Last updated 16 October 2026.

Short answer: Our Muktinath Helicopter Day Tour from Pokhara flies your group in a private helicopter from Pokhara to Muktinath, at about 3,800 m, with up to about an hour on the ground, and back the same day. The price per person falls with each guest: on Budget it is USD 5,205 for one person, USD 2,640 each for two, USD 1,780 each for three and USD 1,350 each for four. It suits pilgrims and families who want to visit the temple without the long road journey.

I am Shreejan. Muktinath is sacred to Hindus and Buddhists, and many of the people who ask me about it are older, or short of time, or both. A helicopter turns a journey of several days into one morning. Here is how it works and what it costs.

How does the day run?

StepWhat happens
MorningPick-up from your Pokhara hotel and transfer to the helicopter base
FlightNorth towards Muktinath, with the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges around you
On the groundA landing with up to about 1 hour, depending on the weather
ReturnFlight back to Pokhara and the transfer to your hotel

At the temple, pilgrims bathe under the 108 water spouts, and the Jwala Mai flame burns beside a spring in the shrine. An hour is enough to visit the temple at a steady pace. The pilot makes the final call on the day, and if the weather stops a landing we tell you before you fly. For the background to the site, read our Muktinath pilgrimage guide.

Budget gives you the helicopter, the landing, the hotel transfers by vehicle, the permits and the taxes. Standard adds a private vehicle for the transfers and an English-speaking escort guide for the day. The guide looks after your transfers, permits and briefing, and stays on the ground while you fly. Luxury adds an SUV-class vehicle and lunch. The helicopter itself is the same on every option: it is chartered for your group alone, up to four guests, so you never share with strangers.

Included on every option: the private helicopter, the landing, hotel transfers in Pokhara, the Annapurna Conservation Area permit and TIMS card, airport tax and government taxes. Not included: your Pokhara hotel and getting to Pokhara, meals except Luxury lunch, insurance, the visa, tips, and any extra landing time or change to the flight plan on the day.

Which permits are in the price?

PermitForeign visitorIn the price
Annapurna Conservation Area permitNPR 3,000Yes
TIMS cardNPR 2,000Yes
Damodar Kund special permit (only with the extension)USD 50 per personNo, paid with the extension

Can you add Damodar Kund?

Yes, for an extra charge per helicopter, with about 15 to 20 minutes on the ground at the lake. A licensed guide has to fly with you, so up to three guests can go. It needs a special permit, USD 85 per person with handling and taxes on top of the conservation area permit, and we need clear passport copies at least 7 days before the flight. The extra is shown with the add-ons when you book.

When is the best time to fly?

MonthsWhat to expect
March to MayGood flying weather; cloud can build later in the day
June to SeptemberMustang lies in the rain shadow, but the helicopter still needs clear weather on the route
October and NovemberThe most settled weather and the clearest views
December to FebruaryVery cold at the temple and outside our best-time window

Our best-time window for this tour is March to November.

Is the altitude a problem?

You go from Pokhara at about 820 m to about 3,800 m in one flight, with no time to acclimatise. Walk slowly, drink water, and tell us about any heart, lung or blood-pressure condition before you book. Dress warmly: it is cold at the temple even on a clear morning.

What insurance do you need?

Your policy should cover helicopter flights and altitude up to 4,000 m. Buy it at home before you travel. We do not recommend insurance bought in Nepal.
