Trekking in Nepal in April 2027: Weather, Best Treks and Departures
Last updated 10 October 2026.
Short answer: April is the warmest and most balanced month of the spring season, and it is also the second busiest month on the Everest trail. Days are warm, rhododendrons are out below 3,500 m, and nights at height are less harsh than in March. Almost every trek we run works in April. The trade-off is crowds, afternoon cloud and haze. We have Monday departures on 5, 12, 19 and 26 April 2027, and Upper Mustang on Saturday 10 and 24 April.
If you only get one month for the Himalaya and you dislike the cold more than you dislike company, April is the month I would pick. The trek most people choose is the Everest Base Camp trek, and I use it as the example below. Here is the weather, the treks that suit April, the crowds, the festivals, our dates and when to book.

What is the weather like in April?
Warm by day, much less cold at night than March, and still mostly dry. The figures below come from my own best-time guides and are averages, not forecasts. Everest rows are station averages (Dingboche is modelled).
| Place | Day high / night low (C) | Rain in April |
|---|---|---|
| Lukla, 2,786 m | 16.6 / 5.7 | 58.7 mm |
| Namche Bazaar, 3,450 m | 12.8 / 0.8 | 26 mm |
| Tengboche, 3,857 m | 12.1 / -4.0 | 25.2 mm |
| Dingboche, 4,410 m (modelled) | 8.5 / -7.0 | 13 mm |
| Pokhara, 827 m | 30.0 / 16.1 | 141.7 mm on 10.5 days, 7.3 hours of sun a day |
| Ghorepani, 2,860 m | 13 / 4 | Poon Hill viewpoint about 2 at dawn |
| Manang, 3,401 m | 14 / -1 | 38.5 mm |
The rain on the Annapurna side starts to climb in April, so the south side is wetter than in autumn. Plan for clear mornings and cloud by the afternoon. On the Annapurna Base Camp route, a weather model gives about 96 mm and 20 wet days at base camp in April, and a night low of about -5 C. At Gorak Shep, the last settlement below Everest Base Camp, the same kind of model shows April as the driest spring month. Thorong La averages about -13 C at night, much kinder than March. My Everest in April guide has more.
Which treks suit April 2027?
| Trek | Days | Price per person for one traveller: Budget / Standard / Luxury (USD) | April verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everest Base Camp | 12 | 1,399 / 2,499 / 4,999 | Yes. Warm days, busy trail, flowers below Namche |
| Manaslu Circuit | 12 | 799 / 1,599 / 2,099 | Yes. The spring peak; the pass is usually clear of heavy snow |
| Annapurna Circuit | 12 | 720 / 999 / 1,499 | Yes. Thorong La about -13 C at night; wet lower days |
| Annapurna Base Camp | 9 | 499 / 799 / 1,400 | Yes, with wet afternoons |
| Poon Hill | 6 | 499 / 960 / 1,930 | Yes. Flowers at their best, haze in the afternoon |
| Mardi Himal | 7 | 454 / 849 / 1,111 | Yes. Warm and flowery, more afternoon cloud |
| Gokyo Valley | 10 | 1,285 / 2,325 / 4,332 | Yes. Warmer than March, hazier than November |
| Everest Three Passes | 17 | 1,649 / 2,659 / 4,719 | Second-best window after autumn |
| Upper Mustang | 10 | 1,290 / 1,930 / 3,500 | Yes. Saturday departures only |
| Langtang Valley | 8 | 365 / 650 / 1,000 | Spring is good. Road to be confirmed |
These prices hold for 2027. Group size lowers the price per person, and a private trip costs the same as a group. If crowds bother you, I would choose Manaslu, Gokyo or Langtang over the main Everest trail.
On Budget you carry your own bag, rooms are shared and trek meals are not included. On Standard there is one porter for every two trekkers, private rooms and all trek meals, and a solo Standard trekker has no porter, so the guide carries up to 10 kg. On Luxury every trekker has a dedicated porter, private deluxe rooms and all meals, and the Everest Base Camp trek uses a helicopter to and from Lukla.
How crowded is April?
Busy. On the Everest trail April is the second busiest month after October. Nationwide, 111,000 international visitors arrived in April 2024 (Nepal Tourism Board, read from a chart, all visitors). Easter falls on Sunday 28 March 2027, and European bookings cluster in the fortnight around it. In busy weeks the lodges at bottleneck villages like Lobuche and Gorak Shep run out of rooms, which is why we pre-book along the route. My guide to avoiding crowds on Everest lists the quieter weeks.
Festivals in April 2027
Nepali New Year is on Wednesday 14 April 2027, and government offices and many shops close. In Bhaktapur it comes with Bisket Jatra, a street festival that is worth a stop if your trek starts or ends around it. Public holiday calendars give the same date for it. Some buses and offices are closed that day, so do not plan a permit or a money change on it. See the festival calendar for the year.

What about flights, roads and permits?
April sits inside the Manthali window. Lukla flights leave from Ramechhap airport, a four to five hour night drive from Kathmandu, and your guide collects you from your hotel between midnight and 2 am. Our notes mark every April Everest, Gokyo and Three Passes departure that way. The Civil Aviation Authority sets the dates and I have not seen the official 2027 ones, so I will confirm before you fly. Luxury flies a helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla and avoids the drive. Weather delays happen in April too, so never book your flight home for the day after the trek. My Manthali guide has the detail.
Permits are in our price. On Everest that is the Sagarmatha National Park permit (NPR 3,000), the Khumbu local fee (NPR 3,000) and TIMS (NPR 2,000). On Annapurna it is the conservation area permit (NPR 3,000) and TIMS. Manaslu is restricted: USD 75 a week plus USD 10 a day from December to August, with a licensed guide. Upper Mustang is USD 50 a day. Restricted-area permits need 48 hours in government working days, so send passport details early. Some Annapurna and Mustang roads were damaged in September 2026, and the Langtang road in August. I check each road 48 hours before departure and move your dates free if it is not open.
When should you book an April 2027 trek?
Six to eight weeks ahead is comfortable, but April fills first around Easter, so I would book two to three months ahead for the first two Mondays. For the 5 April departure that means booking in January. Add one to two weeks for Manaslu and Upper Mustang paperwork. The booking guide and the spring 2027 planner go further.
The deposit is 10 per cent and it is non-refundable, so there is no refund if you cancel. You can reschedule free of charge with at least 72 hours notice (seven days for restricted areas), to any date within one year. If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on permits or flights. The balance is paid on arrival in Kathmandu, in USD or EUR, cash or by card. Card carries 3.5 per cent and cash carries none. We do not take Nepali rupees from foreign clients. Your licensed guide is named after you book. Kathmandu hotels are not included in any trek price, so I quote them separately.
Questions people ask
Is April a good month for Everest Base Camp? Yes. Namche is 12.8 C by day and 0.8 C at night, rain is light, and the rhododendrons flower below Namche. The cost is a busy trail and haze in the afternoons.
Is April or October better for the Annapurna Circuit? October is clearer. April is warmer, with a milder pass (about -13 C at night, against about -10 C in October) but more cloud on the south side.
Does the Lukla flight leave from Kathmandu in April? Mostly from Manthali, with a midnight pick-up. Luxury uses a helicopter from Kathmandu. Dates are set by the aviation authority and can shift.
Are the rhododendrons out in April? Yes, in the forests below about 3,500 m on the Everest trail, and on the Poon Hill and Mardi routes. Peak bloom changes year to year.
Do I need a permit for Upper Mustang? Yes. It is a restricted area: USD 50 a day, a licensed guide and an agency-issued TIMS card. We arrange it and it is in the price.
Is Poon Hill good in April? Yes, it is the month for flowers. Ghorepani is about 13 C by day and 4 C at night. Rain starts to climb and afternoon haze is more common than in autumn, so plan the views for the morning.
Is April more expensive than other months? No. Our prices are the same all year and hold for 2027. Flights and Kathmandu hotels cost more, which I cannot control.
