How much does the Pikey Peak trek cost in 2027?

I get asked about Pikey Peak more than you might expect for a trek that most people have never heard of. The questions are nearly always the same: what does it cost, is it hard, and will I really see Everest? Here is the price first, because that is what you came for.

Group sizeBudgetStandardLuxury
1 person (solo)USD 650USD 1,085USD 2,495
2 to 4 peopleUSD 380USD 1,085USD 1,815
5 to 8 peopleUSD 240USD 820USD 1,555
9 to 12 peopleUSD 230USD 800USD 1,485
13 to 20 peopleUSD 200USD 790USD 1,425

All prices are per person, in US dollars, and include VAT and our service charge. We take USD or EUR, cash or card. A 10% deposit holds the booking and you pay the balance in Kathmandu. Cash in Kathmandu has no fee. A card payment for the balance carries a 3.5% bank charge. The deposit by card has no extra fee for you.

What the three tiers actually give you

Pick Standard if you want to turn up and walk. Pick Budget only if you are happy to carry your bag and buy your own food in the lodges. A teahouse meal on the Solu trails is cheaper than the Everest Base Camp trail, so Budget trekkers should plan on a modest daily food spend. Tell us your style on WhatsApp and I will give you a straight number.

What is included and what is not (Standard)

Included: airport pick-up and drop-off, Kathmandu to Dhap and Junbesi to Kathmandu by shared tourist vehicle, lodge accommodation on the trek, all meals with tea and coffee, TIMS card and the conservation area permit, a licensed English-speaking guide, one porter for every two trekkers, a down jacket, warm sleeping bag and duffel bag on loan, and a first-aid kit with an oximeter.

Not included: Kathmandu hotels (we quote them separately), international flights and your Nepal visa, travel insurance, alcohol and bottled drinks, tips and personal spending, and any cost from delays outside our control such as weather, road conditions or strikes.

The 6-day itinerary with altitudes

DayRouteSleepTime and distance
1Kathmandu to Dhap by roadDhap, 2,850 m7 to 8 hours, 272 km
2Dhap to JhapreJhapre, 2,935 m4 to 5 hours, 7 km
3Jhapre to Pikey Base CampPikey Base Camp, 3,640 m5 hours, 9 km
4Sunrise on Pikey Peak (4,065 m), then down to JunbesiJunbesi, 2,700 m6 to 7 hours, 14 km
5Junbesi, monastery and valleyJunbesi, 2,700 m2 to 3 hours
6Junbesi to Kathmandu by roadHome8 to 9 hours, 280 km

Two long road days bracket three short walking days. That is the honest trade-off. You give up a day each way in a vehicle, and in return you skip the Lukla flight, so a cancelled flight can never wreck your trip. It is also why we are happy to run this trek in winter.

Read the day-by-day detail in my Pikey Peak trek guide and the Jhapre village guide. Junbesi, where you finish, is covered in the Junbesi village guide.

Getting there and real costs on top

You do not fly. The drive from Kathmandu to Dhap is 272 km on winding hill roads and takes most of a day. Bring something to read and motion-sickness tablets if you need them. On the trek, carry some Nepali rupees for hot showers, phone charging, snacks and tips, because there are no card machines on the trail. Beyond that, budget for your Kathmandu hotel (not included), your visa and flights, and a tip for your guide and porter at the end.

Is Pikey Peak hard? Altitude and fitness

The high point is 4,065 m, reached briefly at sunrise on day 4, and most of the trek is lower. Serious altitude problems are unlikely. You need to walk five to six hours a day on hill trails with ups and downs. No technical skill is needed. The summit morning is the one hard push, done slowly in the dark, and your guide sets an easy pace so everyone is on top for sunrise. Tell your guide at once if you get a headache, feel sick or sleep badly.

Please buy travel insurance at home that covers trekking and helicopter evacuation to 4,500 m. A basic city policy is not enough. Send us a copy and we will check it fits.
