Nepal in 2 Weeks: Three Itineraries for Every Type of Traveller

Three different 14-day Nepal itineraries. All-in trekking, the best mix of trek+safari+culture, or multiple short treks. What to skip and what not to miss.

What Can You See in Nepal in 2 Weeks?

Two weeks is the sweet spot for Nepal. Shorter than that and you rush. Longer and most travellers start running out of energy (altitude and daily walking are more tiring than people expect). In 14 days, you can trek to Everest Base Camp, explore a national park, wander through medieval temples, and still have time for a Pokhara sunset — if you plan it right.

The key decision is how much of your 2 weeks you want to spend trekking. A 12-day EBC trek leaves 2 days for Kathmandu. A 5-day Poon Hill trek leaves 9 days for everything else. Your choice shapes the entire trip.

Option 1: All-In Trekking (EBC or Annapurna Circuit)

If trekking is your priority, use the full 2 weeks for a major trek plus a day or two in Kathmandu.

EBC itinerary (14 days):

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu, briefing, gear check

Day 2-13: Classic EBC trek (fly to Lukla, trek to base camp, return)

Day 14: Fly Lukla to Kathmandu, departure or extra night

This is tight but doable. You see Everest, Kala Patthar, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche monastery, and the Khumbu Glacier. What you miss: everything below 2,840m — no Kathmandu exploration, no safari, no Pokhara.

Annapurna Circuit (14-16 days):

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu

Day 2: Drive to Besisahar or Chame

Day 3-14: Trek the circuit via Thorong La to Muktinath and Jomsom

Day 15: Fly Jomsom to Pokhara, bus to Kathmandu (or stay in Pokhara)

Option 2: Trek + Culture + Wildlife (The Best Mix)

This is what we recommend for most first-time visitors. You get the Himalayas, the jungle, the temples, and the lake — without the altitude demands of a major trek.

Sample 14-day itinerary:

Day 1-2: Kathmandu — Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, Bhaktapur, Swayambhunath

Day 3: Fly to Pokhara

Day 4-8: Poon Hill trek (5 days) or Mardi Himal trek

Day 9: Pokhara — lakeside, paragliding, rest

Day 10-11: Drive or fly to Chitwan, 2-day safari (rhino, crocodile, Tharu dance)

Day 12: Return to Kathmandu

Day 13: Kathmandu — shopping, Patan, rooftop dinner

Day 14: Departure

This gives you mountains, jungle, culture, and relaxation in a single trip. The trekking is moderate (max 3,210m), the safari is thrilling, and Kathmandu fills in the cultural gaps.

Option 3: Multiple Short Treks

Instead of one long trek, do two or three shorter ones in different regions. This gives you variety and reduces altitude exposure.

Day 1-2: Kathmandu

Day 3-6: Langtang Valley trek (short version, 4 days to Kyanjin Gompa and back)

Day 7: Return to Kathmandu

Day 8: Fly to Pokhara

Day 9-12: Poon Hill trek (4 days)

Day 13: Pokhara day — lake, zipline, or rest

Day 14: Fly to Kathmandu, departure

Two treks, two regions, two completely different landscapes. Langtang gives you Tibetan culture and glacier views. Poon Hill gives you the classic Annapurna panorama. Together they cover more ground than a single long trek.

What Should You NOT Try to Fit In?

Nepal is not a country you can blitz through. The roads are slow (50km can take 3 hours), flights cancel due to weather, and altitude acclimatisation cannot be rushed. Common mistakes:

Too many flights: Domestic flights in Nepal are notoriously unreliable. Build buffer days after any flight-dependent plan. If your EBC trek depends on a Lukla flight, allow 1 to 2 extra days for delays.

Too much driving: Long bus journeys (Kathmandu to Chitwan = 5 hours, Chitwan to Pokhara = 5 hours) are tiring. Domestic flights save time but add cancellation risk.

Too many activities: Paragliding, bungee jumping, rafting, and trekking all in 14 days leaves you exhausted rather than exhilarated. Pick 2 to 3 main experiences and do them well.

How Much Does 2 Weeks Cost?

Nepal is one of the cheapest adventure destinations in the world. A 14-day trip including trekking, safari, domestic flights, and accommodation costs significantly less than comparable trips in other Himalayan countries or in Africa.

Our packages are all-inclusive: guide, porter, meals on trek, accommodation, permits, domestic flights, and airport transfers. Check our complete cost breakdown for detailed pricing.

Budget roughly $15-25/day for personal extras: drinks, snacks, Wi-Fi, hot showers, and souvenirs.
