The 13-day Langtang Gosainkunda trek: day-by-day route, price for every group size, permits, the road position and the hardest days.

Updated 18 October 2026.

Short answer: The Langtang Gosainkunda trek is 13 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. You walk up the Langtang valley to Kyanjin Gompa, cross over to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda at 4,380 m, then go over the Laurebina pass (4,610 m) and down through Helambu to Sundarijal. On our website it costs USD 749 on Budget, USD 1,505 on Standard and USD 1,999 on Luxury for two to four people. A solo traveller pays USD 1,250, USD 1,910 or USD 3,650. Spring and autumn are the best seasons, and the road to Dhunche and Syabrubesi is open as of 15 October 2026, with one change to day 1 that I explain below.

I am Shreejan. I wrote this for anyone planning the trek for 2027. It gives you the day-by-day route with the real times and heights, the price for every group size, what each tier includes, the permit fees, the road position and the days that are hardest.

These are the figures on our trip page. For a closer look at the villages, read my guides to Thulo Syabru, Cholangpati and Sing Gompa, Ghopte and Kutumsang.

Which days are the hardest?

Day 6 is long, at 21 km and a drop of nearly 1,400 m, but it is all downhill on a trail you already know. Day 8 is a steady climb of up to 1,444 m. Day 9 takes you from the tree line to the lakes, and you sleep at 4,380 m, so go slowly and drink water. Day 10 is the hardest of the trip. You climb to the Laurebina pass at 4,610 m, then walk down for hours to Ghopte. Start early, because the weather turns in the afternoon.

The slow start in the Langtang valley is what makes the lakes manageable. By day 9 you have already spent three nights above 3,400 m in the valley, including a rest day at Kyanjin. That is the main reason I prefer this route to the 5-day trip for anyone new to altitude. Read my guides to acclimatisation and preventing altitude sickness.

Is the road to Syabrubesi open?

As of 15 October 2026 the road to Dhunche and Syabrubesi is open again after the flood of 26 August. There are no hotels running in Syabrubesi at the moment, so on day 1 we walk on from the road head to the first open lodge on the trail. That changes the shape of day 1, not the trek. I cannot promise the road stays open into winter. We check the road and the trail 48 hours before every departure and tell you if the plan changes. My status notes are in Langtang in November and December and in Langtang in 2027.

How much does the Langtang Gosainkunda trek cost?

These are the prices on the trip page on 18 October 2026, per person. The price does not change by month, and it holds for 2027 departures.

Group sizeBudgetStandardLuxury
1 personUSD 1,250USD 1,910USD 3,650
2 to 4 peopleUSD 749USD 1,505USD 1,999
5 to 8 peopleUSD 699USD 1,320USD 1,949
9 to 12 peopleUSD 649USD 1,260USD 1,899
13 to 20 peopleUSD 599USD 1,235USD 1,849

Pricing is the same for a private trek and a group, and it falls only by group size. We never add strangers to a private booking, and you can join one of our fixed departures at the same price if you want company. The solo price is higher because one person carries the whole cost of the guide, the transport and the permits.

The tier changes four things.

BudgetStandardLuxury
PorterNone. You carry your own bag.One porter for every two trekkers, 10 kg eachOne dedicated porter per trekker
Meals on the trekNot includedBreakfast, lunch and dinner, plus fresh fruit once a dayAll meals with fruit and nuts, and all drinks except alcohol
RoomsShared roomsPrivate twin room, attached bathroom where possiblePrivate deluxe room
Transport at each endLocal transportShared tourist vehiclePrivate vehicle

A solo traveller on Standard has no porter, because porters are shared one for two. Your guide carries up to 10 kg of your bag. On Luxury a solo traveller still has their own porter. A porter of your own on Standard or Budget costs USD 25 a day, plus 13 per cent VAT and the 3.5 per cent bank charge on top.

What do the permits cost, and what is not in the price?

Our price includes three permits. The official fees are NPR 3,000 for Langtang National Park, NPR 2,000 for a TIMS card and NPR 1,000 for Shivapuri National Park, which you cross near the end. We buy all of them. A licensed guide is also required inside Langtang National Park, and one is included in every tier.

Not in the price: your international flights, your Nepal visa (USD 50 for 30 days, paid in cash on arrival), your Kathmandu hotel, travel insurance bought at home, tips for the team, and on Budget your meals. Our trip notes suggest about USD 20 a day for snacks, hot showers, charging and other extras.

Your insurance must cover medical costs and helicopter rescue up to 5,000 m. That is set above the highest point on this trek on purpose, because a rescue helicopter has to fly higher than you are standing. The optional Tserko Ri viewpoint on the Kyanjin day is about 4,984 m. Please send us your policy details within a week of booking.

When is the best time to go?

MonthsWhat to expectMy view
March to MayWarmer, with rhododendron forest on the lower trail. Afternoon cloud is common.Very good
June to AugustMonsoon. Rain, leeches on the lower trail and cloud over the views. Not for this route
September to NovemberClearer air and dry trails. Cold nights at the lakes, colder each week into November.Best, especially October
December to FebruaryVery cold, short days, snow on the pass and frozen lakes.Hard, and snow may block the pass

I have no weather-station reading for the high trail, so I describe the seasons and not the degrees. For month-by-month detail on the Helambu end of the route, read Helambu month by month, and for the valley in autumn, Langtang in October.

Questions people ask

How long is the Langtang Gosainkunda trek? 13 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu with us, with a drive at the start and another at the end, and a rest day at Kyanjin.

How much does it cost? From USD 749 on Budget, USD 1,505 on Standard and USD 1,999 on Luxury for two to four people. Solo travellers pay USD 1,250, USD 1,910 or USD 3,650.

What is the best month? October. March to May is the second choice.

Is the Langtang trek open in 2026? As of 15 October 2026 the road to Dhunche and Syabrubesi is open. Lodges in Syabrubesi are not running yet, so day 1 changes. Ask me for the latest position when you enquire.

Can I trek it solo? Yes, with a guide. See the solo prices above.

Is it better than the 8-day Langtang trek? It is longer and higher. The 8-day trip is the valley only. This one adds the lakes, the pass and the villages of Helambu.

What are the booking terms?

The deposit is 10 per cent. It is non-refundable and there is no refund if you cancel, but you can move your trip free of charge to any date within one year with at least 72 hours notice. If we cannot run the trip ourselves, we refund what you paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on permits and flights. You pay the balance in Kathmandu, in US dollars or euros, cash or card. Card carries a 3.5 per cent bank charge and cash carries none. We do not take Nepali rupees from foreign guests.
