What we know so far about the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2027, the rules that will not change, and how to join our 2027 priority list.

Last updated 10 October 2026.

Short answer: I cannot yet tell you the dates, the quota or the price of a Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2027, and I will not guess. What I can do is tell you the rules that will not change, so you can prepare, and put you on our 2027 priority list. Dates and prices are confirmed once the Tibet season opens. To join the list, message me on WhatsApp on +977 9810351300. Joining costs nothing and does not reserve a place.

I get a lot of messages from people who want to book Kailash for 2027 today. I understand why. The 2026 season was cut short, and a pilgrimage like this is planned for years. But the Chinese side sets the season, the permits and the numbers, and none of that has been announced. My earlier page, Kailash 2027: what is confirmed and what is not, lists the news item by item. This page is the practical one: what to do now, and how to get on the list. Our main trip pages are the 14-day overland tour, the helicopter tour and the Kailash Mansarovar tour.

What do we know about Kailash in 2027?

ItemWhere it stands on 10 October 2026
2027 datesNot set. They depend on the Tibet season opening
2027 quotaNot announced. I cannot promise a place on any date
2027 priceNot set. We publish it when the season is confirmed, not before
Overland road from NepalCut by the Bhote Koshi flood of 26 August 2026. No reopening date
The four permitsKnown. They are the same every year (below)
The age limitKnown. No pilgrims over 70
Existing Chinese visasKnown. An existing visa is cancelled on the overland route
Inner koraCannot be promised. See below

In a normal year the pilgrimage season runs for about five months, usually May to September, and my month-by-month guide explains the character of each. Nobody has told me which 2027 months will be available, so please do not plan around one.

What rules do not change?

One Kailash, one permit. It does not matter whether you enter Tibet overland from Kathmandu, fly into Lhasa first or take the western route. It is the same Kailash and the same permit system. Choosing a different entry point does not give you a different quota or a way round the rules. It only changes the trip and the price.

Your passport decides eligibility. Not where you live, and not the route. Indian passport holders and holders of other passports are handled under different arrangements, so tell me which passport you hold when you write.

The over-70 ban. The Chinese pilgrim-permit rules (CIPSC) do not allow pilgrims over 70, and we cannot override that. If you are close to 70, tell me your date of birth. Under 70 is not the same as ready, because Kailash means days above 4,500 m and the Dolma La at 5,630 m. My age and fitness guide has the checks.

Four documents, not one. A Chinese visa on its own gets nobody into Tibet. You need the visa, the Tibet Travel Permit, the Aliens' Travel Permit and a military or border permit for the Ngari region. Only a registered agency can obtain the Tibet permit, so you cannot do this yourself. My permit guide explains the process.

The Chinese group visa. If you travel overland from Nepal, everyone goes on a Chinese group visa issued in Kathmandu, and any Chinese visa already in your passport is cancelled. A visa you bought in advance is destroyed, not a head start. So do not apply for a visa before you talk to us, and tell me if you already hold one, especially a multiple-entry visa. My page on the Chinese group visa has the detail.

Inner kora. Officially it is not granted, and I will not confirm it in writing. We sell the outer kora, about three days, and whether the inner circuit is possible depends on the day. If that is the reason for your trip, please ask me on a call.

How do you get on the 2027 priority list?

There is no form and no payment. Message me on WhatsApp on +977 9810351300 and send:

  • Your passport nationality, and whether you hold an OCI card or a Chinese visa
  • Your date of birth, so I can check the age limit
  • How many people are travelling, and how many are over 65
  • The months you could travel in 2027
  • The route you would prefer, overland, helicopter or by Lhasa, if you have a view
  • Any health condition I should know about
  • Your email address

I will write to everyone on the list as soon as I have a confirmed route, a quota and a price. Joining does not hold a date, does not mean you owe us anything, and does not guarantee a place. If I know of a reason your trip will not work, for example your age, I will tell you straight away rather than let you wait.

What should you do now to prepare?

Do what is free and useful. Get a medical check and talk to your doctor about altitude. Check that your passport is valid well beyond the end of the trip, and I will confirm the exact rule when the season opens. Think about how many days you can take off. Price your flights only after you have a confirmed date. If you are in a group, agree now who needs to be on the list. Buy travel insurance at home, with cover for altitude above 5,600 m and helicopter evacuation, confirmed in writing. I do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.

For the route options, my overland and helicopter comparison explains the trade-offs. I am not going to put a 2027 price on this page. My guide to what a Kailash trip costs is a record of 2026 and shows what drives the price, but it is not a 2027 quote.

What are the terms once dates exist?

I tell you now so you can decide whether it suits you. For Kailash and Tibet the deposit is 25 per cent, and it is non-refundable, so there is no refund if you cancel. You can reschedule free of charge with at least seven days notice, to any date within one year. If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on permits or flights. The balance is paid in USD or EUR, cash or by card, and card carries 3.5 per cent. We do not take Nepali rupees from foreign clients. Nobody should pay anything because of this page.

When should you not plan around Kailash in 2027?

If you are 70 or older. If you need a firm date now for work, a family event or visas. If you would have to buy non-refundable flights before the season is announced. If you cannot afford to lose money if the trip does not go ahead. If your health is borderline and a delay would make it worse. If you can be flexible, 2027 may be possible, and the list is worth joining. If you cannot, a firmer plan on another trip may serve you better, and I will say so.

Questions people ask

Is Kailash Mansarovar open in 2027? I do not know. The overland road was cut in August 2026 and I have no announcement about the 2027 season. I will update you when I do.

Can I book the 2027 Kailash Yatra now? No. There are no confirmed dates, quota or prices. I can put you on the priority list, which holds nothing but means I write to you first when there is news.

How much will Kailash cost in 2027? I do not know yet. The price is confirmed once the Tibet season opens, and I will not quote a number before then.

Can I join if I am over 70? No. The Chinese pilgrim-permit rules do not allow pilgrims over 70, and we cannot change that.

I already have a Chinese visa. Is it useful? Not for the overland route. It is cancelled when you join the group visa issued in Kathmandu. Please do not apply for a new one until we talk.

Does the route change the permit? No. Overland, helicopter or via Lhasa, it is one Kailash and one permit system.

Can you promise the inner kora? No. Officially it is not granted. We plan the outer kora and ask about the inner circuit on the ground.

How do I join the 2027 list? Message me on WhatsApp on +977 9810351300 with the details above. There is no form and no payment.

What is the next step?

Message me on WhatsApp on +977 9810351300 with your nationality, date of birth, group size and the months you could travel. I will tell you honestly whether I think 2027 is realistic for you.
