Trekking in Nepal from Spain: the short answer
The 12-day Everest Base Camp trek costs USD 1,399 on Budget, USD 2,499 on Standard and USD 4,999 on Luxury per person for one to four trekkers, about EUR 1,250, EUR 2,235 and EUR 4,470. Spanish passport holders buy the visa when they land in Kathmandu. There is no nonstop flight from Madrid, and return fares on 7 October 2026 ran from EUR 1,100 to EUR 1,833. The big Spanish holiday, August, is monsoon in Nepal, so the right windows are Semana Santa, mid-October onwards and late spring. WhatsApp me on +977 9810351300 with your dates.
From the Camino to the Himalaya
Many Spanish walkers arrive here after the Camino de Santiago, so the question is how far that experience carries. Quite far, on the legs. Cruz de Ferro, the high point of the French Way, is about 1,500 metres; the Everest trail starts at Lukla, 2,860 metres, and you sleep at 5,164 metres at Gorak Shep. Mulhacén (3,479 metres) and Teide (3,715 metres) are the nearest rehearsals you have at home, and Aneto in the Pyrenees (3,404 metres) is another. The days are shorter than a Camino stage, usually five to seven hours, but the air is thin, and that changes the rhythm. You walk slowly and you stop when your guide says so.
We are a Kathmandu family company, registered in 2016, with three generations of family guides behind it. When you book with us you deal with the people who run the trek.
Treks for Spanish travellers, with live prices

| Annapurna Base Camp, 9 days | USD 499 about EUR 445 | USD 799 about EUR 715 | USD 1,400 about EUR 1,250 |
| Manaslu Circuit, 12 days | USD 799 about EUR 715 | USD 1,599 about EUR 1,430 | USD 2,099 about EUR 1,875 |
| Langtang Valley, 8 days | USD 365 about EUR 325 | USD 650 about EUR 580 | USD 1,000 about EUR 895 |
| Ghorepani Poon Hill, 6 days | USD 499 about EUR 445 | USD 749 about EUR 670 | USD 1,235 about EUR 1,105 |

| Mardi Himal from Pokhara, 5 days | USD 460 about EUR 410 | USD 770 about EUR 690 | USD 1,445 about EUR 1,290 |
Price notes, per person: Langtang Valley, 8 days: one trekker; two to four pay less (USD 320, 570 and 800); Ghorepani Poon Hill, 6 days: two to four trekkers; solo Standard is USD 960 and solo Luxury USD 1,930; Mardi Himal from Pokhara, 5 days: two to four trekkers; solo is USD 795, 1,065 and 2,400.
For Semana Santa, with a week or so of leave, Annapurna Base Camp or Poon Hill fit more easily than Everest, because they need no mountain flight and the spring flowers are out in the forest. For two full weeks in October or November, Everest Base Camp is the one most people come for. Langtang is the quiet valley north of Kathmandu, reached by a long day on the road, and Manaslu is for people who want a high pass and few other trekkers. The five-day Mardi Himal from Pokhara is the short option if a week is all you have.
Three tiers, one route. Budget is the lean version, with your own bag, shared rooms and meals you buy. Standard includes every meal, a private room and a porter for each pair of trekkers. Luxury adds a porter for you alone, deluxe private rooms and, on Everest, helicopter flights to and from Lukla. One detail for solo trekkers: Standard has no porter when you travel alone, and the guide carries up to 10 kg. Kathmandu hotels are quoted on top. Our homestay costs USD 15 per person per night.
When to go, with Spanish dates
Spain takes its holidays in August, and June to mid-September is the Nepal monsoon, with heavy cloud and mountain flights that often do not leave. So the windows are different from the ones you are used to. Holy Thursday 2027 is 25 March, Good Friday 26 March and Easter Sunday 28 March, which opens a spring trek in the late March and April season. In autumn, a trek from mid-October runs into the clearest weeks; the 12 October holiday weekend is an obvious place to start. The December bridge around the 6th and 8th is cold at altitude. The Estatuto de los Trabajadores gives you at least 30 calendar days of leave a year, enough for a trek if your employer agrees the dates.
In Nepal, Dashain runs 17 to 23 October and Tihar 8 to 12 November 2026, when offices close and permits take 48 hours of working days. Nepal is 3 hours 45 minutes ahead of Madrid until the clocks go back on 25 October 2026, and 4 hours 45 minutes after that. A month-by-month guide is in best time for Everest Base Camp. The 2027 dates are set by the lunar calendar, so ask me before you fix flights for an autumn 2027 trip.
Visado: you buy it at the airport
You buy it on arrival at Tribhuvan Airport, with no advance application. Choose 15 days at USD 30, 30 days at USD 50 (about EUR 45) or 90 days at USD 125, always paid in US dollars. You can complete the online form beforehand. Bring one photo and a passport with six months of validity. Spain is not one of the twelve nationalities that must apply before flying. More in the visa on arrival guide.
Flights from Madrid
The fares are for economy with a checked bag, leaving Sunday 25 October 2026 and returning Wednesday 11 November, with no more than one stop each way. The cheapest, EUR 1,100, was Sichuan Airlines out via Chengdu and Qatar Airways home via Doha: about 18 hours 40 minutes out and 15 hours 45 minutes back. Qatar both ways was EUR 1,357, with a long wait in Doha on the way out. Emirates out and Qatar home ran EUR 1,545 to EUR 1,705. The top of the range was EUR 1,833. A connection in China means checking China's transit rules for your passport before you buy. Only Madrid was priced, so Barcelona and Valencia travellers should search their own airport. The fare table and the total for one traveller are in the Everest Base Camp cost guide for Spain.
Seguro de viaje
The Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea gives you nothing in Nepal and will never pay for a helicopter. Buy a travel policy in Spain before you leave. Read the conditions for trekking to 6,000 metres (Kala Patthar is 5,545 metres), helicopter rescue, illness and not only accident, and repatriation. If you hold a mountain federation licence, ask whether it extends to Nepal at that height. I will read the wording if you send it. See helicopter cover to 6,000 metres.
Language and the trail day
Everything on the trek runs in English, and Shradha, below, works in English as well. A trail day starts early and finishes early. Lunch is usually around noon and dinner at six or seven in the evening, which feels very early after Spanish hours, and you will be asleep by nine. The guide who works with you is licensed; Nepal requires one on most routes and we send one on every trek.
Paying us from Spain
Ten per cent secures the trek. Pay the rest when you arrive in Kathmandu, in dollars or euros, by cash (free) or card (3.5 per cent extra). We do not accept Nepali rupees. You can reschedule at no charge to any date within a year, provided we hear from you 72 hours ahead, or seven days ahead for restricted areas. If you cancel instead, the deposit stays with us and there is no refund. If we cancel, we return your payments minus taxes, bank and card charges and anything already spent on permits or flights.
Who to contact in Europe
Our Europe representative, Shradha Simkhada, lives in Finland, which is one hour ahead of Spain. You can call or message her on +358 45 353 8606, including on WhatsApp. She handles European enquiries in English and can answer the first round of questions before they reach me in Kathmandu.
Spain has no full embassy in Nepal. The Embassy of Spain in New Delhi covers Nepal, and there is an honorary consulate in Kathmandu at Dwarika's Village Hotel, Battisputali.

Frequently asked questions
Do Spaniards need a visa for Nepal?
Yes, but you buy it when you land at Kathmandu airport. It costs USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days or USD 125 for 90 days. No advance application is needed.
How much does the Everest Base Camp trek cost from Spain?
The trek is USD 1,399, 2,499 or 4,999 per person by tier, about EUR 1,250, EUR 2,235 and EUR 4,470. Add flights, insurance, tips and hotel nights. The Spain cost guide has the full sum.
Is there a direct flight from Madrid to Kathmandu?
No. On 7 October 2026 every ticket connected, through Chengdu, Doha, Dubai or Istanbul, and the cheapest took about 18 hours 40 minutes outbound.
Can I go in August, when Spain is on holiday?
August is monsoon in Nepal, so the high treks are wet and flights are unreliable. Semana Santa, October and late spring are better for the mountains.
Is the Camino good training for Everest Base Camp?
It builds endurance for long walking days. It does not train altitude, so rely on the acclimatisation days in the plan and walk slowly. Back-to-back weekend hikes with a loaded pack help more.
Does my Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea cover me in Nepal?
No. It is valid in Europe only. You need a private travel policy with cover to 6,000 metres and helicopter evacuation.
Which trek is best for Semana Santa?
Annapurna Base Camp or Poon Hill, because there is no mountain flight to miss and the forest is in flower. Everest needs more days in hand.
Is there a Spanish embassy in Kathmandu?
There is an honorary consulate at Dwarika's Village Hotel. The embassy that covers Nepal is the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi.
Can I trek alone, and is a guide compulsory?
You can book a private departure for one. A licensed guide is required on most routes, and we send one on every trek, with an option to join a fixed group departure instead.
How do I pay, and what if I have to cancel?
Ten per cent holds your date. Plans change? You can move to any date within a year free of charge with 72 hours notice. The deposit itself is not refunded if you cancel.
