Best Time for Langtang Valley Trek

Spring and autumn are the best times for Langtang Valley Trekking. The conditions are the most suitable in both seasons. You will find mild temperatures throughout the day. However, be mindful that the evening can be a little chilly.

In the spring months from March to May, you will find the landscape covered in rhododendrons, and wildflowers amid clear and pleasant weather. The Langtang Valley is transformed into a vibrant mix of colors. This is also the best time for wildlife spotting. Watch out for the rare and endangered red pandas, and langurs.

The autumn months from September to November is another ideal time for the Langtang Valley Trek. You can enjoy clear skies and panoramic views of the Langtang Himal Range. Day 01:

Your adventure begins with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Syaburbesi. The first leg of the trip takes you along the black-topped road to Trisuli Bazar. Enjoy the scenic views of the countryside as the road is going to get a tad bumpy once it hits the graveled roads. Despite the off-road adventures, you will find lush hills, and rivers following you on your journey to Syabrubesi.

Day 02:

Your trek to Langtang Valley officially begins from day 2. You leave for the long and winding trails after breakfast. Expect an easy hike today. The trek begins after crossing the Bhote Koshi River, then gradually moves up to Bamboo, and to Rimche. You reach your destination, Lama Hotel, by the end of the day.

Day 03:

The trek today begins soon after breakfast at Lama Hotel. You will walk past rhododendron and pine forests with the Langtang Lirung and Langtang Himal Range as your backdrop. Once you reach Ghoda Tabela, you break for lunch. After a brief rest, you will ascend into the alpine meadows amid grazing yaks before you reach Langtang Village. From Langtang Village, you can relish the views of the Langtang Range, as the mountain range appears more prominent.

Day 04:

Set out on a short hike today. Your destination is the Kyanjin Gompa located at an elevation of 3830 meters. The hike begins with a steep climb through the yak pastures. You will find temporary shepard shades along the route in these pastures. As you walk further, the Langtang Range appears more prominent. After a brief walk, you will reach Kyanjin Gompa. The monastery is adorned with chortens, prayer flags, and mani walls. You will reach the monastery for lunch. Take the rest of the day to explore the surroundings. Be sure to visit the cheese factory for a taste of the Himalayan cheese.

Day 05:

After a strenuous 3 day trek, you get a day off for acclimatization. It is necessary to acclimate your body to help your body cope with the gaining altitude. However, you can still make the best of the day by further roaming the area. Explore the village or hike the nearby destinations. You can hike to Kyanjin Ri (4400 meters), or hike even further to Tsergo Ri (4984 meters) to get a better view of the mountain range.

Kyanjin Gompa is famous for the Buddhist monastery the village is named after. The yak cheese factory of the village is also famous as visitors make a trip there to get a taste of the Himalayan cheese.

Day 06:

Today, you begin to retrace your steps back. Your journey begins after breakfast at Kyanjin Gompa. Head back the same route to Langtang Village and Ghoda tabela. You will stop at GhodaTabela for lunch before beginning a descent to Lama Hotel. Though the hike is long, you will mostly be walking downhill making the journey easy.

Day 07:

Today is the final hiking day of the Langtang Valley Trek. Your journey starts at Lama Hotel and descends to Rimche, Bamboo, and finally Syabrubesi where you will spend the night.

Day 08:

Start your day early to catch a bus to Kathmandu. The local bus ride is filled with bumpy roads but the view you get of the passing villages is awe-inspiring. Once you reach Kathmandu, we recommend visiting the nearby heritage sites. You can also wander around the bustling streets of Thamel. In the evening, we meet again for farewell dinner on your final day in Kathmandu.

Your day starts with a hearty breakfast in the teahouse/lodge which is soon followed by a journey through the mountain terrains. Before your journey, make sure you have packed properly. Pack essentials like water, snacks, and sunscreen. Next, you depart for your next destination traversing through dramatic landscapes, barren mountains, canyons, and Tamang villages. Take the opportunity to interact with the locals and immerse in their culture and tradition. For lunch, you break at a local teahouse. Once your lunch break is over, you continue your journey. Afternoon treks are usually shorter than the morning treks. Therefore, you’ll arrive at your destination by late afternoon, or early evening. How Hard is the Langtang Valley Trek?

Langtang Valley Trek difficulty is rated moderate to challenging. Though shorter than the classic Everest Base Camp Trek, or the Annapurna Circuit Trek, the journey to Langtang Valley is full of adventures, rugged terrains, and you will need to reach an altitude of almost 5000 meters. Therefore, there is also a chance of altitude sickness during this trek.

We recommend traveling in spring, or autumn to avoid the risk of uncertain weather. Also, ensure that you have good fitness, and if you are new to trekking, take some time to hike easier trails before setting off on the Langtang Valley Trekking route.
