Unexpected experience during Annapurna circuit trek with Tilicho Lake

It's been 5 year since I've worked as a trekking licensed guide in The Everest Holiday, and my clients called me Arjun Dura. Before working as trekking guide, I was a computer operator. But I was not happy staying inside office. So I changed to work in the trekking field, starting my career from porter to a licensed guide. I learned the whole training of route and path, managing different situations and got my license.

There was an unforgettable experience when I worked in The Everest Holiday. I received a job to guide 3 Hong Kong guys to the Annapurna Circuit Trek for 14 days.

On the first day, we started our trip by taking local vehicles from Kathmandu to Lamjung, which was the starting point of the trek, also my birthplace. During the trek, we visited great waterfall, green trees and beautiful view from the top of the hills. We travelled mountains from Mt. Lamjung, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Tilicho. We captured many pictures, tasting apples of Manang and natural healthy food over here. From Manang main village, there were two paths to choose, Tilicho lake or the Thorongla pass. We took path towards Tilicho base camp and rest.

On day 8, we started our trek early in the morning at 4:30 after having breakfast. My guests were so happy seeing the view of sun rise near to the lake side and the view of mountain at the same time. We soon reached Tilicho Lake at the height of 4919m height and enjoyed the view with a nice cup of black coffee.

However, one of my guests start facing high altitude problem. So we started going back to the base camp carefully. Meanwhile, another guest who had just done leg operation before the trek, also fall down in the ice area. We all get down slowly and safely to the Tilicho Base Camp to rest. However, I realized my guests still having difficulty. One of them cannot get upward side because of high altitude problem, yet another of them could not go down slope easily due to poor leg problem. It was so difficult situation but I have to make decision quickly to help my guests.

After having lunch, I decided to ride a horse to the next village Shreekhakra, which was on the path of Tilicho base camp. We did one more day rest and enjoy the Seabuckthorn Juice, which was my guests' favourite during the trek.

Day 10, we took trek to Yak kharka 4050m. I checked again both of their health. My guest Mike could go little bit upward, but my another guest, Ron could not walk down nicely. At last, we start to get down to Manang main village (3500m) and luckily we could find vehicles to take. We all got down slowly by vehicles and enjoyed many beautiful views. I was so happy that we were all safe and happy.
