Annapurna Base Camp Trek Cost From Australia: The All-In Numbers for 2027

Updated 2 November 2026.
Short answer: The Annapurna Base Camp trek costs an Australian about AUD 1,030 (USD 725) on Budget, AUD 1,865 (USD 1,310) on Standard and AUD 2,980 (USD 2,095) on Luxury, per person, for two to four people on our 9-day trek from Kathmandu. Permits and your licensed guide are in that price. Your flights, the Nepal visa (USD 50 for 30 days, about AUD 70), insurance that covers 4,500 m, your Kathmandu hotel and tips are extra. Our prices are in US dollars. The AUD figures are only approximate.
I am Shreejan. From Australia the trek is often the smaller part of the bill, because the flight from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth can cost more than a Budget trek. Here is each cost on its own, with the arithmetic.
What does the Annapurna Base Camp trek cost, in Australian dollars?
These are the prices on our Annapurna Base Camp trek page, read on 2 November 2026. Every trek is private with your own guide. Only the size of your group changes the price.
| Group size | Budget | Standard | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 to 4 people, per person | USD 725 (about AUD 1,030) | USD 1,310 (about AUD 1,865) | USD 2,095 (about AUD 2,980) |
| 1 person (solo) | USD 1,250 (about AUD 1,780) | USD 1,725 (about AUD 2,455) | USD 3,465 (about AUD 4,930) |
Larger groups pay less each, and the page lists the bands for 5 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 to 20 people. The conversion is USD 1 = AUD 1.4236, worked out from the European Central Bank reference rates of 30 October 2026 (EUR 1 = USD 1.1172 and AUD 1.5904). Rates move every day. You pay us in US dollars or euros, never in Australian dollars or rupees, so the dollar price is the one that counts.
What is the difference between the three tiers?
Budget means no porter. You carry your own bag, and you pay for your own meals in the teahouses. Standard has all meals and one porter for every two trekkers. Luxury gives you your own porter. The porter rule is the law, a maximum of 20 kg per porter, so on Standard that is 10 kg each, and on Luxury your bag can weigh up to 20 kg.
The road transport also changes. Budget travels by local shared vehicle, Standard by shared tourist vehicle, Luxury by private vehicle. If you are travelling alone on Standard, there is no porter, because porters are shared two to one. The guide carries up to 10 kg for you.

Which flights get you from Australia to Kathmandu?
There is no nonstop flight, so you will have one or two changes. I will not print a fare here, because fares change daily and I do not want you to plan around a number I saw on one morning. Look at the airlines and the hubs, then search your own dates.
On a search I made for Sydney in our Everest Base Camp cost from Australia guide on 6 October, the options were Air India through Delhi, Qatar Airways through Doha, Thai Airways through Bangkok, and China Southern or Sichuan Airlines through Guangzhou or Chengdu. Journeys ran from about 18 hours to about 23 hours out.
I priced only Sydney, so I cannot tell you what Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth cost, or which one has the shortest trip. Perth is the closest to Nepal on the map. Nepal is 2 hours 15 minutes behind Perth, and 5 hours 15 minutes behind Sydney while daylight saving is on. If you transit China, check the transit rules for your passport before you book. Our Nepal trekking from Australia page has the wider picture.
How much is the Nepal visa for Australians?
You buy it on arrival at Kathmandu airport. The Department of Immigration lists the fees as USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days and USD 125 for 90 days (its visa information page, read on 2 November 2026). For a 9-day trek plus days in Kathmandu and Pokhara, the 15-day visa can work, but a weather or road delay would leave you tight, so I suggest the 30-day visa at about AUD 70. You fill in the arrival card and the online form first, pay at the bank counter, then see the officer. The official page says to carry some cash, and I would carry US dollars. Our Nepal visa on arrival guide has the full steps.
What does it cost to get from Kathmandu to Pokhara and the trailhead?
On our trek this is already paid. Day 1 is the drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, usually 7 to 8 hours. On day 2 you drive about 1.5 hours to Nayapul and start walking to Ghandruk. The same drives come back on days 8 and 9. There are no flights on this plan.
If you are comparing with a do-it-yourself trip, I do not have a firm fare to give you. Fares on tourist buses change with the season and the bus type, and the pages I found were either undated or did not print a price. A Kathmandu to Pokhara bus guide published in May 2026 puts the journey at 7 to 9 hours. A flight is quicker, and I wrote up the choice in getting from Kathmandu to Pokhara. If you are already in Pokhara, our 7-day version saves both long drives.
Do I need special travel insurance?
Yes. The base camp is at 4,130 m, and the rule I use is to cover the highest point of the trek rounded up to the next 500 m. That makes 4,500 m. Your policy must also cover emergency helicopter rescue and medical costs. We ask for your insurance details within a week of booking, because we use them if we ever need to arrange an evacuation.
Buy it in Australia, before you fly, and do not buy it in Nepal. Medicare does not follow you there. Read the product disclosure statement for the words trekking, altitude and helicopter, since some free card cover stops well below 4,500 m. Send us the wording and we will read it. More in what travel insurance you need for Nepal.
What else should I budget for?
Kathmandu hotels are not in the trek price, and I quote them separately. Our family homestay is USD 15 per person per night. On Budget you also pay for meals on the trail, about USD 15 to 25 a day, and more as you climb. If you count seven days on the trail, that is roughly USD 105 to 175, about AUD 150 to 250. Standard and Luxury include meals.
Tips for your team are not in the price either. Our tipping guide suggests about USD 15 to 20 a day for a guide and USD 10 to 15 for a porter.
A rough Budget total, for two to four people, before flights, insurance, hotels and tips: AUD 1,030 for the trek, AUD 70 for the visa and AUD 150 to 250 for meals. That is about AUD 1,250 to 1,350. Your flight goes on top.
When should Australians go?
Your spring is Nepal's autumn, and the main season is October and November. The second season is March and April, when the rhododendron forest is in flower on the lower trail. Easter 2027 runs from Good Friday, 26 March, to Easter Monday, 29 March, so late March can suit a family break. The table uses rain at Pokhara (1991 to 2020) and typical night lows at base camp (2015 to 2024) from our trek page, and the last column is my view.
| Month | Rain at Pokhara (mm) | Night low at base camp (C) | My view |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 21.6 | -14 | Hard, not for a first winter trek |
| February | 35.1 | -12 | Hard, not for a first winter trek |
| March | 63.7 | -9 | Good |
| April | 141.7 | -5 | Good, flowers lower down, more cloud later in the day |
| May | 354.7 | -1 | Possible with care, least reliable views |
| June | 648.2 | 4 | Not recommended |
| July | 941.0 | 7 | Not recommended |
| August | 839.4 | 6 | Not recommended |
| September | 635.0 | 4 | Not recommended |
| October | 159.2 | -1 | Best, late October better than early |
| November | 17.2 | -6 | Best, clearest days and colder nights |
| December | 11.5 | -9 | Possible early, hard from mid-month |

How do I pay from Australia?
A 10% deposit confirms your dates, USD 72.50 per person on Budget, and we cover the 3.5% card charge on it. You pay the balance when you arrive in Kathmandu, in US dollars or euros. Cash has no charge. A card payment carries 3.5%. We cannot take Australian dollars or Nepali rupees, so change at home or use a card.
Questions people ask
How much is the Annapurna Base Camp trek from Australia?
For the trek, about AUD 1,030 on Budget, AUD 1,865 on Standard and AUD 2,980 on Luxury per person for two to four. Add your return flight, the visa, insurance, hotel nights and tips. The flight is the number I cannot give you, so search your dates.
Is Annapurna Base Camp cheaper than Everest Base Camp from Australia?
Yes. The trek itself is cheaper, USD 725 against USD 1,399 on Budget for two to four, and you need no Lukla flight. The flight from Australia to Kathmandu is the same journey for both. ABC is also lower, 4,130 m against 5,545 m at Kala Patthar, so the insurance and altitude questions are easier. My Everest Base Camp cost from Australia guide has that side.
Do I need to be very fit to do ABC?
You need to be a regular walker. The days are 5 to 7 hours, and the climb from Chomrong to Deurali gains about 1,000 m. I rate it Moderate. Read how difficult Annapurna Base Camp is before you commit.
Are permits included in the price?
Yes, ACAP and TIMS are both in the price. The ACAP fee is NPR 3,000 for a foreigner and TIMS is NPR 2,000, according to the Nepal Tourism Board. See ACAP and TIMS explained.
Should I take 9 days, or fewer?
Nine days from Kathmandu lets you walk in, sleep one night at base camp and walk out without rushing. If you are already in Pokhara, the 7-day version skips the two long drives. Annapurna Base Camp in 5, 7 or 9 days compares them.
Can I trek alone from Australia?
Yes. Solo is welcome and the trek is private. You pay more, since nobody shares the guide, and the solo prices are in the table above. Groups run from 1 to 20.
If you tell me your dates and where you fly from, I will send you a price for your group on WhatsApp, +977 9810351300.
