Nepal's Most Trusted Everest Trek Operator — Three Generations, One Family

You've searched "Everest tours Nepal" and found hundreds of companies. Here's the honest truth: most of them are booking agents who subcontract to ground operators like us. When you book with The Everest Holiday, you're booking directly with the family that runs your trek — no middlemen, no markup, no surprises.

Our grandfather Hari Lal Simkhada arranged logistics for Himalayan expeditions in the 1960s. Our father Ganesh Prasad Simkhada held senior positions at the Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal Mountaineering Association. Today, Shreejan Simkhada and Shamjhana Basukala run The Everest Holiday with 80+ guides and staff — all government-licensed, many with Bachelor's degrees in Mountaineering.

Best Time for Everest Tours

October and November (Peak Season)

The skies are at their clearest. Temperatures are cold but manageable. The trails are busy but not overcrowded if you're on a private trek. This is when most of our clients come, and for good reason. You'll see Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam without a single cloud blocking the view.

March to May (Spring)

Warmer temperatures make the lower trails more comfortable. Rhododendron forests bloom red and pink below Tengboche. The snow line is higher, which means better trail conditions on the approach. April is particularly good for photography.

December to February (Winter)

Cold. Very cold above 4,000m. But the trails are empty and the views are extraordinary on clear days. We recommend this only for experienced trekkers comfortable with temperatures dropping to -15°C at night. The trade-off is worth it if you want the Khumbu to yourself.

June to August (Monsoon)

We don't operate Everest treks during the monsoon. The trails are slippery, leeches are active, and cloud cover blocks the mountain views that make this trek worth doing. If you're visiting Nepal in summer, consider Upper Mustang or Dolpo instead, as these regions sit in the rain shadow.

What a Typical Day Looks Like on an Everest Trek

You wake up around 6am in a teahouse. Your guide has already ordered breakfast. Over porridge, eggs, or Tibetan bread with honey, you discuss the day's route. By 7:30am you're walking.

The morning is the best part. Cool air, clear skies, the mountains turning gold as the sun rises over the ridge. You walk for 3-4 hours, stopping at a teahouse for lunch around noon. Dal bhat is the smart choice — rice, lentils, vegetables, pickle. Unlimited refills and more energy than any protein bar.

After lunch, another 2-3 hours of walking. Your guide sets the pace based on how you're feeling, not a fixed schedule. If you want to stop at a monastery, photograph a mani wall, or just sit on a rock and stare at the mountains for twenty minutes, nobody rushes you.

You reach your teahouse by 3-4pm. Hot tea, maybe a game of cards with your guide, dinner at 6pm. By 8pm you're in your sleeping bag, listening to the wind outside and wondering how you got this lucky.

Who Our Everest Tours Are For

We've guided solo trekkers in their twenties, retired couples in their seventies, families with teenagers, honeymooners, corporate teams, and a grandmother who celebrated her 72nd birthday at Everest Base Camp. There's no single type of person who treks to Everest.

What they all share: curiosity, a reasonable level of fitness, and the willingness to walk 5-7 hours a day for about ten days. You don't need mountaineering skills. You don't need expensive gear. You don't need to be an athlete. You need decent boots, a warm sleeping bag, and the willingness to take it one step at a time.

If you're unsure whether you're fit enough, start with our Everest View Trek (7 days). It reaches Namche Bazaar at 3,440m with direct Everest views but doesn't push into the higher altitudes. Many of our clients do the View Trek first and come back for the full EBC the following year.

What Makes Our Everest Tours Different

Every Everest tour company in Nepal will take you to the same Base Camp. The difference is how you get there and who walks beside you.

Our guides carry pulse oximeters and monitor your oxygen levels twice daily above 3,500m. We build acclimatisation days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche into every itinerary — not as optional extras, but as essential safety measures. If altitude sickness symptoms appear, we descend immediately. No argument, no delay.

We also know the Khumbu region personally. When your guide greets the teahouse owner in Namche by name, when we know which lodge in Gorak Shep has the warmest rooms, when we can make one phone call to arrange emergency evacuation — that's the difference between a company that sells Everest tours and a family that lives them.

How We Compare to International Operators

What You Get International Operator The Everest Holiday
EBC 12-day price $3,000-5,500 $650-1,799
Who runs your trek? Subcontracted local company Us. Directly.
Group or private? Fixed group of 12-16 Private. Just you.
Guide selection Assigned by subcontractor Personally selected by Shreejan
Pace flexibility Fixed schedule for the group Your pace, your schedule
Payment security Credit card to foreign company Himalayan Bank Ltd gateway
Company heritage Corporate brand, started in offices Three generations, started on trails
Your money goes to Marketing, offices, shareholders Guides, porters, children's education

The international operators who appear at the top of Google results — Intrepid, G Adventures, REI Adventures — are excellent companies. But they don't operate treks themselves. They contract the work to Nepali companies. We are one of those Nepali companies. When you book with us, you remove one layer of cost and one layer of distance between you and the people who'll actually walk beside you on the mountain.

The Route at a Glance

The classic EBC route follows the Dudh Koshi river valley north from Lukla (2,860m) through Sherpa villages, across suspension bridges, past Buddhist monasteries, and up through increasingly stark alpine landscape to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Kala Patthar (5,545m).

Key stops along the way: Namche Bazaar (the Khumbu capital, acclimatisation day here), Tengboche (the famous monastery with Ama Dablam behind it), Dingboche (second acclimatisation day), Lobuche (last village before the glacier), Gorak Shep (the final teahouse settlement), and Base Camp itself, where you stand on the Khumbu Glacier looking up at the Everest icefall that climbers ascend.

The return follows the same route in reverse, descending quickly. Most trekkers feel an immediate energy boost as they drop below 4,000m. The last night in Namche is often the most celebratory of the trip.

Your Trek Supports Children's Education

A portion of every booking supports the Nagarjun Learning Center, founded by our family in 2019. We provide free education and hot meals to 70 children across 7 learning centres, free medical care to 600+ people, and empowerment programmes for 275+ women. The centre is verified and listed on the UN Partner Portal.

When you trek with us, your adventure directly funds a child's education in rural Nepal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an Everest tour cost from Nepal?

Our EBC 12-day trek starts at $650 (Budget), $1,072 (Standard), or $1,799 (Luxury) per person. International operators charge $3,000-5,000 for the same trek because they subcontract to companies like us and add their margin.

Do I need a guide for Everest?

Yes. Since 2023, Nepal law requires all trekkers to have a licensed guide. Our guides are government-trained and many hold degrees in Mountaineering.

What's the best time for an Everest trek?

October-November (clearest skies, stable weather) and March-May (spring flowers, warming temperatures). We operate year-round except during the June-August monsoon.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be able to walk 5-7 hours daily on uneven terrain. No mountaineering skills needed. We recommend starting a training programme 8-12 weeks before your trek.

Is Everest Base Camp dangerous?

With proper acclimatisation and an experienced guide, EBC is a safe trek. Our guides carry pulse oximeters, first aid kits, and have direct contact with helicopter rescue services. Travel insurance with evacuation cover is mandatory.

Can I do a shorter Everest trek?

Yes. Our Everest View Trek (7 days) reaches Namche Bazaar with Everest views but doesn't go to Base Camp. Our Helicopter Return option (10 days) treks to EBC then flies back, saving 3 days.

How do I pay?

Pay a 10% deposit online through our secure Himalayan Bank Limited payment gateway. The remaining balance is due before your trek. We also accept bank transfers via Wise.

Is your company legitimate?

We are Government Registered (147653/072/073), hold Tourism License 2838/072, and are TAAN Member #1586. We have 320+ verified reviews, were selected by Nepal Tourism Board for MATKA 2026 Helsinki, and our charity is verified on the UN Partner Portal. We are happy to provide references.
