Nepal Trekking from France: EUR Prices, Flights & Guide

Trekking in Nepal from France: the short answer

Why spring 2027 is the date to look at

French holidays make spring easy to use. In 2027 Easter Monday falls on 29 March, Ascension on Thursday 6 May and Whit Monday on 17 May, which helps a trek that starts in early April. April and May bring rhododendrons on the lower slopes and warmer days; October and November, after the monsoon, give the clearest air. In 2027 Nepal's festivals come earlier than this year, with Dashain expected around 6 to 10 October and Tihar around 29 to 31 October, so the first half of November is a calm window for an autumn trek. The dates are expected ones, and the government confirms them each year. Details are in the festival calendar.

Nepal is 3 hours 45 minutes ahead of Paris in summer time and 4 hours 45 minutes ahead in winter, so jet lag is mild. The Alps give you a head start on fitness, though not on altitude: Mont Blanc is 4,805 metres, and the highest night on the Everest route, at Gorak Shep, is 5,164.

Treks for French travellers, with live prices

Per person. You pay us in US dollars or euros; the euro figures are a guide and will have moved by the time you pay.

Price notes: Langtang is shown at the one-trekker price, and two to four trekkers pay USD 320, 570 and 800; Poon Hill (6 days) is priced for two to four trekkers; a solo trekker pays USD 960 on Standard and USD 1,930 on Luxury.

For a first Himalayan trek, Annapurna Base Camp reaches 4,130 metres without a mountain flight, and Poon Hill peaks at 3,210 metres and fits a week. Everest Base Camp needs 12 days on the trail and a day either side. Langtang and Mardi Himal are quieter. Manaslu is a restricted-area circuit with a pass at 5,160 metres, so a licensed guide and an agency permit are compulsory.

How the three tiers differ: Budget has you carrying your own pack, sleeping in shared rooms and buying your meals. Standard puts meals in the price, gives you a private room and one porter for every two trekkers. Luxury gives you a porter of your own, a deluxe room with its own bathroom and, on Everest, a helicopter to Lukla and back in place of the small plane. Alone on Standard there is no porter, and the guide carries up to 10 kg for you. Kathmandu hotels sit outside every tier; our family homestay is USD 15 per person per night. A down jacket, a sleeping bag and a duffel are lent free.

Flights from Paris

I priced one adult in economy with a checked bag, leaving Charles de Gaulle on Sunday 18 April 2027 and returning on Wednesday 5 May, as a single ticket with no more than one change each way. There were 15 itineraries from EUR 833 to EUR 1,244, none nonstop. The cheapest, EUR 833, was SriLankan Airlines via Colombo out (leaving at 15:05, in Kathmandu at 12:15 the next day) and Air India via Delhi home. Turkish Airlines via Istanbul out, then Air India home, was EUR 1,011; Thai Airways via Bangkok was EUR 1,042; Emirates via Dubai started at EUR 1,142. The quickest combination, about 28 hours 30 minutes in total, was Turkish Airlines out with the 06:30 Air India return, at EUR 1,244. Prices and routes change daily, so check the airlines before you buy, and land in Kathmandu a full day before any Lukla flight. Visa for a French passport

France is not one of the twelve nationalities that must apply before travelling. You choose between 15 days at USD 30, 30 days at USD 50 (about EUR 45) and 90 days at USD 125, all in dollars. Bring one photo and a passport valid for six months, and fill in the online arrival form first to save time. See the visa on arrival guide and the e-visa guide.

Insurance from France

The carte Vitale and the carte européenne d'assurance maladie do nothing in Nepal, and the second is valid in Europe only. Buy a travel policy before you fly, and read the wording rather than the summary. It should name trekking to 6,000 metres, because Kala Patthar is 5,545, and it should pay for a helicopter out; paid privately that costs USD 3,000 to USD 5,000, or EUR 2,675 to EUR 4,460. It must also cover illness, since altitude sickness is an illness. Some bank-card insurance stops at a stated altitude, so ask the issuer in writing before you rely on it. What France Diplomatie says, and who to call

The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs advises reinforced vigilance for French nationals in Nepal. Its page, updated on 29 September 2026, warns that the monsoon, from June to October, brings floods and landslides that can cut roads and communications for days, and it carries a health alert on measles dated 13 March 2026. The Embassy of France is in Kathmandu, and its contact page is on np.diplomatie.gouv.fr. Read the Conseils aux voyageurs page for Nepal again just before you leave, because it changes.

Language, food and the guide

Treks run in English. Some of our guides speak a little French, but I cannot promise a French-speaking guide, so ask early and I will tell you plainly who is available for your dates. A version of this guide in French is here. Dal bhat is the staple and vegetarians eat well; tell me about any allergy in writing before you fly. Nepal requires a licensed guide on most routes, and we send one on every trek.

Paying us from France

Booking takes a 10 per cent deposit, nothing more, and the other 90 per cent is paid when you reach Kathmandu. Pay in US dollars or euros; cash carries no fee and a card carries 3.5 per cent. Nepali rupees cannot be taken. You can have a free move to another date, anywhere in the next year, if you write at least 72 hours ahead (seven days for restricted areas). If you cancel instead, the deposit is not returned and no refund is made. Should we be the ones who cancel, we send back what you paid, less taxes, bank and card charges and what we have already spent on permits or flights.

The deposit goes through our bank's secure payment page. Use a Visa or Mastercard, which includes a French Carte Bleue co-badged with either, and approve the one-time step in your banking app, or the payment will simply fail.

Check us before you pay

Do not take my word for it; look us up. We are registered in Kathmandu (company registrar), a member of TAAN (number 1586), licensed for tourism and certified for foreign exchange, and all four can be checked by anyone. Licences do not make a company honest, since licensed operators have been involved in scams, so I would ask you to speak to me on a video call before you send money. Frequently asked questions

Do French citizens need a visa for Nepal?

Yes. The visa is bought on arrival in Kathmandu: USD 30 gets 15 days, USD 50 gets 30 days and USD 125 gets 90 days. A photo and a passport with six months left are required.

How much does Everest Base Camp cost from France?

The trek is USD 1,399, 2,499 or 4,999 per person by tier, about EUR 1,250, EUR 2,230 and EUR 4,460. A Paris return in my April 2027 search was EUR 833 to EUR 1,244, and insurance, tips and Kathmandu hotels come on top.

Is there a direct flight from Paris to Kathmandu?

No. All 15 itineraries in my search had one change each way, through Colombo, Istanbul, Bangkok, Dubai or Delhi.

Does the carte Vitale or the European health card cover me in Nepal?

No. The European card is valid in Europe only. Buy a private travel policy with trekking cover to 6,000 metres and helicopter evacuation.

When is the best time to go from France?

Early April to May, using the Easter and May bank holidays, or October and November. In 2027 Dashain is expected around 6 to 10 October and Tihar around 29 to 31 October.

How many days off do I need?

About 16 days door to door: 12 on the trek, a night or two in Kathmandu at each end and the flights. Add a spare day in case the Lukla flight is delayed by weather.

Do your guides speak French?

Some have a little, but I cannot promise it. Tell me early and I will answer honestly for your dates.

Can I pay in euros?

Yes, in cash or by card in Kathmandu, but not in Nepali rupees. A card adds 3.5 per cent and cash adds nothing.

Is Mont Blanc good training?

It shows how you cope at 4,800 metres. The Everest trek asks for 12 days of steady walking at a slow pace, so long days with a loaded pack in the Alps are good preparation.

Can I trek alone?

Yes. Travelling alone, you can book a private departure for yourself or opt into a fixed group date, and a licensed guide is with you either way.
