. A 10 per cent deposit holds the dates, and you settle the rest on arrival in Kathmandu, where cash is free and a card adds 3.5 per cent. What I cannot tell you is how your bank treats a payment in dollars abroad, what it charges, or whether it limits the amount. Ask your bank before you pay the deposit, and ask whether your card works at Nepali ATMs. The safe plan is to carry the Kathmandu balance in clean US dollar notes and to find out what you may take out of Argentina and declare on the way. You will want some Nepali rupees on the trail for tea, charging and showers, and my notes on money for trekkers and foreign cards at ATMs cover how much.
Is Spanish spoken on the trail?
Not by our guides. Our guides work in English, and I cannot promise a Spanish speaker on any departure. In the lodges you get by with a few words of English, a smile and the menu in front of you. If Spanish matters to you, tell me when you write, and I will say honestly whether I can find one. Dal bhat, noodles, fried rice, eggs and soup are the staple, and it is easy to eat without meat. If you drink mate, bring your own gourd, bombilla and yerba. Lodges sell boiled water, but I cannot say what customs will make of your yerba, so ask before you pack it.
When is the best time to go from Argentina?
| Nepal month | Season at home | Dingboche night low (C) | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| March | Early autumn | -10.5 | Cold early, warmer by the end, trails filling |
| April | Autumn | -7.0 | Rhododendrons low down, steady weather, busy |
| May | Late autumn | -3.5 | Warmest, hazier afternoons, rain building near Lukla |
| June to September | Winter and early spring | 0.3 to 2.9 | Monsoon, so not the time for Everest |
| October | Spring | -5.3 | First dry month, peak crowds |
| November | Late spring | -11.0 | Dry and clear, colder, quieter by the end of the month |
| December to February | Summer | -13.4 to -15.3 | Dry but very cold, and some high lodges close |
The seasons run the other way round from yours, as the second column shows. Nepal's monsoon falls in your winter, so the July school holidays are the wrong time for Everest. For an Argentine traveller I suggest April, or the first half of November, which is late spring at home. Holy Week falls at the end of March 2027, a popular time for long weekends, so check fares for those days. Read my April 2027 guide and the full Everest Base Camp cost guide.
What about the flight to Lukla and altitude?
In spring and autumn the small planes to Lukla often leave from Manthali instead of Kathmandu, a road journey of 4 to 5 hours, so a night pick-up around midnight to 2 am is normal. I confirm the time when you book, and my Ramechhap and Lukla guide has the reasons. Budget and Standard fly in a fixed-wing plane, and Luxury has a round-trip helicopter. After two days of flying, arrive in Kathmandu a day early so that your bags and your body catch up. My altitude guide is worth reading on the plane. Insurance should be bought in Argentina, with cover for walking to 5,500 m and for a helicopter evacuation. I advise against policies bought in Nepal.
What permits do you need?
Three: Sagarmatha National Park (NPR 3,000), the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee (NPR 3,000) and the TIMS card (NPR 2,000). We buy them for you and they are inside the trek price. Nothing here is a restricted area.
Questions people ask
How much is Everest Base Camp from Argentina? The trek alone is USD 1,399, 2,499 or 4,999. Add a flight and a visa and a Budget traveller is near USD 3,930 to 4,040, or ARS 6.0 to 6.1 million at 1,517 pesos to the dollar.
Is there a direct flight to Kathmandu? No. Nothing I found was on a single ticket, and the journeys changed planes two or three times over 36 to 54 hours.
Do Argentines need a visa for Nepal? Yes. You can buy it at Kathmandu airport (USD 50 for 30 days) or apply online before you leave.
Can I pay in pesos? No, only dollars or euros. Ask your bank how it handles a dollar payment abroad.
Is there a Spanish-speaking guide? I cannot promise one. Our guides work in English. Tell me what you need and I will say honestly what I can do.
Which month should an Argentine traveller choose? April, or the first half of November. Avoid July.
Can I go on my own? Yes, and the 1 to 4 price applies. See solo Everest Base Camp and the single supplement.
What are the terms for this trek?
Groups run from 2 to 20 and a solo traveller is welcome. The 10 per cent deposit is non-refundable, with no refund if you cancel, but you can move your dates free of charge within one year if you give at least 72 hours notice. The balance is due on arrival in Kathmandu in USD or EUR, cash or card. A card adds 3.5 per cent, cash adds nothing, and we cannot take Nepali rupees from foreign clients.
