Plan a November 2027 trek in Nepal: the driest, clearest month, cold nights, the treks that suit it and our departures on 1, 8, 15 and 22 November.

Last updated 10 October 2026.

Short answer: November is the driest and clearest month of the year in the mountains, and it is cold. The first half is very good, and the second half is quieter, with colder nights and more risk of fresh snow on the high passes. It is my pick for Everest, Gokyo, Annapurna Base Camp and Mardi Himal. Our Monday departures in 2027 are 1, 8, 15 and 22 November. For the passes, I prefer the first two.

The skies in November are clear because the climate dries out, not because of luck. If I could choose one month for the Everest Base Camp trek, it would be the first half of November. Below you will find the weather figures, which treks suit the month and which do not, the crowds, the festivals, our dates and when to book.

What is the weather like in November?

Dry and clear, with cold nights. These are averages from my own best-time guides, not forecasts. Everest rows are station averages (Dingboche is modelled).

PlaceDay high / night low (C)Rain in November
Lukla, 2,786 m13.8 / 2.46.2 mm
Namche Bazaar, 3,450 m9.1 / -3.811 mm
Tengboche, 3,857 m8.1 / -6.93.0 mm
Dingboche, 4,410 m (modelled)5.3 / -11.02 mm
Pokhara, 827 m24.4 / 12.317.2 mm on 1.3 days, 7.4 hours of sun a day
Ghorepani, 2,860 m10 / 3Poon Hill viewpoint about 1 at dawn
Manang, 3,401 m12 / -41.1 mm
Jomsom, 2,741 m (rain only)-4.6 mm
Thorong La, 5,416 m (model)Night low about -15-

Two numbers tell the story. Lukla drops from 103 mm in October to 6.2 mm, and Manang to 1.1 mm. The price is the cold. Our guides find nights at Gorak Shep in the second half of November fall to around minus ten or colder, which is guide experience and not an instrument reading. On the Annapurna side the ridge at Mardi Himal is at its sharpest in November. My Everest in November guide and Mardi Himal best-time guide go deeper.

Which treks suit November 2027, and which do not?

TrekDaysPrice per person for one traveller: Budget / Standard / Luxury (USD)November verdict
Everest Base Camp121,399 / 2,499 / 4,999Yes. Cold skies, clear views, thinner crowds as the month goes on
Gokyo Valley101,285 / 2,325 / 4,332Yes. The first half of November is my pick for the lakes
Annapurna Base Camp9499 / 799 / 1,400Yes. One of the two best months; base camp about -6 C at night
Mardi Himal7454 / 849 / 1,111Yes. The best month of the year for clear skies
Poon Hill6499 / 960 / 1,930Yes. Early to mid November has the clearest skies
Everest Three Passes171,649 / 2,659 / 4,719First half only. Later it is cold, with icy passes
Annapurna Circuit12720 / 999 / 1,499First half. Thorong La is about -15 C at night; the second half is a risk
Manaslu Circuit12799 / 1,599 / 2,0991 and 8 November. Fresh snow on the pass is more likely from mid month
Upper Mustang101,290 / 1,930 / 3,500Yes. Stable weather, 15 to 25 C by day, lows about -5 C
Langtang Valley8365 / 650 / 1,000Dry and clear if the road is open. To be confirmed

These prices hold for 2027. Group size lowers the price per person, and a private trip costs the same as a group.

On Budget you carry your own bag, rooms are shared and trek meals are not included. On Standard there is one porter for every two trekkers, private rooms and all trek meals, and a solo Standard trekker has no porter, so the guide carries up to 10 kg. On Luxury every trekker has a dedicated porter, private deluxe rooms and all meals, and the Everest Base Camp trek uses a helicopter to and from Lukla.

How crowded is November?

High at the start and easing. About 114,000 international visitors arrived in November 2024 (Nepal Tourism Board, read from a chart, all visitors), down from 124,000 in October. The second half of the month is quieter, the lodges have beds, and the views stay clear. If your dates are flexible, that is when I would go. My guide to avoiding crowds on Everest compares the months.

Festivals in November 2027

Tihar, the festival of lights, ends just before the month begins. Laxmi Puja is on Friday 29 October 2027, Govardhan Puja on Saturday 30 October and Bhai Tika on Sunday 31 October, so our 1 November departure starts the day after Bhai Tika. Chhath Puja is on Thursday 4 November, celebrated mainly in the Terai, and it has no effect on the trails. Government dates are not yet announced, so treat these as expected. Read my Dashain and Tihar 2027 guide for what closes.

What about flights, roads and permits?

November is inside the Manthali window, which runs to about 30 November. Lukla flights leave from Ramechhap airport, a four to five hour night drive from Kathmandu, with a pick-up between midnight and 2 am. Our notes mark all four Everest departures that way. Weather delays are normal, so keep a spare day at the end and never book your flight home for the day after the trek. Luxury flies a helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla. My Manthali guide has the detail.

Permits are in our price. Annapurna is NPR 3,000 plus TIMS at NPR 2,000. On Everest it is the park permit (NPR 3,000), the Khumbu local fee (NPR 3,000) and TIMS (NPR 2,000). Manaslu is USD 100 a week plus USD 15 a day from September to November, with a licensed guide. Upper Mustang is USD 50 a day. Restricted-area permits need 48 hours in government working days. Roads in the Annapurna and Mustang area were damaged in 2026, and the Langtang road in August. I check each road 48 hours before departure and move your dates free if it is not open.

When should you book a November 2027 trek?

Two to three months ahead for the first two Mondays, which means early August to early September for 1 November. The later Mondays are easier, but Lukla seats and teahouse beds still go first. Add one to two weeks for Manaslu or Mustang paperwork. My booking guide explains why.

The deposit is 10 per cent and it is non-refundable, so there is no refund if you cancel. You can reschedule free of charge with at least 72 hours notice (seven days for restricted areas), to any date within one year. If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on permits or flights. The balance is paid on arrival in Kathmandu, in USD or EUR, cash or by card. Card carries 3.5 per cent and cash carries none. We do not take Nepali rupees from foreign clients. Your licensed guide is named after you book. Kathmandu hotels are not included in any trek price, so I quote them separately.

Questions people ask

Is November a good time to trek in Nepal? Yes, it is one of the best. It is the driest month, and the skies are clear. The cost is cold nights and a risk of snow on high passes late in the month.

How cold is Everest Base Camp in November? Namche is about -3.8 C at night and Dingboche about -11 C (modelled). Our guides say Gorak Shep falls to around minus ten or colder in the second half of November.

Is the Annapurna Circuit possible in late November? It can be, but Thorong La averages about -15 C at night and snow can close it. I prefer the first half of November, or October.

Which is better, October or November? November is drier and colder, and the second half is quieter. October is milder but busier. I like late October to mid November.

Does Tihar affect my November trek? Barely. Tihar ends on 31 October and touches Kathmandu and the lower villages most. Chhath Puja on 4 November is in the Terai.

Do the Lukla flights leave from Kathmandu in November? Mostly from Manthali, with a midnight pick-up. Luxury uses a helicopter from Kathmandu.

Do I need to book early for November? Yes for the first half. The later Mondays are easier, but flight seats and beds go first.
