5 Days Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour Overview

This trip is the best way to explore the Everest Base Camp with a helicopter tour, a unique and high-altitude trekking adventure that merges luxury with adventure. This is a unique tour for adventure lovers with time constraints. With proper guided arrangements and stunning views of Everest and the Khumbu Himalayas, you can reach the Everest base camp in five days.

A journey starts with a memorable flight from Kathmandu or Ramechap, Manthali Airport, to Lukla. From Lukla, you will join the trek to Everest base camp. Upon arrival in Lukla, we will take a short break to observe the surrounding market before slowly hiking up to Phakding, which is a Sherpa town that leads to Namche Bazaar. Namche serves as both an acclimatization and adventure stop and is a cultural marvel packed with Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, and lush terraced farmlands.

The best part of the trek is the helicopter ride to the Everest base camp or Kala Patthar, which will give you close views of the ever-magical Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and, of course, Khumbu Icefall. This helicopter ride gives panoramic views, which many trekkers take weeks to see.
Following your helicopter return to Lukla, you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking mountain views one last time.

REMINDER

For a smooth and stress-free start, we highly recommend arriving in Kathmandu by 4 PM the day before we leave. This gives you enough time for a final gear check, a trip briefing with your guide, and to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the trek.

ONLINE TRIP BRIEFING

This is like our first coffee before the trip, but online!  This online meeting is our chance to show you everything that will happen on the trip.  We'll discuss the gear to bring, what each day on the route will be like, and answer any questions you have.  After you book, we'll send you an email with a couple of times when we can talk. We'll set up the meeting after the booking process is completed. Also, our trek itinerary does not include your hotel stay in Kathmandu. During the online meeting, please share your preferences, budget, and the standard of the hotel you would like to stay at in Kathmandu. We will arrange it for you accordingly.

LUKLA FLIGHT INFORMATION

It's a good idea to add two days to your travel arrangements to make sure your return trip goes smoothly. The weather in the mountains can sometimes be unpredictable, which makes the Lukla flight so beautiful. This extra time gives you a comfortable buffer against any delays, which protects your international flight connection.

Most flights to Lukla go from Kathmandu, but during popular seasons they go through Manthali (Ramechhap) Airport. The popular trekking times are spring (March-May) and fall (October-November). Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority follows this regular approach to cut down on heavy aviation traffic at Kathmandu's only international runway. This helps make flight schedules for the Everest region safer and more reliable.

From Kathmandu to Manthali, your adventure will begin with a four- to six-hour drive. Pickup takes place around midnight (12 a.m.–1 a.m.) to connect you with the short 20-minute flight to Lukla. For your return, you’ll retrace the same steps, flying to Manthali and driving back to Kathmandu. Rest assured, all ground transportation is provided.

Note to Hikers

Experience the Himalayas on your terms. We create personal, intimate treks for groups of two or more. Whether you select our Budget, Standard, or Luxury package, your adventure will be exclusively for you and your companions, ensuring a comfortable and personal journey from start to finish.

Day 01:

Your flight to Lukla will leave from either Kathmandu or Manthali, depending on the time of year. Aircraft from Kathmandu may be diverted to Manthali Airport in March, April, May, September, October, and November. In that case, we would drive you to Manthali for five hours after picking you up at your hotel at 12:30 AM. We'll fly you to Lukla for 20 minutes.

You may normally travel straight from Kathmandu to Lukla in December, January, February, June, July, and August. We'll take you to Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu International airport) after breakfast; from there, you'll fly to Lukla for half an hour in Tenzing-Hillary Airport.

When you get to Lukla, you'll trek a short distance to Phakding. The day's hike is short to let people get used to the weather. You can go to Rimishung Monastery and other local monasteries in your leisure time, as well as shopping in Phakding.

We'll cross several suspension bridges, which are often covered in prayer flags, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. You have an option to also do a bungee jump or swing at the highest altitude in the Hillary suspension bridges overlooking the majestic Himalayas. Along the way, you will pass Monjo Village before entering Sagarmatha National Park.

After registering our permits at Sagarmatha National Park, we trek through a dense forest and enjoy our first views of Mount Everest. We next proceed to Namche Bazaar via stone footpaths and wooded walkways. With beautiful scenery and a welcoming atmosphere, Namche Bazaar is a great place to rest and relax.

Don’t miss Khumjung Monastery, which is said to house a Yeti scalp. You may trek up to the Everest View Hotel for additional views of Mount Everest.

Day 04:

After spending a splendid day in Namche, yet another adventurous day begins. Pack all your belongings and wear warm clothes. This is the day you've been waiting for: a helicopter ride over the highest mountains in the World. You will take a personal helicopter ride to Everest Base Camp following breakfast in Namche. As the helicopter lifts off, the landscape quickly transforms—terraced villages give way to alpine ridges, deep valleys, and snow-draped peaks.

The first view of Ama Dablam (6,812 m/22,349 ft), Thamserku (6,608m/21,680ft), Kantega (6,782m/22,251ft), Lhotse (8,516 m/27,940 ft), and Nuptse (7,861m/25,791ft) comes into light. However, you will have the best panoramic view of Mt. Everest (Mt. Sagaramatha), which is the highest mountain in the world. Depending on weather and air traffic, the helicopter will briefly land at either Everest Base Camp (5,360m) or Kala Patthar (5,555m) — both incredible vantage points surrounded by glaciers, rugged icefalls, and majestic peaks.

To begin your journey around the tallest mountain, you will be dropped off at the Everest Base Camp for fifteen minutes. The top of Mt. Everest is not seen from its base camp. Even though it is frigid here, you are mesmerized by the gorgeous view of the snow-capped mountains. The helicopter will return you to Lukla.

In the months of December, January, February, June, July, and August, you may take a direct flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Our ground transfer will meet you upon landing at your destination, either Kathmandu or Manthali. After landing in Manthali, a leisurely 4–5-hour drive through picturesque countryside will return you to Kathmandu.

We hope you have a memorable moment during the trek, and in Kathmandu, your trek ends. After that, you can spend your time as you like.

Water

You can buy bottled water from shops along the trekking route or drink boiled or filtered water provided at the lodges. Travel Essentials

Visa

Foreigners require a visa to enter Nepal, but Indians don't. Most people can get a visa when they arrive at Kathmandu International Airport. The current fee is USD 50 for 30 days, payable in cash. Citizens of China and SAARC countries receive a free visa. Also, we recommend you to inform your country embassy or consulate of your visit to Nepal and your travel partner here.

Travel insurance

Having comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for this trek. Your policy must cover medical expenses and emergency helicopter rescue up to an altitude of 5,500 meters. Before the trek begins, you will need to provide us with a copy of your insurance policy.

Currency Exchange

The Nepali Rupee (NPR) is the country's official currency; one US dollar is equivalent to around 130 NPR. In Kathmandu, you may find banks and approved money exchange centers where you can exchange major foreign currencies. ATMs are widely available to withdraw NPR, but extra service fees may apply. Make sure your notes are new and undamaged, as old or torn bills may be refused. Only the 100 INR note from India is legally accepted in Nepal. In Lukla and Namche Bazaar there are ATMs where you can exchange money, but no guarantee. Before traveling to trekking regions, it's best to exchange money in Kathmandu, as there are few exchange options in remote areas.

Extra Expense

While our package covers most of your expenses during the trek, you will need to budget for some personal items like meals and accommodation in Kathmandu, visa fees, snacks, hot showers, personal equipment, tips for the crew, etc. we recommend that you budget approximately $20 USD per day for these personal expenses during the trek.

Typical day

We’ll start each morning with an early breakfast. The day’s trek is usually split into two parts: a 3–4 hour trek, followed by a one-hour lunch break, and then a shorter trek in the afternoon. Dinner is served around 7:00 p.m., and our guide will brief you on the plan for the next day. The rest of the evening is yours to relax, explore the village, or enjoy some downtime with your fellow trekkers. You'll take a scenic helicopter flight from Namche Bazaar to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar; you can take photos and sightsee, and you'll return by helicopter to Lukla.

We take care of their insurance, food, housing, and medical needs when they need them. Please treat our workers like family, and don't hesitate to ask for help or have questions at any time.

Trip conclusion

Farewell Dinner

We will celebrate your successful trek with a goodbye supper in Kathmandu after the trek. This is a great opportunity to share stories from your adventure and provide us with your feedback. We will also present you with a certificate of achievement to recognize your incredible accomplishment.

Departure

To arrange your airport transfer, please let us know your hotel name, room number, and flight departure details. We will take you from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport so you may catch your trip home. We sincerely hope you had an amazing journey and hope to see you again soon for another trip in Nepal.

Tipping culture

A common way to say thank you for good service is to give a tip. You don't have to provide tips, but it's a good idea to do so at the end of the trek, and it's ideal to give them as a collective gift. The tip should be based on the service, travel time, and cost.
