Our Story: A Three-Generation Legacy in the Himalayas

At The Everest Holiday, we don't just sell trekking packages; we share a legacy that has been carved into the Himalayan trails for over sixty years.

Where It Started

Our story begins in the 1960s with Hari Lal Simkhada, our grandfather. In the early days of Himalayan exploration, long before luxury teahouses and helicopters, Hari Lal was one of the local pioneers who supported the first waves of international expeditions. He wasn't a businessman with a flashy office; he was a man of the mountains whose deep knowledge of the terrain and local culture became the foundation of our family's tradition.

The Second Generation

The torch was passed to Ganesh Prasad Simkhada, who dedicated his life to professionalising the industry he loved. Ganesh held senior positions in Nepal's most respected institutions, including the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). He didn't just lead treks; he helped shape the very policies that keep trekkers safe today.

The Everest Holiday Today

In 2016, Shreejan Simkhada (Joe) and Shamjhana Basukala (Sam) founded The Everest Holiday to carry this legacy into the modern era. As a third-generation guide, Shreejan was a first responder during the 2015 earthquake and has been a dedicated social worker since 2011. Together with Sam, they run a 100% local, family-owned agency where you aren't just a client—you are part of our family.

Our Heart: Nagarjun Learning Center

We believe that the mountains should give back to the people who live in their shadows. In 2019, we founded the Nagarjun Learning Center to provide free education, hot meals, and medical care to children in rural villages like Saldum. Today, we support over 70 children across 7 centres.

We are proud to share that our charity work is verified and listed on the UN Partner Portal, a recognition of the transparency and impact of our mission. A portion of every booking you make with The Everest Holiday goes directly to supporting these children.
