Route-by-route status dated 25 September to 2 October 2026, November weather by station, Dashain and Tihar dates, flight windows and an honest ranking of which treks suit November.

Written by Shreejan Simkhada, CEO of The Everest Holiday and third-generation Himalayan guide. TAAN Member #1586. Status written on 2 October 2026, using the newest dated report I could find for each route, from 25 September to 2 October 2026. I will update this page as November gets closer.

The short answer: most of Nepal is on track for a normal November, and the best treks for the month are Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, Poon Hill and Mardi Himal. Three things need a straight answer from me. Langtang is not accessible as of 1 October because its only road has been closed since the August flood, and Syabrubesi, where the trek starts, was devastated. The Annapurna Circuit and Mustang depend on mountain roads that were damaged on 27 September and were still cut off on 1 October. Manaslu is open but disrupted, as last reported on 28 September. Everything below is dated, and where I do not know yet, I say so.

I have not listed any fixed group departures for November 2026. We run every trek privately by default, for even one traveller, and I checked our booking system before writing this: there is no November fixed departure for the treks covered here. Message us for dates and I will build the departure around you.

What is open for trekking in Nepal as of 2 October 2026?

This table started from the status I published on 29 September in our late-September flood update. On 2 October I refreshed each line with the newest dated report I could find. Where I found nothing newer, the line says "last reported" and the date. A column shows what it means for a November start. The trail and the road are shown separately, because a closed vehicle road is not the same as a closed trail. Roads and flights can change in a day, so check with us before you travel. The sources for each line are at the end of this page.

Everest / KhumbuOpen, unaffected (as of 29 September; I found no report of damage since)Lukla and four other airports were closed for poor visibility on 25 September (Kathmandu Post, 25 September). Last reported 25 September; I found no newer flight notice. Weather holds are routine in autumn. Jiri and Salleri roads (Everest by road): I found no 2026 report of damage or closure, last checked 2 October. Check with us before you travel.Normal season. Book the flight window.
Annapurna south (Annapurna Base Camp, Poon Hill, Mardi Himal)Reported open (as of 29 September)Pokhara to Baglung road lost about 150 m at Sahasradhara on 27 September (Kathmandu Post, 28 September). Repair work began from both directions on the Pokhara to Korala route on 29 September (ekantipur). On 1 October the Maldhunga bridge approach linking Baglung and Parbat was still washed away (Kathmandu Post, 1 October). I found no report that Sahasradhara has reopened; last reported 29 September.Normal season. Our routes start from Pokhara, and we confirm the road to the trailhead before you go.
Annapurna Circuit / ManangChame was hit by a flood on 27 September that swept away houses and two wooden bridges. On 30 September the road bridge at Chame bazaar was still submerged, and the Chief District Officer said Upper Manang was effectively completely blocked (Kathmandu Post, 30 September). Heavy snow on Thorong La turned back more than 150 tourists, 226 foreign tourists were in upper Manang, and all stranded tourists were reported safe, with medical and visa cases lifted out by helicopter (Nepal Press, 30 September).Besisahar to Chame road lost about 200 m at Kharkhere Bhir (Nepal Press, 27 September). On 1 October the Lamjung to Manang road link was still cut off (Kathmandu Post, 1 October). On 30 September the Chief District Officer said he could not say when it would reopen. The Dashain repair target from 28 September has not been confirmed by any later report I found.Possible, but the date matters. See below.
Mustang / Jomsom / MuktinathNo trail damage reported (as of 29 September)Beni to Jomsom to Korala road damaged at 46 points (Nepal Press, 28 September). On 29 September the corridor project chief said landslides in the Mustang and Parbat sections could be cleared within three days, but rebuilding the Pokharebagar bridge approach and clearing the major slides could take up to a week (Kathmandu Post, 29 September). On 1 October the Myagdi to Mustang road link was still cut off (Kathmandu Post). Last reported 1 October.Fly Pokhara to Jomsom. See how to reach Mustang.
Manaslu / TsumPassable with disruption (as of 28 September). Namrung crossing on a temporary wooden bridge, built after the 6 September flood. Landslide above Samagaun on 26 September.Rescue helicopters were grounded about four days by weather and resumed around 28 September. Last reported 28 September; I found no newer report on the trail, the Arughat to Soti Khola road or the Namrung bridge. Check with us before you travel.Open, route check needed before departure.
Langtang / Gosaikunda / Ruby ValleyNot accessible (as of 1 October)Rasuwa and Trishuli road closed since the 26 August flood and still not open to Syabrubesi on 1 October. A temporary track opened on the Galchhi to Betrawati section, with a Bailey bridge due within about a week (Onlinekhabar and Rising Nepal, 2 October). The Rasuwa to Nuwakot direct link was still being reconnected on 1 October (Kathmandu Post). Syabrubesi, the trailhead, was devastated, and residents cannot return because the roads are not accessible (Onlinekhabar, 1 October).Unknown. I will not promise it.
Kanchenjunga, MakaluReported open (as of 29 September)No new closures reported (as of 29 September; I did not find a newer report)Open.
Dolpo and the far westNo closure reports (as of 29 September)Named among districts with road subsidence risk in this rain spell (last reported 29 September)Check access for your exact dates.

Two of those rows are the ones to watch between now and November: the Manang road and the Langtang road. Both have repair targets or reopening questions that will be answered in the next few weeks, and I will not guess the answers for you. For the fuller trail-by-trail position after the August flood, see which treks are open after the Rasuwa flood.

Will the roads be repaired before November?

For the Besisahar to Chame road and the Pokhara to Baglung road, the repair target reported on 28 September was Dashain, which runs 11 to 25 October 2026 (Kathmandu Post, 28 September). That is a target, not a guarantee, and I treat it as one. Since then, on 1 October, officials said they expected all affected highways to be passable by Friday 2 October if no more rain fell. The same report said the Lamjung to Manang and Myagdi to Mustang links remained cut off, so I do not read it as a promise for those two, and I found no report confirming any reopening by the time of writing (Kathmandu Post, 1 October). The Beni to Jomsom to Korala road had more than a week to go as of 28 September, and up to a week as of 29 September. Langtang has no reopening date at all, although a temporary track opened on the Galchhi to Betrawati section on 2 October and the Syabrubesi end is still badly damaged.

What I can say from our own side: a trek that starts in November has at least four weeks to absorb that repair time. A trek that starts this month does not. If your dates are in November and your route depends on one of these roads, the sensible plan is to book with a flexible start. We confirm the road is open 48 hours before you set off, and if it is still cut we find you an alternative.

Our reroute rule is simple. If a section is not safe or not reachable, we change the route before we push into it, and the guide has the final say on safety over the itinerary. Your deposit is not refundable if you cancel yourself, but we reschedule for free to any date within one year with at least 72 hours notice. If we cannot run your trip, we refund what you paid less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on permits or flights.

Is the monsoon really over by November?

Yes, in every sense that matters for trekking. The late-September rain was a late tail of the monsoon, and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology had not yet declared the 2026 monsoon withdrawn on 29 September. By November the rainfall figures are tiny. These are the long-run monthly averages for November from the climate stations along the Everest route and for Pokhara, where the Annapurna treks start.

StationNovember high / low (°C)November rain (mm)
Lukla, 2,786 m13.8 / 2.46.2
Namche Bazaar, 3,450 m9.1 / -3.811
Tengboche, 3,857 m8.1 / -6.93.0
Dingboche, 4,410 m (modelled, not measured)5.3 / -11.02
Pokhara, 827 m24.4 / 12.317.2

The Everest figures come from the climate boxes on Wikipedia for each place, which name the Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the FAO and the Australian National University as sources. Dingboche is a climate-data.org model, so treat it as an estimate. Pokhara is the WMO and Department of Hydrology and Meteorology 1991 to 2020 record. I could not find station data above Dingboche, so for Gorak Shep I rely on our guides: in the second half of November nights there drop to around minus ten or colder. That is our experience, not a published measurement.

Which treks suit November best?

This is my honest ranking for a November start, with the reason and the catch for each.

TrekWhy November worksThe catchFrom (per person, 1 traveller)
Everest Base Camp, 12 daysAlmost no rain, clear skies, fewer people after the first week. The Kala Patthar sunrise is at its sharpest.Cold nights. Fixed-wing flights leave from Ramechhap (Manthali) with a pre-dawn drive. Some small lodges above Dingboche close after mid-November.USD 1,399 Budget, USD 2,499 Standard, USD 4,999 Luxury
Annapurna Base Camp, 9 daysDry, clear, still comfortable lower down. Trails reported open as of 29 September. The Pokhara to Baglung road damage is the one knock-on; last reported 29 September. We confirm before departure.USD 499 Budget, USD 799 Standard, USD 1,400 Luxury
Poon Hill, 6 daysThe shortest high-view trek and the warmest of the options. Good if time or cold is a worry. The view at Poon Hill depends on a clear dawn, which November usually gives.USD 499 Budget, USD 749 Standard, USD 1,111 Luxury
Mardi Himal, 7 daysA quiet ridge with a close view of Machhapuchhre. Pokhara is warm at the start and finish.Steep days. See the full Mardi Himal guide.USD 454 Budget, USD 849 Standard, USD 1,111 Luxury

Manaslu CircuitQuiet and clearDisrupted bridge and landslide sections, last reported 28 September. Cold at altitude.Ask us

Prices are the live per-person prices for one traveller on our package pages, and they are lower per person for larger groups. They hold the same across October and November. Kathmandu hotels are not included in any trek tier, so quote that separately. Budget has no porter and no meals, Standard has all meals and one porter for every two trekkers, and Luxury has your own porter, all meals and the round-trip helicopter to Lukla on the Everest trek.

Is November a good month for Everest Base Camp?

It is one of the two best, and the first half is the easiest. Our guides' experience, written up in EBC in November, is that days are clear and nights are properly cold, and the trail gets quieter as the month goes on. For the full month-by-month data, read Everest Base Camp weather month by month, and for the October comparison, EBC in autumn.

Two practical points matter more than anything else in November. First, the Lukla flight window. Our domestic flights guide notes that the civil aviation authority runs the Ramechhap fixed-wing operation roughly 25 September to 30 November, and that there is a backlog of two to three days when weather closes the runway. A trek that finishes in the last days of November has no spare day at the end, so build one in. Second, lodges. Some smaller lodges above Dingboche close after mid-November, and our guides book around that.

Is it too late for the Annapurna Circuit in November?

It was the last reliable month in a normal year, and this year has the extra problem of the damaged Chame road. Our guides' view, written up in Annapurna Circuit in November, is that treks starting before 10 November almost always complete the circuit, and starts after 15 November need flexibility, warmer kit and a willingness to change the plan if snow closes the pass. Some smaller teahouses above Manang close after mid-November.

The 2026 addition is the road. Chame was hit on 27 September, and the Besisahar to Chame road lost about 200 m. As of 1 October the Lamjung to Manang road link was still cut off (Kathmandu Post, 1 October). If it has not reopened by the time you fly, we find you an alternative route or starting point, and we tell you as soon as we know. The detail of what is road and what is trail is in is the Annapurna Circuit open?.

What about Manaslu, Langtang and Kailash in November?

Manaslu was closed on 6 September by the Gorkha district administration after a flash flood at Namrung and reopened on 8 September on a locally built bypass (see the Manaslu closure and reopening). On 26 September a landslide struck above Samagaun and bad weather grounded rescue helicopters for about four days. It is passable, with disruption, as last reported on 28 September; I found nothing newer. November is cold on the high crossing, and I would only run it with a route check a week before departure.

Langtang is the honest gap. The road up the Rasuwa and Trishuli valley has been closed since 26 August. As of 1 October it still did not reach Syabrubesi, where the Langtang trek starts, and Syabrubesi itself was devastated by the flood (Onlinekhabar, 1 October). I have no reopening date to give you. Our position is in the Langtang status page. If you are choosing between Langtang and a different trek for November, choose the different trek unless the road has reopened by the time you read this.

Overland Kailash by Rasuwagadhi is finished for 2026, and all our Kailash departures were suspended on 27 August. That position is in the overland Kailash update.

How crowded is the trail in November?

Quieter than October, and quieter again after the first week. Our month guide at the best time to trek Everest Base Camp rates November as high crowds easing, against very high for October. That is our judgement from guiding, not a counted figure. There are two dates to know. Dashain, the longest festival in Nepal's calendar, runs 11 to 25 October 2026 (Kathmandu Post, 28 September), and Tihar, the five-day festival of lights, runs 7 to 11 November 2026 (Wikipedia, Tihar festival; the Hamro Patro calendar gives Kaag Tihar on 7 November, Laxmi Puja on 8 November, Govardhan Puja on 10 November and Bhai Tika on 11 November). The government holiday notice for the year 2083 (Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Gazette, 18 Falgun 2082) sets the Dashain holiday at 17 to 23 October and the Tihar holiday at Kartik 22 to 26, which is 8 to 12 November 2026 on that calendar. Government offices will be shut on those days. Both festivals are family holidays, so ask us before you fix a Kathmandu day on those dates, because private offices and shops may be shut too. I have not checked their exact closures.

What should you pack for a November trek?

Everything for October plus serious warmth. We lend a down jacket and a sleeping bag free on every tier, and a duffel bag on Standard and Luxury. You still need thermal base layers in merino, insulated trousers for above 4,000 m, a warm hat, liner gloves with insulated outer gloves, and a spare camera battery, because cold drains batteries quickly. The longer list is in EBC in November.

One thing I will repeat in every post this autumn: your insurance must cover trekking to the real altitude of your route and helicopter evacuation. Buy it in your home country, not in Nepal, because local policies are often refused by the helicopter operators and hospitals at the moment you need them.

When should you not trek in Nepal in November?

Skip a November start if you hate cold evenings, because from Dingboche upward the dining room is the only warm room. Skip the Annapurna Circuit if your dates are after 15 November and you cannot add spare days. Skip Langtang until the road is open. Skip an Everest finish in the last days of November if you have a tight flight home, because the Lukla window ends on 30 November and a backlog can eat two or three days. And if a first Himalayan trek worries you, October is the safer month, with warmer days and every lodge open.

How do you book a November trek with us?

Message me on WhatsApp or email [email protected] with your dates, the trek you want and your group size, and I will tell you the current road and trail position for that exact route. The deposit is 10% for Nepal treks, and the balance is paid in Kathmandu in cash, or by card with a 3.5% bank charge. We take USD cash or card only from foreign guests, not Nepali rupees. Our October equivalent is trekking Nepal in October 2026, and the live status page is the late-September flood update.
