Shamjhana (Sam) Basukala is the Manager of The Everest Holiday and a licensed trekking guide since 2016. Born and raised in Bhaktapur, she started guiding visitors through the ancient city while still in school and never stopped.
She studied Tourism Management at Nepal College of Travel and Tourism Management and has spent over a decade in the Nepal travel industry, from airline ticketing to guiding international cycling groups across the country.
Outside of trekking, Sam is a committed community builder. She co-founded the Warm Up Nepal Project (2016-2022), distributing clothing to remote villages, and the Nagarjun Learning Centre in Dhading, providing free education to rural children. She served three years as President of Leo Club Bhaktapur Araniko, leading youth service projects across the Kathmandu Valley.
When she is not organising treks or running the office, you will find her volunteering at local schools in Bhaktapur or planning the next community project. She writes from a perspective that most Nepal trekking blogs lack - as a Nepali woman who has walked the trails, lived the culture, and built the business from the ground up.
