Best Time for the Everest View Trek, Month by Month for 2027
Updated 28 October 2026.
Short answer: The best weeks for the Everest View trek in 2027 are mid October to mid November, with April as the second choice. Because the trek stays low (the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m is the highest point, and you sleep no higher than Namche at 3,440 m on the 5-day or Tengboche at 3,860 m on the 7-day), December to February also works if you can handle cold nights. Avoid June to mid September. For two to four people, the 7-day trek costs USD 1,565 Budget, USD 2,030 Standard and USD 3,645 Luxury per person, and the 5-day trek costs USD 1,405, USD 1,730 and USD 3,030.
I am Shreejan. Most "best time" pages for Everest are written for the Base Camp trek, where you sleep above 5,000 m and January can be dangerous. The Everest View trek is a different question. You never go that high, so the cold matters less and the flight matters more. Below I go month by month, using published weather records, and I say where it is our guides' experience and not a published figure.
Everest View trek best time at a glance
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Best weeks | Mid October to mid November. The first half of November is my pick |
| Second best | April, and March into May with more cloud |
| Good and quiet | Late November to February, if you are fine with cold nights |
| Avoid | June to mid September (monsoon), and the Dashain days in early October |

How the weather changes month by month at Lukla, Namche and Tengboche
These are average daily highs and lows in degrees Celsius, and the average rain in millimetres at Lukla. Lukla figures are from Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (1991 to 2020). Namche is from the FAO climate database. Tengboche is from FAO and the Australian National University record. There is no weather station at Syangboche, the ridge where the Everest View Hotel stands. It is about 430 m higher than Namche, so as a rough estimate (6.5 degrees cooler per 1,000 m) expect about 3 degrees colder than the Namche column. That is my estimate, not a measurement.
| Month | Lukla (2,786 m) | Namche (3,450 m) | Tengboche (3,857 m) | Lukla rain | My verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 8.3 / -2.9 | 6.9 / -8.5 | 3.7 / -9.7 | 15 mm | Coldest. Clear, quiet |
| February | 8.9 / -1.6 | 6.4 / -6.5 | 4.0 / -9.7 | 17 mm | Same as January |
| March | 13.3 / 2.6 | 9.6 / -3.0 | 8.0 / -6.1 | 45 mm | Warming. Good from mid month |
| April | 16.6 / 5.7 | 12.8 / 0.8 | 12.1 / -4.0 | 59 mm | Very good. Busy |
| May | 16.7 / 8.0 | 14.3 / 3.7 | 13.8 / -1.2 | 128 mm | Warm, hazier. Start early |
| June | 17.7 / 12.3 | 15.6 / 5.9 | 14.6 / 3.2 | 325 mm | Monsoon. No |
| July | 18.4 / 13.2 | 15.8 / 7.8 | 14.1 / 4.3 | 530 mm | Monsoon. No |
| August | 18.6 / 12.9 | 16.2 / 7.5 | 14.1 / 3.5 | 642 mm | Wettest. No |
| September | 18.6 / 11.6 | 14.6 / 5.9 | 13.0 / 2.2 | 419 mm | Still wet. Wait for October |
| October | 16.8 / 7.4 | 12.5 / 1.2 | 12.0 / -1.7 | 103 mm | Best, from the second week |
| November | 13.8 / 2.4 | 9.1 / -3.8 | 8.1 / -6.9 | 6 mm | Best. Almost dry |
| December | 11.1 / -0.5 | 7.6 / -7.1 | 6.0 / -7.5 | 0.5 mm | Dry and cold |
You can see the pattern. From June to September Lukla gets about 84 per cent of its year's rain. November is almost dry at every station, which is why clear mornings in November are not luck. That is also why I like the first half of November: the rain has gone, and the nights have not yet turned hard.
For the full Base Camp version of this table, with Dingboche too, read my Everest weather month by month page. This page is about what those numbers mean on a trek that stops at 3,880 m.
Which month gives the best view from the Everest View Hotel?
The view is a morning view. Cloud builds in the valley through the day, so we walk up to the hotel early whatever the month. Clear days are most reliable in the dry weeks, late October to early December, and again in April. In May the afternoons get hazy and the rain is building (128 mm at Lukla), so I would still go, but on the first morning and not the last.
In the monsoon the mountain can sit behind cloud for days. You pay the same trek price and may see none of it. That is the main reason I tell people to avoid June to mid September. For more on the hotel itself, read The Everest View Hotel: what it is actually like.
Is the Everest View trek good in winter, December to February?
This is the angle I think most people miss. On the Base Camp trek, winter is hard. The average night at Dingboche (4,410 m) is about minus 13 in December, and most lodges at Gorak Shep close. On the Everest View trek you do not go there.
What you meet instead is Namche, where January nights average minus 8.5 and the day high is 6.9, and on the 7-day trek Tengboche, where January averages 3.7 by day and minus 9.7 at night. That is cold, but it is the kind of cold a good down jacket and a warm sleeping bag handle. Every trek of ours includes a sleeping bag and a down jacket. Days are only about ten and a half hours long, so you walk early, arrive by mid afternoon, and spend the evening round the stove in the dining room.
The gains are real. Lukla has almost no rain in December (0.5 mm), the trail is empty, and the views are clear. The downsides are also real. Paths can be icy, February and January bring more snowmelt at Namche than November does (43 mm in January against 11 mm in November), and some higher lodges shut. I cannot give you a list of which Namche or Tengboche lodges are open on which date. Your guide confirms that for your dates before you fly.
My view: December and late February are fine for a fit first-timer who likes quiet. January is for people who have been cold before and do not mind. If you want help choosing, my page on Everest Base Camp in winter covers the higher trek, and I can tell you what a week usually does if you send me dates.
How reliable are the Lukla flights in each season?
There is no published cancellation rate for Lukla by month, and I will not invent one. What I can tell you comes from our guides and operations. In October and November the weather is the most settled of the year and delays are usually short. March to May is generally good, with more afternoon cloud, so fly early. From June to September the delays are longest, sometimes several days in a row. December to February is clear but can have foggy mornings in Kathmandu.
The bigger change is the airport. In the busy seasons, most fixed-wing Lukla flights leave from Manthali (Ramechhap), not Kathmandu. A neutral operator article dated 21 August 2026 gives the Manthali months as March to May and September to November, with flights usually leaving from Kathmandu outside those months and a drive of about 4 to 5 hours. On our own pages we use about 15 March to 15 May and 25 September to 30 November, and I note those windows can shift from year to year. In those weeks you leave Kathmandu between midnight and 2 am. We include the transfer, and keep at least two spare days before your international flight.
The Luxury tier flies by helicopter between Kathmandu and Lukla both ways, which avoids the Manthali drive. Budget goes by bus or jeep to Manthali and then flies. Standard uses a shared tourist vehicle to Manthali. A helicopter waits for weather as well, so treat it as time saved, not a guarantee. If a flight is cancelled, read what happens when the Lukla flight is cancelled.
On a short trek a delay matters more. A lost morning can eat the spare day you kept before your flight home, so keep that day whichever length you choose.
Mani Rimdu at Tengboche: can you plan around it?
Mani Rimdu is the masked-dance festival of the Sherpa monasteries. Tengboche is its best-known venue, and the 7-day trek sleeps at Tengboche (3,860 m). The 5-day trek does not go there.
Here is what I can source. One festival guide lists the 2026 public days at Tengboche as 26 to 28 October. The date follows the Tibetan lunar calendar, so it moves each year, and the monastery announces it. I could not find a published date for 2027, so I will not give you one. If Mani Rimdu is the reason for your trip, message me before you buy flights, and we confirm with our team in the Khumbu. I explain the festival in Mani Rimdu on the Everest trail.
Be careful with one thing. Tengboche gets busy in festival week and beds are scarce. Do not cut your Namche rest day to arrive in time.
Festivals and holidays that move your 2027 dates
These dates are expected from public calendars and the government confirms them later, so check them again. Our 5-day page lists Gyalpo Lhosar (Sherpa New Year) as expected on 5 or 9 March 2027, Dashain around 6 to 10 October and Tihar around 29 to 31 October. Dashain closes some teahouses and fills the buses. Tihar falls in the middle of the best weeks, so book early if you want to fly then.
Getting there and real costs
Both treks start and end in Kathmandu. Kathmandu hotels are not in the trek price. The price covers airport pick-up and drop, the Lukla flights (or helicopter on Luxury), guides, porters by tier, meals on Standard and Luxury, and the three permits.
| Permit | Foreigner | SAARC |
|---|---|---|
| Sagarmatha National Park entry | NPR 3,000 | NPR 1,500 |
| Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality | NPR 3,000 | NPR 3,000 |
| TIMS card | NPR 2,000 | NPR 1,000 |
We buy all three for you and they are in the price. The park fees are on the Nepal Tourism Board park entry fees page, and the TIMS fee is on the NTB TIMS page.
On Budget you pay for your own meals. In the Everest teahouses, I tell guests to plan on about NPR 2,000 per meal with tea or coffee. Standard has one porter for every two guests (10 kg each, 20 kg being the legal limit per porter). Luxury has your own porter. Budget has no porter. Pay 10% to book and the balance in Kathmandu, in USD or EUR. A card payment on the balance carries 3.5% and cash does not.
For insurance, the highest point is 3,880 m, so make sure your policy covers trekking to at least 4,000 m. Buy it at home before you travel.
Which month costs most? Our trek price does not change with the month, so the difference is in Kathmandu hotels and international flights, which cost most in October and April. If you want to compare the two lengths, I wrote Everest View trek in 5 or 7 days, and the day-by-day plan is in the 7-day itinerary and cost.
Questions people ask
What is the best month for the Everest View trek?
Mid October to mid November. Rain is low, mornings are clear and the Lukla flights are the most settled of the year. April is the next best. It is also the busiest time, so book early.
Can I do the Everest View trek in January?
Yes, if you accept cold. Namche averages minus 8.5 at night in January and Tengboche minus 9.7, from published records. The trek never goes above 3,880 m, so it is much easier in winter than Base Camp. Paths can be icy, and I would want to check your kit and the lodges for your dates.
Is the Everest View trek possible in the monsoon?
It can be walked, but I advise against it. Lukla gets about 325 mm in June, 530 mm in July and 642 mm in August. Flights are delayed and the view is often hidden. You pay the same price for less.
Do flights go from Kathmandu or Manthali in 2027?
In the busy seasons, mostly Manthali, which means a 4 to 5 hour drive and a midnight to 2 am pick-up. Outside March to May and September to November, flights usually leave from Kathmandu. Luxury avoids the drive with a helicopter. Dates can shift, so I confirm for your week.
Which is better for winter, the 5-day or the 7-day trek?
The 5-day trek keeps you at Namche (3,440 m), which is warmer at night than Tengboche. The 7-day adds Tengboche at 3,860 m, where January nights are about minus 10. If it is your first winter trek, I would choose the 5-day.
When is Mani Rimdu in 2027?
I do not have a confirmed date. It follows the Tibetan lunar calendar and falls around October or November. It was listed for 26 to 28 October in 2026. Ask me before you book flights.
How much does it cost, and does the price change with the season?
For two to four people, USD 1,565 / 2,030 / 3,645 on the 7-day and USD 1,405 / 1,730 / 3,030 on the 5-day, per person. The trek price does not change with the month.
Do I need to be fit for the Everest View trek?
You need to be able to walk 4 to 6 hours a day. On the 5-day trek, day 2 climbs about 830 m to Namche and the last day is a long 6 to 7 hour walk down to Lukla. No climbing skills are needed.
If you tell me your dates and how many of you are going, I will tell you what that week usually does. WhatsApp me on +977 9810351300.
