Everest Base Camp Trek Cost From the Netherlands: The Real All-In Numbers in Euros for 2027

The highest point on the Dutch mainland, the Vaalserberg, is about 322 metres. Everest Base Camp is 5,364 metres. A Dutch trekker cannot rehearse altitude at home, so the sensible questions are how to prepare and what the whole thing costs.

The Everest Holiday became a registered company in 2016, but the guiding is older: three generations of our family. The 12-day trek costs US$1,399, US$2,785 or US$4,999 per person on Budget, Standard or Luxury (groups of one to four), about EUR 1,240, EUR 2,220 and EUR 4,440, unchanged for 2027. With flights from Schiphol, a visa, insurance and tips, one traveller pays about EUR 2,900 to EUR 3,700 on Budget, EUR 3,730 to EUR 4,430 on Standard travelling alone and EUR 6,050 to EUR 6,800 on Luxury.

The Dutch budget in one table

Per person: the flight column spans the lowest and highest Schiphol fare, and the next column rolls up the 30-day visa, insurance, tips and either trail meals (Budget) or spending money (Standard and Luxury). Kathmandu hotels are quoted separately in every tier; our own family homestay is US$15 per person per night, about EUR 10.

On Budget you pay for meals on the trail, US$25 to US$40 a day (US$300 to US$480 for 12 days). Standard and Luxury include meals, and NPR 20,000 to 30,000 (US$130 to US$195) pays for showers, charging and snacks. Bring rupees from Kathmandu; the only ATMs, in Namche, are often empty.

Schiphol to Kathmandu: the cheap way runs through India

A nonstop does not exist on this route. My test: economy, one hold bag, outbound Sunday 25 October 2026, return Wednesday 11 November, a maximum of one stop each way.

The lowest fare, EUR 1,147, was IndiGo out via Mumbai and Air India home via Delhi. You leave Amsterdam at 14:15 and land in Kathmandu at 13:45 the next day, about 18 hours 45 minutes, and the way home takes 15 hours 45 minutes. IndiGo out with Qatar Airways home via Doha was EUR 1,204, and IndiGo out with Emirates home via Dubai was EUR 1,311 to EUR 1,409. Qatar Airways out via Doha, leaving at 21:50 and landing at 14:35, took only 12 hours; with Air India home it cost EUR 1,410. Air India out via Delhi with a Qatar return started at EUR 1,577, and Emirates out with Air India home was EUR 1,618.

The range was EUR 1,147 to EUR 1,618. Against the 12-hour Qatar routing at EUR 1,410, the cheapest ticket saves EUR 263 and costs about 6 hours 45 minutes more on the way out, so decide what your leave is worth. I priced Amsterdam only; Eindhoven and Brussels travellers should search their own airport.

Visa, sorted on arrival

Dutch passport holders pick up a tourist visa on arrival in Kathmandu: US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days (about EUR 40) and US$125 for 90, per the Department of Immigration, in dollars. You can do the online form beforehand. Six months of passport validity is the usual rule, and you bring one photo. The Netherlands is not among the 12 nationalities that need a visa in advance. Reisverzekering: the cover a Dutch trekker needs

Your Dutch health insurance is not a travel policy, and it will not pay for a helicopter in the Khumbu. Take out a reisverzekering in the Netherlands before you fly, and not in Nepal.

A continuous annual policy is cheap and common here, and also the kind that often caps trekking at 3,000 or 4,000 metres or excludes it. Look in the conditions for trekking to 6,000 metres (Kala Patthar is 5,545 m), helicopter rescue, cover for illness, and repatriation. A short-term policy with an adventure extension may fit better. Evacuation from Base Camp to Kathmandu costs US$3,000 to US$5,000, about EUR 2,650 to EUR 4,450. Basic trekking cover is typically US$50 to US$100 for two to three weeks, full cover US$100 to US$180. What you get for the money

Budget: carry your own bag, shared rooms, meals not included, fixed-wing to Lukla. Standard: meals, private rooms, one porter for two. Luxury: your own porter, deluxe ensuite rooms, fruit, nuts and soft drinks, a helicopter to Lukla and back. A licensed guide, permits (NPR 3,000 + 3,000 + 2,000), transfers and a loaned down jacket and minus 15 sleeping bag go with every tier. Alone on Standard the guide carries up to 10 kg because there is no porter. No single supplement on Standard or Luxury. On Budget, a solo Everest Base Camp trekker pays US$2,275 instead of US$1,399. Is it hard, and how do you prepare?

There is no hill in the Netherlands to practise on, so train for walking hours instead: back-to-back days of five to seven hours with a daypack, in the Limburg hills if you can get there. We grade the trek strenuous, and the two acclimatisation days matter more than any training plan. Read how fit you need to be.

Budget costs EUR 1,240 each for one to four people, EUR 1,150 for five to eight, EUR 1,060 for nine to twelve and EUR 890 for thirteen to twenty. Standard costs EUR 2,220 each for one to four people, EUR 2,170 for five to eight, EUR 2,130 for nine to twelve and EUR 2,080 for thirteen to twenty. Luxury costs EUR 4,440 each for one to four people, EUR 4,390 for five to eight, EUR 4,350 for nine to twelve and EUR 4,300 for thirteen to twenty.

Only group size moves the price per person, whether the trip is private or shared.

Dutch school holidays and public days

The 2026 autumn break runs 10 to 18 October in the north and 17 to 25 October in the middle and south, so it ends just as the best weather begins. The May break in 2027 is 24 April to 2 May in every region, and official advice lets schools extend it to 9 May. King's Day is Tuesday 27 April, Liberation Day Wednesday 5 May, Ascension Thursday 6 May and Whit Monday 17 May. Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Monday 29 March. April and May are spring season, with rhododendrons and warmer days. Do not plan a summer trek, because June to mid-September is the monsoon.

In Nepal, Dashain is 17 to 23 October and Tihar 8 to 12 November 2026, when offices close; permits need 48 hours in government working days. From 25 October, Nepal is 4 hours 45 minutes ahead of the Netherlands, and 3 hours 45 minutes before that. In the busy windows, about 15 March to 15 May and 25 September to 30 November, fixed-wing flights leave from Manthali, four to five hours by road with a pick-up between midnight and 2 am.

How to pay

A 10 per cent deposit holds the date. The rest is settled in Kathmandu in US dollars or euros, cash or card; cash is free of charge and cards cost 3.5 per cent. Nepali rupees are not accepted from foreign clients. We move you free to any date within a year (72 hours notice, or seven days for Tibet, Kailash and restricted areas). If you cancel instead, the deposit and anything else you have paid are not refunded. If we are unable to run the trip, you receive back what you paid less taxes, card or bank charges and costs already incurred.

No Dutch embassy in Kathmandu

The Netherlands has no embassy in Nepal. The Dutch embassy in New Delhi tells you who to contact, and the foreign ministry runs a 24-hour line on +31 247 247 247. Save it before you fly.
