Where you sleep each night on the Manaslu Circuit, what the teahouse rooms are really like, how cold it gets, what to bring and what 2027 costs. With the current route status.

Updated 21 October 2026. Lodge names and prices checked against published sources in October 2026.

Short answer: On the Manaslu Circuit you sleep in simple teahouses every night. There are no hotels in the usual sense. Rooms are small twin rooms with thin mattresses, toilets are mostly shared, and the rooms are not heated. The beds get colder and the lodges get simpler as you climb: Samagaun (3,530 m) is the biggest village with the best choice, and Samdo (3,875 m) and Dharamsala (4,480 m) are the plainest. Our 12-day trek, with all four permits, costs USD 799 Budget, USD 1,599 Standard and USD 2,665 Luxury per person for two to four people. Important: the route was cut by floods in September and October 2026, so check the current status with me before you plan.

I am Shreejan. Most Manaslu questions I get are about permits and the pass. The ones that matter just as much on the day are about where you will sleep, what you will eat and how cold you will be. This page is the honest version, night by night, using our own itinerary.

Where do you sleep each night on the Manaslu Circuit?

The heights come from our own itinerary and published trekking sources, so read them as approximate. The stop-by-stop details are in our guides to Deng and Dharamsala, the night before the pass.

What are the rooms and lodges like?

Part of the trekWhat to expect
Machha Khola to NamrungFamily-run lodges. Twin rooms with two single beds, a thin foam mattress and a blanket. Shared toilets are normal, and some rooms have an attached bathroom. Hot water is usually a bucket or a solar shower, and sometimes costs extra
Shyala and SamagaunBigger lodges, a dining room with a stove in the evening, and the best food on the trek. Samagaun is where you rest, so choose your day there carefully. Samdo and Samagaun have showers for a fee
Samdo and DharamsalaThe simplest. Small rooms, cold nights, a shared dining room that is the only warm place.
BhimtangA broad, open valley with bigger lodges and a warmer feel after the pass

This table is my own experience of the route. Below it, the details come from published trekking pages I checked in October 2026, and they are typical, not promised. Lodge owners and prices change from season to season.

Which lodges and teahouses are on the route?

One agency guide, from Peregrine Treks, lists these guesthouses by village. I have not stayed in every one, so take it as a list of names, not a recommendation. After the floods, ask before you count on any of them.

StopGuesthouses listed
Soti KholaABC Guest House, Fulbari Guest House, Green Valley Guest House, Satkar Guest House
Machha KholaLarkey Guest House, Everest Guest House, Hilltop Guest House
JagatJagat Guest House, Himalayan Tourist Guest House, Manaslu Santi Guest House
DengWindy Valley Guest House, Shangrila Cottage, New Manaslu Guest House
NamrungNamrung Thakali Guest House, Namrung Guest House
LhoTashi Dalek Guest House, Namaste Guest House, Lama Guest House
SamagaunMount Manaslu Guest House, Sama Gaun Guest House, Peace Heaven Guest House, Norling Guest House, Nubri Valley Guest House, Gurung Cottage Guest House
SamdoYak Hotel, Tibetan Twin Hotel, Jambala Guest House
DharamsalaJambala Guest House, Larkey Guest House
BimthangMountain Poker Cottage, Ganga Manaslu, Sushma Guest House, Himalayan Guest House

I found no named lodges for Shyala or Dharapani. Some names appear on more than one village's list, so even the published lists do not agree.

What do rooms, showers, charging and Wi-Fi cost?

ItemWhat published sources say
RoomAbout USD 3 to 5 a night low down in the busy season, about USD 7 to 10 at the higher stops. Two sources give a wider range of about USD 5 to 12 for the whole route
BathroomSome lodges at Soti Khola, Samagaun and Dharapani have an attached bathroom. Higher up, toilets are shared
DharamsalaBasic, shared rooms with up to 8 to 10 beds, shared toilets and no shower
Hot showerUsually for a fee at Namrung, Samagaun, Samdo and Bimthang. Not available at Jagat, Deng or Dharamsala, where a solar shower is the most you get
ChargingSolar at Jagat, sometimes for a fee. I found no firm price
Wi-FiSold in some lodges at Soti Khola, Jagat, Namrung, Lho, Samdo, Bimthang and Dharapani, for an extra fee. Slow, and not reliable
FoodAbout USD 20 to 30 a day for three meals and snacks. A dal bhat is about USD 5 to 8 at the higher stops, and prices rise as you climb

These are typical figures from agency pages, some of them undated. I could not find a reliable price in rupees. Treat everything as about that amount. On Standard and Luxury the meals are in the price, and on Luxury the hot showers, charging and Wi-Fi are covered where they exist.

What changed after the floods?

Two floods hit the valley. The 6 September 2026 flood destroyed houses and two suspension bridges near Namrung. The Kathmandu Post reported on 12 and 14 October that the 11 October flood washed away hotels and homes along the Budhi Gandaki, which had been readied for the October season, and left trekkers stranded near Jagat. I did not find a list of which lodges were damaged. So the lodge names above are from before the floods and I cannot tell you which are standing. I will check each stop with our guides before any departure.

What should I bring for the nights?

A warm sleeping bag is the one thing I would not leave behind. The lodges give you a blanket, but at Samdo and Dharamsala it is not enough. If you do not have a bag, we lend a sleeping bag and a down jacket. Bring a liner, a head torch for the toilet at night, earplugs, a power bank and slippers. Electricity is by solar panel in many lodges, so charging may be limited, slow or paid. My full list is in the Manaslu packing list. For what the rooms are like across Nepal, read the teahouse guide.

What do the three tiers change?

BudgetStandardLuxury
RoomsShared rooms in teahousesPrivate rooms, an attached bathroom where one existsThe best private rooms available, deluxe with ensuite where available
MealsNot includedAll mealsAll meals, fruit and nuts, unlimited soft drinks
PorterNone, you carry your bag1 porter for every 2 trekkers, 10 kg each1 porter for each trekker, bag up to 20 kg

On this route "luxury" is relative. There are no five-star lodges on the Manaslu trail, and I will not promise one. Luxury here means a private room as good as the village has, your own porter and better food, not a hotel. The upgrade is real, but small compared with the same tier on the Everest trail.

Is the Manaslu Circuit open now?

No, not as I write this. A flood on 6 September 2026 cut the trail near Namrung, and a second flash flood on 11 October 2026 damaged the Soti bridge and lower road. We are not running Manaslu or Tsum departures until the route is rebuilt and confirmed safe. Read what happened on 11 October. For 2027 I will check the route with local guides before every departure and I will not guess a reopening date. If you hold a booking, I will move your dates for free or switch you to another trek.

When is the best time to go?

MonthsWhat to expect
October and NovemberClearest air. Lodges are fullest, so book early
December to FebruaryVery cold. The pass may close with snow
March to MayGood second season. Rhododendrons low down, cold nights high up
June to SeptemberMonsoon. Wet trail, landslides on the road and fewer lodges open high up

See best time month by month for the longer version.

What does it cost in 2027?

These are the prices on the trip page today, in US dollars per person. The price falls as the group grows.

Group sizeBudgetStandardLuxury
1 (solo)1,5952,2054,015
2 to 47991,5992,665
5 to 87491,5492,565
9 to 126991,4991,999
13 to 206491,4491,949

The price includes the transport, the rooms, the Manaslu restricted-area permit, the conservation-area permits, TIMS, a licensed guide and the government taxes. Standard and Luxury include meals. Budget does not include meals. Kathmandu hotels are not in any tier. A solo trekker on Standard has no porter, and the guide carries up to 10 kg. Luxury solo has a dedicated porter. For the four permits in full, read Manaslu permits explained.

Frequently asked questions

What are the teahouses like on the Manaslu Circuit? Simple family-run lodges with twin rooms, thin mattresses and mostly shared toilets. They get colder and plainer above Samagaun.

Do the rooms have heating? No. The warm place is the dining room in the evening. Bring a proper sleeping bag.

Is there Wi-Fi or phone signal? Patchy at best. Some lodges sell Wi-Fi or a local SIM can work in places, but do not rely on either. Tell family you may be out of contact for days.

Can I get a private room on the Manaslu Circuit? Yes on Standard and Luxury. On Budget, rooms are shared. In peak season, rooms in the high lodges can run out, which is another reason we book ahead.

How much does food cost on the trail? It is included on Standard and Luxury. On Budget, you pay for meals yourself and prices rise as you climb. I will give you a current figure when you write.

Is the Manaslu Circuit safe to trek in 2027? I do not run it unless the route has been checked. After the 2026 floods I will confirm the bridges and trail with our guides before every departure.

Can I trek Manaslu alone? Yes, with a licensed guide, through a registered agency. See the solo permit guide.

What insurance do I need? Cover bought at home, with helicopter evacuation, to 5,500 m. The Larkya La is 5,160 m and I round up to the next 500 m.

How do payment and cancellation work?

You pay a deposit of 10 per cent to book and the balance when you meet us in Kathmandu, in US dollars or euros, in cash or by card. Cash carries no fee, and card carries a 3.5 per cent bank charge. We cannot take Nepali rupees from foreign guests.

The deposit is non-refundable, and there is no refund if you cancel yourself. I can move your trip free of charge to any date within one year, with at least 7 days notice for a restricted area. If we cannot run the trip, we refund what you have paid, less taxes, bank or card charges and any money already spent on your behalf.
